How do you pronounce "Leeke" and other company/sculpt names?

I always said "I just bought a Leak-world wig". . . . :l But that's not it, hehe. . . I feel so stupid right now xD

 

I've been saying (and thinking) it wrong all along, going with the vegetable pronounciation. We have a bagel place near us, which has been around since forever, and it's spelled Kupel's. We've pronounced it Koo-puls all my life, and recently learned that it's actually pronounced Cup-els. We've decided we just can't get our brains around the change and will continue to say Koo-puls - along with everyone else who says it wrong! I think Leeke is going to suffer the same fate, although I'll try!

 

Like many others, I've been pronouncing it "leek" in my head. I can only imagine how many other BJD related company and doll names I mispronounce. Honestly, I'll probably just continue to mispronounce it. No point in putting too much effort into correct pronunciation, unless I'm actually speaking aloud to fellow BJD enthusiasts.

 

I've been wondering how others do. It's weird for me to say a doll company out loud.. no reason why that is. I pronounce it as 'loots' in my head.

How do you say it?

I don't know if its correct, but I pronounce it "Luuts.'

Maybe we should start a thread for pronounciations. I've heard Iplehouse pronounced "IPPlehouse," rhyming with "nipple" and EYEplehouse, for example.

im with ryuichi on the pronounciation of Luts, to me Luts said the other way is Lutz, which is a city here in FL lol

and Iplehouse is Eyeplehouse to me

 

Wow, I never really thought about it. 8D Guess its worth noting I've been pronouncing (to myself) Luts as if it would rhyme with 'butts' or 'guts'. xDDD;;

Now my question. How do you say soom? Is it like soam that is sortof how I say it. Or is is soom like somber?

 

Lol, I'm from Tampa and that's always what I think when I here it. But out of habit, because of the city, I pronounce it like Lutz.

In my mind I always say it like "loots". I used to say it out loud like that too, but someone corrected me saying that you pronounce it more like "Lust"...cept the "s" and "t" switched places.... To me "loots" sounded better .

I pronounce Ipplehouse, "Eyeplehouse" too.

 

Oh now I feel like a doofus for always saying everything the most phonetic way possible ._. I've always said Luts rhyming with cuts (but I knew in the back of my mind that many people say it "Lutes/Loots", and that was probably the right way). I've never had to say Iplehouse out loud, so i don't know on that one... how I pronounce it in my head tends to change between the two ways...

...seriously? "Soam" and "Som"? I've always just said it like it's spelt, with a long 'o'... rhyming with doom, heh... oh no I hope I haven't been saying their name wrong the whole time DX

That's how I've always pronounced Soom in my head too. xDDD;;; Soom like 'doom'. Probably wrong, but hey, at least I've never had to say it aloud.... proclaiming my ignorance...

 

I also pronounce Luts like "Luh-ts". But I think it probably it should be "loots". Maybe someone should ask on the Q&A board

Soom = rhymes with "zoom"
Iplehouse = "eye"plehouse, though I think the proper way is "ee"plehouse
Leekeworld = "lee-kay"world
Bobobie = "Bob Obie", though I know for sure it's "bo bo bee"
