1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you protect your Dolls from pets?

Jan 9, 2015

    1. Luckily we don't have cats. The dogs aren't allowed in the room though. I saw one of my brand new fur wigs on the floor in prime chewing area, but luckily it was unharmed. Last time I bring the doll stuff out of the bedroom >.>

    2. Hmmm. Cats are curious creatures, if you talk about them in their presence, they will give you a baleful stare, and promptly raise a leg and wash their bottom. Cats will avoid someone who calls "kitty, kitty", and make a nuisance of themselves by rubbing up against a person they sense does not like them. They will insist that that person also pet them. There are a number of things you can do. The idea of citrus and other repellents is a good one, also a case for the dolls. I have a 'scat mat' that is battery run, helpful in keeping pets off furniture, or away from doorways. It won't hurt them, I tried it on myself first. You can make nuisance of yourself with the cat, grabbing her often for a while to pet her, cuddle her. Get the kitty some toys, a scratching post. Punishing the cat won't work, she won't associate the punishment with the deed. Indeed, hitting pets as punishment does not work, is cruel. She sounds like she wants a new pet parent, you, as your roommate is not good to her. I think you have been adopted and the cat is getting your attention even if it is negative attention. She gets it from you when she bothers certain things of yours.

I am not much impressed with your roommate, as she shows you disrespect by dismissing your distress of possible damage to your possessions. You might want a new roommate. The price of your dolls is immaterial, they have value to you. Is roommate jealous?

As this post is a year old, how was the problem solved?

    3. I might have missed it but it is important for your pets to have toys of their own. These toys should not look like anything you deem important. So don't give a dog a shoe to play with unless you don't care about your $100 shoes being chewed on. Or for this forum don't give him any dolls to play with.

Also make time to play with your pet with pet toys. This is so they associate what is ok to mess with.

For cats giving them a cat tree or climber is a good idea. Then they have something to climb on other than your doll shelf.

    4. I so agree! You said it right! Don't put temptation in front of a pet. If you value it, put it out of reach. I did not think of this at first, but a lot of doll products might be unsafe for a pet to be able to get in to.

    5. Never let them in the room. Always keep the door closed. Right now all but my Shiro are in doll boxes.

I'm sorry about your doll. You could try looking in the mods posts for suggestions in fixing the chew marks.

    6. Our dolls are actually sitting out pretty low to the ground every day. They rest right near our snake tank, and although our three cats go in there frequently to stare at the snakes, they never touch the dolls. There was a time when Pandy brought home her first doll, Bei Lie, and we caught our cat Mochi snatching off Bei Lie's fluffy wig and running off with it to chew on it. Poor Bei Lie. But after a firm shouting and chastising, Mochi hasn't touched the wigs since. I think he knows better. Cats are intelligent enough to be trained when they are young. Mochi is still pretty young, so he's still learning what he can and can't do.

We've had our dolls in the same poses for about a week now, in the same place, and none of them have any signs of being disturbed.

    7. My little kitty monster is the same!... she started out ok-ish with the dolls but when I moved recently it seemed like all hell broke loose! she steals there wigs and chews them up..she chews on there hands.she even stole poor Jennies panties!! (I was trying to sew up a hole in them when the cat made off with them!) Its like she is jealous of the dolls for some reason so now I have them locked up in the sewing room to keep them safe when I'm at work. I think it really comes down to trying to balance the time you spend with your dolls and your pet.. she IS getting better when I spend time to play with her and what not and then it isnt so bad when I do stuff with the dolls so that would be my suggestion for anyone going though the same thing!

    8. my cat is very intelligent and delicate :) she never touches dolls, but she is always around to help unboxing, sewing or crafting. she always participates, but never ever does anything. as if she understands :)

    9. I spent 3 weeks at my mom's house. We had 1 cat, she was very well behaved and she just ignored my doll but I still do not want them near each other so the 1st week, I kept my doll in his carrying case.

    10. I have two cats and two dogs.. And they all freak me out when it comes to this. Until I find some kind of showcase or cabinet, I just hide my boy in his box to keep him safe.

    11. It's winter where I live, and my bedroom gets quite warm. To cut down on yellowing I keep my crew in an unheated room that's closed off to my cats. The only problem I have is shooing them away from the door when I come out, which can be tricky since both my cats are young and snoopy!

When summer rolls around I'll have to move my dolls back into my main bedroom because it's the only bedroom with a ceiling fan that keeps things cool. While I'm out of the house I shut the door and don't let the cats stay in (I also do this to protect my third pet, a chinchilla that the cats are very interested in). While I'm at home the best I can do is put the dolls up high and make sure the cats don't get on my desk, which they have occasionally done in the past. Usually my girls are more interested in getting in my face and stomping on my computer keyboard than they are my desk and dolls, so it works out pretty well.

    12. Only take out the dolls on the upper floor where the dog is not allowed to go. Not that he would anyway because he's scared of using those stairs since they are "see-through" between each step instead of solid. I have everything I need on the upper floor like the sewing machine, fabrics and so on, so I don't really need to move downstairs unless it's an outside shoot. And even when the dolls DO catch his attention, he is kind of wary of them and stay away, so I don't worry too much.:XD:

    13. Just keep the dolls where the pet cannot access easily. I store my dolls inside my wardrobe and never had any problem with my pets

    14. I have a whippet pup that likes to get into EVERYTHING!! I currently have nowhere to put my babies to keep them safe.
I just bought a craft table with cubbies to put them I , but I have to wait for my boyfriend to put it together. In the meantime, they are in their original boxes.

    15. I am very fortunate that my Husky has absolutely no interest at all in my dolls. When i'm not doing something with them they are kept in a glass fronted cabinet (which I cover) in my room to protect them from other things like light and dust.

    16. I keep them on a shelf in mine and my husband's room, which is the only room in the house where the pets aren't allowed. It works pretty well that way, as they're guaranteed to be safe. ^_^

    17. My cats can't come into my room because of my allergies (I wish they could, but I can't deal with sleeping on a cat hair covered bed), so I keep my doll in there when I'm not around. When I'm around I have my doll around me and if I'm doing something that means I can't pay attention to where they are I put her in my room. My current cats are good little cats, they never do anything wrong surprisingly. However I like to be on the safe side and never leave her out when I'm not there to make sure.

Also, resin is bad for them, so I never let them near the dolls unless I'm right there. If I didn't have a room I would keep her in a drawer, her box, or something else I know they couldn't get into.

    18. I keep my dolls on a high shelf in my closet, over 7 feet above the floor with the door closed, partly so I can see them when I go into my closet in the morning and at night to change, partly to prevent sunlight from getting to them, and partly to stop my jumping little dog from getting at them. The dual measures make sure my dog won't touch them. I also made my dog purposely scared of them (just moving the dolls to freak him out, he's okay) so he wont touch them even if I forgot them outside my room!

    19. Whenever I am not "playing" with my doll (taking photos, doing faceup), I make sure to keep her in her original box at all times, and keep her on the top shelf in my closet! I do not have any pets however, I just want to take the utmost care of her since she cost a pretty penny and I want to extend her life as much as I can!

I'd say keeping your dolls in a box/container, when you are not playing with them, should help keep the cat out. If you want to display them, you can buy a glass case, as you mentioned in your post. I'm not sure how resin would handle any pet barrier sprays, so be careful if you do choose that route.

    20. I usually put dolls on my dresser, against the wall. My cat jumps on it a lot which freaks me out because I've got tons of porcelain dolls, but I just make mean sounds at her and she goes away. It works a little, but I feel like it wont work 100% for everyone.
