Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How do you protect your Dolls from pets?

Jan 9, 2015

    1. Well, at the moment, they have to stay in their boxes in my closet, but when I move to a new apartment, I will get them a display cabinet so I can admire them all day long with out the fear of my 7 month old puppy getting his paws on them.

    2. I keep mine in a storage drawer in his box until I get a door in my room

    3. I'm pretty lucky with my pets. The biggest threat to my dolls is my basset hound who doesn't know her own girth and will knock things over in her enthusiastic attempts for attention. She also has a tendency to smear her drool on things, which isn't harmful but it's really gross and annoying. So she isn't allowed in the room when I have my dolls out. When my dolls aren't being used, they stay in their boxes, which helps prevent any possible foul play

    4. So sorry you've had such trouble with your roommates cat!

I don't have a lot of advice as all my pets live in tanks or are dogs who understand a very firm 'Leave It.' But, as others have mentioned, it's probably best that you keep your door closed, and do not allow that cat into your room while you're gone, or asleep!

My bedroom doesn't have a door, just a curtain and a baby gate for now to keep my roommate's dog out (she's a huge brat who destroys everything as soon as you aren't looking). Even though she's too afraid to jump over the gate with the curtain drawn, if I ever forget to draw it, she's immediately in there trying to ruin things. So I keep my dolls in their boxes when I'm not working on them or admiring them. ^-^

    5. I have my dolls on a shelf in my room, at about my head's height, so my cat has no way to get to them. Though he doesn't really mind them. I found out recently that he likes playing with yarn (which I make wigs with), but still, no way he could reach my dolls. :''

    6. My cat nox likes to chew on anything plastic and he also likes to rub his furry butt all over life. I've got my dolls up on a bookshelf, high up, and don't have anything that the cats could jump on to be able to get up there to keep them away from him. A few times with a spray of canned air helped train nox though. It doesn't hurt the cat, and it helps remind them that the behavior is not acceptable. Also, play time. Bored cats are destructive cats. I get a little laser pointer, toys with feathers, jingly balls, etc. They're cheap and the kitties love them and it's fun to play with the cats! they are SO FUNNY when they start getting a riled up.

    7. Barrier sprays don't always work, anyway. I've drenched my countertop in barrier spray, just to watch my cat walk all over it right afterward. I would definitely never rely on one, even if the resin did handle it fine.

You've definitely got a training problem with that dog; if your roommate won't handle it, you should try at least getting a handle on the baby gate being an impassible barrier. There's a lot of youtube videos on training dogs, and I'd strongly recommend working on it, because it's only a matter of time before she decides the curtain isn't a barrier, too. (And yes, a dog can learn to consider a baby gate impassible; my friends' dane won't jump over the gates even when she's standing on furniture that puts her more than high enough, and the mastiff they're fostering won't push through an obviously unlatched gate because he knows he has to stop.)

    8. cat wise I personally have no problems becuase my cat just doesn't care. Some things you can try are putting bitter spray on the clothes or double sided tape around them cats hate the feeling of tape on their feet. Dog wise a high shelf will prevent issues.

    9. I have many pets there not allowed in my room but i suggest putting them in a closed box

    10. I'm lucky that I have my own room so I can put my dolls in my room and close/block off access to my room/dolls. I also put the dolls and dolls items (clothes, wigs, etc) in a closed cabinet inside my room so I guess that's doubly the protection from snoopers and pets alike

    11. Until very recently we didn't have any problems--the dolls are all stored on a shelf well out of reach of the dog and the cat we used to have, and they never showed any real interest in them. Our birds have left them alone as well, preferring the top shelf up above their spot to survey the room. However, we're fostering a pigeon right now who just does not understand that he's too big to be landing on lower shelves. He landed in my Yo's lap last night! We're considering putting mesh or something around the shelves they sit on to block bird arrivals, but it would look gross and I don't want to do it.

    12. I have a glass cabinet for my BJD's/collectables which I highly recommend. Unless the cat is VERY skilled I don't think he/she would be able to open it (you can get ones with lockable doors) and then cat and dolls will stay safe. You can get wall mounted glass cabinets. I'm fortunate in that my own pet, my dog isn't really interested in my dolls anyway, he likes soft plushies and he has plenty of his own. :3nodding: You don't want a cat to be nibbling on resin, the owner needs to buck up and start taking responsibility. If she really cares about the welfare of the cat she needs to take action, if not then the cat would be better off getting re-homed.

    13. I use to keep mine high and out of reach. Still, one of my bunnies got up onto one of my dressers and chewed off two fingers of one of my dollies. Now they stay behind closed cabinets.

    14. I display my dolls in my room, on a shelf and out of reach. Still, my cat managed to sneak in one time, and I found him all snuggled against my DD... (;´∀`) He's usually very careful with his moves, and I don't think that he would damage or push a thing over, so I'm just paying more attention to properly close my door now.

    15. We have cats (just two for now, but we've had more in the past), and I've always kept my dolls stored in their boxes for that reason. When I do take them out, the cats are sometimes curious, but mostly they ignore the dolls. However, I just don't want to risk the damage, since cats do like to jump on things!

    16. I don't let the cats in my room unsupervised (but I'm actually not in that state right now). This has been a rule since before I purchased BJDs, mostly because we had one (19+ year old) cat that peed once in a plastic storage container in my room where I was keeping quilt pieces. That simply wouldn't do!

Watson (cat pictured in my profile picture) has a nasty habit of hoarding cylindrical objects (pens, highlighters, markers, pencils, mascara containers, lipstick, eyebrow pencils, paintbrushes, dowel rods, silverware, chopsticks, crochet hooks, knitting needles, pipe cleaners, pvc pipe, sticks from the yard, etc.). She steals the cylindrical object, and then carries it to her hoard, which is a set location that changes as soon as it is found out.

My parents are huge holiday decorators, and when I was back at their home over the holidays (the room I mentioned earlier--I'm in that in between state where I have someplace to live on my own but also a room at my parents'), they had a snow village out with 1/12 elm trees, conifers, and moving ice skaters. Watson stole all of them, and hoarded them in the corner of the basement.

As soon as my mom found the stuff and put it all back, she went back to the snow village to spirit it away again to a new location. I do not want the hoard to live in my room; therefore, Watson is not allowed in it alone.

    17. I have two rather large tabby cats (part Maine Coon which explains the size) and they are completely disinterested in my doll so it has not been a problem so far. I make sure to put her in a protected place when I am out just in case they develop a sudden fascination. They do get a little jealous when I pay too much attention to her but they just sulk and complain verbally! The female sometimes "helps" me knit things for my doll which can be a challenge :)

    18. These days most of my dolls are in storage, and the few who are on display are displayed high enough up that the dog would have difficulty reaching them.

But when I used to have them all out on shelves, I just had the dog trained not to go near them. He's well-behaved enough that I felt secure in that, but obviously that wouldn't work for cats! ;)

    19. I can safely say that my dogs have no interest in my dolls. It could be the smell of the resin or the fact that my dolls can't give them food/treats.

    20. I have a "no pets allowed" room where I can do my crafting and I keep them up on a high shelf in there, just in case one of my cats finds there way in. Any of my expensive/delicate stuff is usually up high with no easy stuff to jump from as a precaution.
