It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you protect your Dolls from pets?

Jan 9, 2015

    1. My dog isn't really interested in my dolls but it is probably a good idea to get a glass door cabinet/display case (I'm currently planning on getting one). It would also keep your dolls from being pushed off a high shelf or being chewed on. :)

    2. We have a dog and he isn't allowed in certain rooms in the house, which includes my room. My dolls are always kept in there with the door closed, so I never have to worry about my dog getting to them.

    3. My bulldogs could not be any less interested. Once I tried to show my girl bully one of my dolls just to see what she would think-- just held it out towards her to let her smell it. She looked at me with an expression that I'd describe as mildly offended and turned her head away; she didn't want to hang out with me anymore until the doll was gone.

My boy bully was in the livingroom one day when a doll was delivered, and I opened the box on the couch instead of taking it down to my doll room. As soon as I pulled the doll out of the box, he looked super startled and ran to shove himself under an end table.

I don't ever have my dolls out anywhere where the bullies could get at them, anyway (they're either on their shelves or on a table where I'm working on something for/with them) but given that the puppers' reactions have ranged from "whatever, no thanks" to "big yikes" when they have seen them a little more closely, I don't think I'd have a lot to worry about. Still--- best policy is always to just keep your dolls displayed and stored where pets can't access, and that's what I do.

    4. My cats just Do Not Care about my dolls. One cat is fascinated with their wigs though. He likes chewing hair in general and we can't break him of the habit. So I just keep them away from him but he's usually shadowing my bf.

My bf's cat actually snuggled with one of my boys when I first unpacked him and he was naked. Almost like she was trying to keep him warm.

My oldest cat doesn't care unless they give scritches so they're safe from her.

    5. In my experience, the best way to get your cat to leave your dolls alone is to never make it seem like your dolls are more interesting or important than your cats. If your cat sees that you find something interesting they will be interested in it as well. If you try to keep the cat out the cat will become almost obsessed with seeing what you are keeping from them. I'm not sure if this is true for all cats, but all of mine have to be doing whatever I'm doing at all times and have horrible separation anxiety.
Glass cabinets are always good but nothing is ever cat proof. If your cats are mechanically inclined you may come in the room to find the cat has opened the door to the room, opened the cabinet and has gotten inside of it (yes, this has happened to me).
I either play when my cats are distracted or outside, or leave some toys in the room for them to play with. If my cats want my attention I immediately put down the doll and throw a toy or open a closet door. Cats can't resist closets. This sounds difficult, but its really not. As long as I "involve" my cats in the process, they don't care about the dolls.

    6. My cat isn’t interested in any of my dolls but is a climber and jumper so my bjd are in a display cabinet with glass doors.

    7. My housemate has a cat and 2 dogs. I keep my dolls in my bedroom, and keep my bedroom door closed. But occasionally the cat will sneak in and explore my room. Lulu prefers exploring under my desk or bed, however, and has never jumped up on the shelf with the dolls.
One time I had one of my SDs sitting on my desk. Lulu the cat looked up suddenly and spotted the big doll. It must have freaked her out, because she turned tail and ran out of the room as if she had seen a ghost. I had a good laugh at that.
      .
The two dogs are old and barely move anyway, so they are no threat, even when my door is open.

    8. My dolls are being displayed in a room where my cat is not allowed.

    9. A cabinet that the animals can't open is probably the best option for particularly nosy pets.

My cat leaves my dolls alone, but uses their sofas from time to time.

    10. I have mine on display in a ikea bookshelf with glass doors. My Trinity stood nicely on her stand (until i screwed up and mauled her face-up with my claws T_T) and the only thing my kitters have shown interest in is a white wig my Luts kid delf Corni has... I have them in the display case just in case but my cats seem to be more interested in sleeping in their lap, begging for the dolls to pet them XD

    11. My cat is very nice around my dolls. She has only tried to bite once, but stopped when I reacted by saying “no” and taking the doll away. Other than that she usually just headbutts their hands. I think she wants the dolls to pet her?

if my cat wasn’t as well mannered though, I would keep my dolls usually in a place she couldn’t reach. If you can’t, double sided tape around the perimeter of the doll area helps. Cats aren’t a fan of sticky things on their paws. Tin foil can also work ive heard. After a while they’ll get the message. I’ve also heard they don’t like citrusy scents, so maybe that could be used somehow? It would take some trial and error to find out what works for your cat.

while that’s in place, when I bring my doll down, I would monitor how she acts around them. Reward her for ignoring, and react (like saying no) if she does try to bite. After a while she might get the memo that ignoring the dolls makes the human happy, and lets her get treats/pets/ playtime.

    12. Protect? :D

      [IMG]IMG_4302 by Sshodan, on Flickr

I do not... At least not from a cat. Some dogs may have to much enthusiasm for chowing things (especially pups) but cats generally do not chew resin... Not unless they want your attention. And if a cat you are co habituating with needs attention the only reasonable course of action is to give it. In spades :)
My kitty "helps" me with all face ups, body blushing, crocheting, jewelry making and any other activity I can come up with. She loves sitting in my doll corner on my desk (they have a nice carpet in there) and I have no problem with any of that because she is "polite", careful and the biggest "damage" she caused is cat hair... That are all over my adobe anyway :D
The key part to ensure your pets good behavior is to make sure they have an outlet for their energy - play with them and play well (until they are tired and panting, with active play 15-20 min. can cut it), if they are prone to chowing things make sure they have chow toys that they enjoy. There has to be a YES for every NO you are saying - the agreement that they can do THIS instead of THAT.
In case of the OP - play with the cat before going to sleep. Get it a few toys and feed it before your bedtime as well, so they are not interested in coursing trouble. For them it is never about the dolls, it's about making humans pay attention :)

    13. I'm so lucky that my cat isnt interested BUT she loves to jump up into their shelving and shes a big chunker so i fear for them falling or something! I put a lot of other things around the dolls so she doesn't feel like there's space for her there, or I put them in a closed cabinet. Maybe a few other things of more interest to a cat would distract her, like some cheap plucking boards or a few jingly toys here and there

    14. The Milsbo by Ikea is what I use, it's wonderful actually
