How do you store your doll's clothes and shoes?

Jul 21, 2011

    1. That sounds like a great storage system, Draeganwolf. I found the best hangers I've ever used, on eBay, here:

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/200686344205?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

This seller has the best hangers and price I found. They're usually so expensive for 3 or 4 hangers. I get his larger sizes for coats and really large, heavy bjd clothes. But, the 5" size in this listing is the perfect scale for SD and MSD sized clothes. I also bought a bunch of miniature clothespins in the scrapbooking section of the store and I use them to clip skirts or secure wide-neck shirts on the hanger. There are probably more practical ways to put the clothes up. But, the whole miniature, to-scale thing really makes me happy.

    2. If that link doesn't work later on, the eBay seller is ittap52 and the size of the hangers is 5". :)

    3. I keep their clothes in their doll boxes. Or I keep them in a closet where all their stuff is ^^"

    4. i use the whole top draw of my own chest of draws for my dolls stuff so her clothes ect all all like mine all her shoes are in there too its sort of arranged in sections so i know where everything is

    5. I have a clear storage box that has other little boxes inside of it for all sorts of things. I think I may be a bit OCD about it haha. They are all folded up in there.

    6. I've FINALLY cleared out an entire drawer in my bedside table (that isn't actually at my bedside...) and am storing all my doll things in there. Well, all wigs, eyes, clothing, accessories, props, etc... are all in Zip-Lock baggies in the drawer. I think I'm going to have to move my sheets and fill the second drawer with their stuff too. xwx;;

    7. I bought several lovely decorative suitcase boxes from craft stores and use them to house my extra clothes, props, ect. They're very useful and pretty ^^

    8. I have a set of hat boxes that are coordinated to display together. They look pretty and stack with largest on bottom, smallest on top. I use them for the 3 doll sizes, to keep things in them organized by size. Then plastic baggies for the individual items inside those boxes. I'm getting ready to launch a massive organization effort so I appreciate this peek into what other people are doing.

I've recently bought some second hand/thrift store jewelry boxes. Earring compartments are a good way to bring order to many small items, especially eyes. I've collectrd a large {HUGE??} quantity of textiles for clothes and prop makings. I put them in groups of color or project related mounds, and then store them in old bedspread and sheet heavy plastic bags. I like keeping it all compacted together in something where I can see what is inside. These are stored in an antique blanket chest -- my cat's favorite perch under a low window. But double protected from his free gift of long white cat fur. =^_^= ...he is an issue at my house. Fortunately he only wants to play with the dolls when I'm trying to take pictures. My cat is very jealous about the camera and my attention.

I'm currently creating a corner by that same window to store props and any photography session doll goodies. Working on pruning my books to make room for my love of doll collecting finds. The common theme of keeping things together = my goal. NOT there yet!

    9. Well, I collected american vynal BJDs before I was struck by the dollfie bug, so I had an armour from a previous doll that's on scale. It's big, black, and shaped like a coffin, but it stores both my of dolls' clothing, shoes, accesories, and what not. This summer I'll be fixing two new bars to hang clothes on in the side meant for the doll to be strapped in. Once my stuff outgrows that I'll use a drawer for most things and keep only clothes that have to be hung up in there.

    10. This thread is very helpful. I am getting my first doll soon and was not sure what I was going to do with all of her clothes and accessories. I really like the idea of using hat boxes as I can still use them as a decorative item.

    11. I have my doll's clothes, shoes and accessories separated by scale in Ziploc bags and stored in a boot box under the bed. I'm hoping to find some appropriately sized dressers someday, but for now this works. I have a hanger set up for each one that I put up for photos, but there's not enough room to leave them up all the time.

    12. I have an MSD doll, so my (favorite) clothes for her i store in a fancey looking jewlery box.
The others, for now, stay in her carrying case :3

I don't have my Ringdoll Sol yet but today I snagged this large cabinet and small box for $15 total at the local thrift store. The inside cabinet height is 34 inches and my doll is about 29 inches so it's perfect. It has adjustable/removable shelves and an inner light that I don't plan on using. It's large but not too big for me (goes to my belly button). It's not too low where I need to kneel down to look at it so I'm happy I found the perfect height for my room.

The smaller box is just to keep his clothes and accessories as a temporary thing. I have another organized pretty box type thing for his extra eyes, extra hands, tools, and eye putty.. I plan on customizing the large cabinet to have additional small half-shelves for his accessories (he will be standing in the middle). I'm about to order him a large doll stand to make sure he doesn't fall over.

I did not want him sitting on a shelf or anything because personally I don't want to deal with 1. dust 2. sun-light 3. my cats 4. falling over. I think once it's all finished it will turn out lovely and I'll move it to my bedroom. : ) I'm just glad to be getting everything ready before he arrives. My cat is in the reflection.

    14. I have a storage tub/box for my doll clothes. It was scary to find I had more clothes then would fit in the box. So the bigger outfits (Dollheart Fers mainly) tend to be worn by the dolls as much as possible. I have another box for wigs, and the shoes and small accessories are in a drawer. Another box for doll parts. Yes doll stuff has taken over...

I keep thinking I should clean out the hope chest to put the doll stuff/clothes in there.

    15. Mine are stored in metal tins which are stacked in front of one of my bookshelves.

    16. I try to save all the fancy and kawaii boxes I happen to own (Christmas/birthday presents boxes etc.) and use them for each doll. And then I use a metal box for the various custom/faceup tools.

    17. Agh. I am SO disorganized...

At first I had a tiny set of drawers (more like those little drawers for crafts), with separate drawers for wigs, shoes, etc. But everything outgrew that after a year or two...

Then I started keeping everything in zip-lock bags and putting those in big storage bins. Now, I've got 5 or 6 of those and that doesn't even hold everything...

Aside from that, I guess I really should start culling all the doll stuff at some point! *_*

    18. in ikea boxes under my bed. ^^

    19. All my dolls' clothes are in individual zip lock bags with punctured holes in a large shoe box. Before, they were hung up in my display cabinet with my dolls, but I was worried about UV radiation lightening/damaging the clothes. The shoes are just in a box right now. When I accrue too many clothes and shoes to fit their current boxes, I'll buy a 5-drawer dresser and designate each size doll one shelf.

    20. At first, I used to put my dolls' clothes in ziplock bags and store them away in boxes. Which I then placed on top of my bookshelves, making it an extra hassle to take them down (I'm very short!) every time I wanted to change outfits. So I now store my dolls' clothes in a drawer in my wardrobe; since none of the outfits I currently have require special care, I pretty much have everything in the drawer and rummage through it when I need to get a particular piece. But I've seen some plastic storage kits (intended for beauty products and jewelry) that look like miniature chests of drawers, and I'm thinking of getting a couple for my dolls.
