How do you store your doll's clothes and shoes?

Jul 21, 2011

    1. I like the idea of a jewelry box. But I'm wondering... My IS Valentine is a fashion designer. Is there a more... fitting way of storing clothing do you think? I'm already considering making a few molds of his body to make mini dressforms so those might work, but what else?

    2. I haven't set up the little clothing rack yet-- in part because I have no hangers for it-- so for now, some doll clothes/shoes are kept in the doll boxes, some in clear pink and purple snap-tight plastic boxes, and some in a big (well, to the dolls it's big) leather trunk, as well as some accessories that I keep in jewelry boxes... It's a bit scattered at the moment, but eventually it will all be sorted so that everyone has his (and eventually, her) own specific storage solution. MAYBE two-dolls-per-box, if we're talking about sharing the big leather one, since at the moment I could fit everybody's clothes into that one, but I would rather let them have their own wardrobes.

So far the most I've got to that end is that purple boxes belong to Vince and pink boxes belong to Pete, but when it comes to storing other places, everything's all thrown in together-- the box Billy came from has just anybody's stuff, as do the pockets in Vince's (but Pete would fit it as well) carrying bag... Eventually, the big leather case will be the trunk for my SDs, I just don't have any SDs yet.

    3. I actually commisioned a wooden wardrobe for my doll display area (which looks like a bedroom, with an Ikea Duktig bed as the centerpiece). The wardrobe is MSD-sized but works for SD as well and it holds all my Midori's stuff. It contains some shelves, drawers and a rack-with-hangers area and looks just like a human wardrobe. Then earlier this week I picked up a wooden tea box that looks exactly like a set of drawers with heart-shaped handles, so that's in their bedroom now too and will contain lots of small stuff such as socks. Under their bed I have some miniature plastic containers from Ikea to hold all the tiny Hello Kitties, Lalaloopsies and stuff like that. And then I have a number of plastic snap lock boxes that contain everything else, sorted according to type: shoes, wigs & accessories, clothes, props, tools & parts etc.

    4. This thread really underscores that I have too many doll clothes.

I keep mine in those big decorative nesting storage boxes, and hatboxes, etc. Most of the clothes and wigs are sealed in ziplocks, but the really huge outfits (Dollheart and Volks sets in particular, they're enormous, all ruffles and tulle and stuff) have to be split into separate gallon-sized ziplock bags and then boxed by themselves.

    5. I have a... Ah, I'm not quite sure what it is called but it is a pretty long drawer-like thing that is suppose to be hung up from the roof. It's made out of this cute sailor striped fabric, has 4 drawers and 3 'open spaces' and is absolutely adorable.

I got one drawer for doll clothes, one for wigs, one for misc items (glue, eyelashes, accessories to use in sewing) and one for small bits of fabrics/etc. When I eventually get more dolls I'll re-sort the drawers one way or another.

    6. I have a little rubbermaid rolling storage thing. it has three drawers so i can seperate out cloths shoes and accessories... But i think i need to upgrade soon. XD too many cloths.

    7. I'm terrible with the stuff I made myself - they're all stuffed in a large box on top of my closet ^^" Outfits I received in swaps or otherwise got from friends are kept neatly folded in ziplock bags, but they're not sorted by size. I used to have 2 separate boxes for each size, divided in 2 for each doll, but my 2 MSD's have way more clothing than my SD and they share everything. So it's all in the same box now x'D

    8. I have a smallish rolling metal cart I bought at Ikea -- there are several slim drawers, just right for doll clothes! I keep my shoes and other stuff in photo boxes from the craft store.

    9. Right now the minis share a dresser and a closet-in-progress, the SD's share a dresser, and the tinies have a boot box, two dressers, a closet, and then some unsorted stuff laying around. :sweat None of them really share clothes, just space for now.

    10. I used to use a collection of stackable, decorative boxes and trunks... but got really tired of having to rummage through several of them to find the one thing I was looking for. I could never remember exactly what I'd put where, and you couldn't tell what was in any particular box until you opened it. <_<

So, a couple of years ago I finally wised up, put the trunks and boxes to other uses and bought a matching pair of small, three-drawer chests of drawers from World Market to stash everything in. That was a HUGE improvement and has made sorting and then finding the crew's outfits, shoes, spare wigs and such much, much quicker and easier.

I love these things... and the top turned out to be a great place for my antique kabuki actor and a few of the taller resin guys who just won't fit in the display cabinets with the rest of the gang.

    11. My clothes are sorted by size and put in ziplock bags - I have two locations where I store them. The smaller sizes and the female clothes are stored in my hollow footrest, while the big boys' clothing has a whole drawer in my wardrobe. The shoes and boots have their own decorative storage box, as well as all the accessories and wigs.

    12. My doll clothes are stored in some of the boxes my dolls came in and this really cool metal trunk I found at a thrift store for a great price. Eventually I plan on making them a closet, or giving them one of my chests to use.

    13. I have a special set of drawers that I keep all my stuff in, seperated by wigs, shoes and clothes. Since I only have one doll, it's not really that much to store.

    14. IKEA has some really great cardboard boxes with a black and tan "Steampunk" sort of look. I've also stolen a very cute teen size armoire from my daughter. This is great for the doll box storage too!

    15. I got Closetmaid pieces like the two drawer one and the one with two doors and put them together to make a closet. The one with doors is the main part, it has tension rods to hang up outfits on. The drawers are for other things, like socks and underwear, and shoes. My current struggle is where to store all my larger props. I need to get some see-through bins for them, I think.

    16. What i did was puting each clothes in separated zipped bag and labling each bag with the discription and size of the clothes. Then i put all the bags in a big closet. I think such way is really easy for me to find certain clothes~

    17. There are some really great ideas here. Glad you brought this up, Kristydoll. Thanks. :D

    18. They have taken over a drawer and some hanging space in my closet ^^;

    19. I have a whole drawer dedicated to all of my dollie things. I try to keep everything nice and tidy but, the fact of the matter is, when I'm looking for one specific thing and I cannot find it, usually everything ends up scrambled anyway :doh

    20. I have those organizers that hang down from the closet for my guys' stuff. I have a big cubby for each size's clothing, which has become 2 cubbies per size now, one for shoes, and a small cubby for each size of wigs, one for accessories, one for eyes/lashes/elastic, and finally, one for my smaller props.

My dolls sit around dressed for the most part, so I don't need tons of storage for clothes. I wish I had a big enough wardrobe for them that I couldn't say that. Ha ha.
