How do you store your doll's clothes and shoes?

Dec 16, 2004

    1. I was considering getting a trunk to dump all my doll stuff in but I seriously don't have the space for that in my room right now. I've got way too many things in there already and there's no space for anything else. I'm stressing out at the moment thinking about where to keep my Uni Real Jace. His box is huge!

But back to the topic at hand...

I'm thinking of putting my doll clothes in my cupboard. I'll just separate them by color, type and size and stuff it into ziplock bags then into the thing that laundry places give you when you send your jacket off for a wash. It'll just hang in my cupboard. That would have to do for now. As for my doll's wigs, they only have one each at the moment. It's kept in the box with them. ^^

    2. My "order" is two Chicken Sandwich, two BBQ Rib with Corn and two coke medium size please LOL LOL

mine is about the same as yours

some in boxes, some in bags at the end they are mixed up and many never got worn..... why do I still buy???

    3. I don't really have enough as of now to need to really 'store' them, but I suppose eventually I'll get a box of some sort I guess, maybe just keep top stuff on one side bottoms on the other? ~shrug~

    4. I have a big plastic underbed container just for doll stuff, and I keep most of it in there, all of the wigs are in nets, in a separate box, I have one for eyes and "spare parts" you know, extra hands and eyes and any other weird bits like that, then I have bags for the clothing, elves in one bag, band and wolves in one bag, and one for my minis as well. The bags are props themselves being fairly well scaled large doll suitcases...only issue is the handles are too big for scale

    5. I put them in zip lock bags.

    6. Right now, I have them sitting on a shelf but once I clean out the spare room, I'm storing them into the compartments with the sewing supplies for easy access.

    7. I love this thread, it is very inspirering ^^ I don't know why I am surprised that so many in here are so organized and neat with their things. Makes me kindof imbaressed to say I am a bit of a mess with mine. I have a small closet thing with three drawers and a door and everything has just been thrown in there...

    8. Valentinegirl: Im impressed!!!
Would love to see some photos.
I would also like to have it like you. (I am from IKEA-land).

    9. I got a box with some S-hooks, sandpaper and some other things like hands and a MSD-head and some wig fixing velcro in one box...it's actually pretty messy, but I keep it in categories in tiny boxes inside the box. I also got a box where I keep their clothing, wigs, eyes and shoes, and it's both MSD-, model doll- and SD-stuff. I don't have much yet, but it fills kinda much :sweat

I think I need more boxes!

    10. I only have four dolls at the moment, but all of their clothing and accessories have been put into a decorative hatbox. I'm quickly out-growing said hatbox, so I'm not sure what I'll do when that eventually happens. I find that as long as I keep everything folded neatly, I can make the most out of the space I have. Heck; I might buy another hat box at my craft store. They don't take up too much space and they're pretty to look at.

    11. Extra wigs I keep then in their hair nets then place them into bags before placing them into a container. For clothes I don't just chuck it into a dressing table drawer, I make sure they are either nicely folded, OR, are lying straight to prevent any creases.

    12. I seem to be starting a collection of boxes of varying sorts. ^_^"

I have two big shoe boxes (the kinds for knee-high boots) which I store my doll clothing in. Each girl has her own at this point, but I'll need to find something for Mr. Holmes soon...
Since all of my dolls are rather large, and their clothing is often full-skirted and victorian-esque, I don't think I could fit a whole dress in a zip-lock bag without folding it like a handkerchief. ^_~
I also store hats and small accessories like shawls and such that go with each doll in their clothing box.

All of my wigs are kept in their original packaging: little paper ball, net, and cardboard, wrapped in a plastic bag. It seems to work very well. These are then sorted into long and short wigs.

As for shoes...I don't have a huge collection so these are stored in a little cabinet I found:

Small accessories have made a home in my Amber's Soom box. Which itself has taken up residence under the empty doll cases.

What I really want to do is designate one space where all of my doll things can be stored together. At the moment everything is in little clusters.

    13. Well, each size and/or sex has their own dresser drawer. The SD sized boys have one drawer, my KDF girl has her own, the MSD and KDF boys have their own drawer. The SD and delf girls have their own Tinkerbell boxes. My tinies share a drawer, but the pukis have a small box, the tiny boys have a bag with their stuff, the tiny girl has her own, my Erin has a zipper bag. Shoes have a drawer, and wigs have 2 drawers since the drawer was smaller, but they're overflowing.

I'd like to be able to do like Kiyakotari though. Just no room.

    14. Wow, you guys have inspired me!

ValentineGirl, I would LOVE to see pictures of your setup! It sounds really creative and so organized....I love it!

When I first posted, I only talked about the clothes and wigs.........what I actually did for ALL the dolly stuff I have........I went to this inexpensive furniture store, and bought a very inexpensive wooden bookcase (unfinished at the moment, I'd like to paint it one day). It has four shelves on it, and the top for display space as well. I bought four of those fabric storage bins at Kmart, and that's where I had been keeping all my stuff.

I use the top of the bookcase to keep my larger doll furniture, like upholstered chairs, benches, etc. and usually keep my msd size dolls sitting there. I have the shelf at the bottom of our staircase, so it's not right in the path of the main traffic through the house, they're kind of sheltered in that area, and there are no windows there either. The second shelf I put the furniture for the smaller dolls, and the msd size dolls bed, because it's shorter. The bottom shelves I keep for storage. I would love to one day have a room just for my doll stuff, and then I would built shelves against the walls, with cubbies big enough to make a room for each doll!

Anyway, back to the storage........I had tried to keep one for face up supplies, eyes, paints, etc., then one for clothes, one for sewing supplies, and one for "misc."..........the reason this didn't work for me was A. keeping all the clothes together just created this huge box o' mess where I could never find anything.......and then when I was in a hurry, I'd just stuff things in whichever bin was closest!

I'm in the middle of a major thinning out, reorganizing event right now, so this was the perfect time to get some great new ideas! I can't beleive I never thought of putting the outfits into plastic storage bags.....duh!....LOL!

I sat down last night and started sorting things out, and ended up getting all my doll clothes done! I was amazed at how nice it keeps them, it's almost like ironing them if you press all the air out of the bag before you seal it.

As I sorted the bins to get my stuff together, I was also amazed to find several parts to outfits that I had thought were lost forever........... it was really cool to find all the stuff that matched and put them together in the baggies. I had a few leftover items that weren't part of any specific outfit, that I grouped according to like items and packed together.........with labels such as "vintage slips" "tulle underskirts" etc.

For the teeny weeny tiny dolls, like my CCC Firefly Fairy, I put several dresses into one bag........one little dress would get lost in a sandwich bag....LOL!....but then some of the bigger msd dolls outfits I had to use freezer bags for........it all appealed immensely to my natural OCD tendencies too, so I found it fun............now, to keep it this way! Here's what my previous "bin of no return" looked like after sorting and bagging:

And a couple examples of my bagged outfits:

Thanks for all the great ideas you guys........keep them coming!!

    15. I keep everything in various large doll trunks, one for shoes, wigs, seperates, dresses, gowns, coats & lingerie, boys' clothes. Then I have smaller trunks for jewelry & stockings. Also a three drawer chest with accessories, hats & purses.

In the wig box I have the wigs seperated by color & material. All the wigs have hairnets & seperate bags & they hold up pretty well. Since I like to mix & match clothing pieces I don't neccesarily keep entire outfits together except for the Dollheart pieces.

    16. I am a doll furniture junkie.:sweat I love doll wardrobes. I currently have 6 and 2 wooden trunks to store clothes and shoes for my 7 dolls. I have little chests of drawers for their underwear and knits and a storage cabinet for their doll food that is sorted by size (1/12, 1/6, 1/4). I even have doll bookcases for their books. Now, if I can just build the rooms built to hold all this bounty.:|

    17. My problem with bagging outfits is that I have a lot of separates but very few set outfits. Any ideas?

    18. Have a collection of old suitcases and they are wonderful for storing all kinds of things.
Very easy to hide a lot of tiny stuff and keep it safe.
That way my kidlets don't get into the BJD goodies when playing with their dollies.

    19. I am lucky that I get my own room for my dolls and all their items. As you can see I depend on cube units from Target and the cloth bins that fit inside each part.
Where I can take pics soon as a few things are done.

Every bin has a certain item inside from wigs to the girls shoes to boys toys. All are tagged for easy finding. Some dolls belong to my daughter as we kind of share room now that she is in to BJD too.

I also have a closet and a 6 drawer dresser for items. So plenty of space for it all.

    20. I have a set of plastic drawers in my closet for my dolls' clothes and wigs. Each doll has their own drawer of clothes, most folded. Some that I don't want wrinkled like skirts I put lying flat on the bottom of a drawer. Cloaks I have hanging up from a little hook in the closet. I store the wigs in hairnets inside of plastic bags in a drawer. I feel pretty organized and everything is easy to get at, so I'm perfectly happy with my storage system! I would say anyone looking to store their BJD stuff in a neat and easy way should just pick up a set of cheap plastic storage drawers, I'm really fond of mine. :)
