It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. The first time I ever saw a picture of a BJD was on a facebook quiz. The quiz was something about dreams and I got "Nightmares" and there was a picture of a very beautiful gothic looking doll. However, this was a while ago and I only remember this because I saved the result and only recently found it again.

I first learned about BJD's around this time last year. It was in a thread on another website and a girl wrote about how she wanted one of these dolls, mentioned a few companies, and posted a picture. The price? $600. At the time, they stuck in my mind but figured they'd be the sort of thing I'd get when I graduate and have a better paying job, a house, etc. I've loved dolls for ages but that was too much for me to spend on a doll (when I needed a new computer at the time).

Now, fast forward to late October (new computer was bought in late September). I met a girl at school and she started talking about dolls. She'd asked if I'd heard about BJD's and said yes and how I thought they were gorgeous, etc. She then told me how she had two on the way because she'd found a company that had smaller and less expesive dolls (Resinsoul). Since she told me that they were around $150 and at that point the prospect of actually having one of these dolls sounded like a reality.

I looked at Resinsoul's website later on, but none of the dolls really struck me as something I'd like to own. Eventually I found other sites that sold the most inexpensive dolls, and still none of them struck me to spend the money.

After some time, I started to really love Souldoll kids. They were smaller (I wasn't ready for a gigantic SD-sized doll) and therefore by default less expensive than SD's. This was sometime in December.

So about six months is the time it took for me to really feel like I "HAD" to have one.

    2. I first learned of BJDs about 2 years ago; however, when I saw the doll I purchased, I think it took me about 4-5 days because I decided to go ahead and get her.

    3. How much time passed since you guys first found about BJDs, to the time you finally gave in and ordered one?
      - Probably for about 1 and a half year, since I knew about it to the time I finally gave up and ordered one.

Also, for how long were you a doll-less DoA member?
      - I joined in April and ordered my doll in May, and still waiting so, I’m still doll-less at the moment. :sweat

    4. 7.
      Long.
      Years.

I was probably 12 or 13 when I found out about BJD's, and I honestly can't remember exactly how I found out about them. But when I looked at the prices(I only knew about Volks at the time) I knew I would never have one at that age and kind of just admired them from afar/the internet. So, when I was 15 I ran an anime convention in my hometown and a girl had a BJD with her, so we got down to talking and she introduced me to Luts dolls. Then I got a little more hooked, but I always seemed to have other things to spend my money on, because I'm quite the impulse buyer.

I still didn't know about DoA at that point, but I had a very good understanding of all the ways to care for the dolls, etc.

So now it's 2009 and since moving to Norway, getting married, and breaking my habits of impulse buying I finally said 'OK, I'm gonna do it. I will save up for a doll!'. I joined DoA and have been here for about 2 months now, and I finally ordered my first doll, a Custom House Ange Ai Hani, on July 1st. I plan on ordering a Supia Yan as soon as they are re-released too. I'm slowly working my way up to an SD. ;)

I'm so happy to finally welcome some dolls into my life! :)

    5. I decided I was going to get my first only a few months after really finding out about them. I'd seen one before in passing and balked at the price, and then when a friend linked me to Luts a few months later(the real discovery moment), I still thought they were too expensive. Didn't take me long after to start saving and I joined DoA the day I ordered my first boy. :]

    6. For me it was a matter of days once I found out exactly what they were and how I could get my hands on one ^_^

About three weeks after I got Ivy, I ordered a Hujoo, Clara; she arrived on Monday. A few days after I ordered Clara I found a Chesire Pipos looking for a good home, and he was at a really good price, so I adopted him. He should be coming today or tomorrow.

It would be awesome if he came today because it's my birthday ^_^

    7. I've known about them for about 3 or 4 years, but I always thought that I'll never be able to afford one. But this year, after a ton of bad things happened to me, I figured that I deserved a treat, and bought myself a BJD on ebay. I'm so glad I finally took the plunge and bought one... I'm so attached to him already and he comes with me everywhere.

I joined DoA shortly after I bought him, on the seller's recommendation. I'm so glad she pointed me over here, it's really been so helpful for me.

    8. I found out about them in roughly March, and bought one in May :doh
I am still a doll-less DoA member :( but hopefully sometime this month maybe next I will get a shipping notice!

    9. As soon as I saw the dolls I couldn't wait to get my hands on a doll head to make my own face. It was harder than I tho't even tho' I've been painting all my life. It's a challenge but so much fun! Anyway it wasn't more than about two weeks since I first found out about them.

    10. I've known about BJDs for about 4 years now and have been a DoA member for almost 2 years. I haven't been active in DoA in means of posting but I'm a lurker. Haha!

I always wanted one since the first time I saw them in the internet and have had a few opportunities to get one but decided to forgo them and wait a bit more. I wanted to make sure that my heart is in to BJDs and not just a passing interest, since they involve a lot of money.

Four years had passed and I'm still constantly drawn into them. I am getting my first doll at the end of September or early October.

Now, my only problem is which one to get. :sweat

    11. I saw pictures of BJDs on the net (particularly at DA), I think it was back at 2006, got intrigued and started to browse some of the BJD websites, no surprise I got scared by the price (and for the fact I was still at school then), but my interest for them still stayed even though I knew I couldnt possibly afford one.

Fast forward to 2009, got my first doll just a month ago and I couldnt be anymore happier ^^ I joined DOA after the day I ordered my boy, I still remember the excitement of waiting for his arrival.

    12. I knew about BJDs for a month but the price dissuaded me. Then my friend got hers, I started saving and got one. And planning for a second, even though my friend still has only one.

    13. ow dear, I was introduced to bjd by a friend, but didn't buy my own first doll, that one was a gift. I joined Doa right after getting her, and by then I was already saving up for my msd who was going to be my first doll, in oktober she'll be with me a year.

    14. I think the first time I saw a BJD was when I was 13 or so Ö It was none other than hiritai's Hayden :chibi I ended up on the Dollmore site, but found it very confusing and I gasped at the prices xD Then I forgot about it until I was 15, which was when I noticed one of hiritai's dolls again 8D;
I started saving in december 2008, became a member of DoA at the same time and my first doll should arrive within a few days now :fangirl:

    15. I had seen some Japanese art dolls in a similar style in the mid-90s I completely fell in love with. Not too long after that, a friend of mine posted a link to the Volks dolls. The similarity immediately became apparent, and I wanted one badly. At the time, -getting- one was not the easiest thing in the world, and I was balking at the price. I was heavily collecting fashion dolls at the time, and making clothing for them, so the idea of a larger doll that people would know at a glance was something not 'just bought that way' was incredibly appealing -- but I wasn't as fond of the childlike bodies. They reminded me a lot of what the fashion doll Cissy would be like if she was made in a different and more realistic style; fashion doll collectors might understand this one. (For those who don't, the more modern Cissy was a high end fashion doll at the time with some pretty awesome outfits and such once in a while.) She was also a little 'too childlike' to my eye, especially for the clothes she was often put in by owners, and while it isn't something that ever bothered me, it's something I knew immediately would drastically alter the kinds of things I would make for a doll like this. It would skew what I made more toward girly and/or sweet/youthful, and for the cost involved, I really wanted something I could do a much broader range of styles with within my personal comfort zone. I make doll things as a destressing mechanism -- have since I was about five. So I thought, "Hey, one of those would cover all my needs, be bigger to allow for a lot more detail, and I'd only need the one... but they're too young." I kept checking back for something that would work better for my needs a few times a year, not knowing much about other companies out there.

Then I spotted Soom toward the end of 2007. Instant doom, especially since I was finally making decent money for the first time. I had already made the decision to buy when I signed up here, and was just waiting for the dolls I wanted to become available on the site.

    16. I've known BJD for many years, but just got my 1st doll last year. Then I started researching and just join DOA this year :)

    17. Found out about BJDs in early 2007, then I joined DoA in late 2008 because I had became fairly interested in them, and ordered my first in July 2009! ^^ So, it took me about two and a half years!

    18. I had only known about BJDs for a couple of months before buying. (Though I had previously known about Hans Bellmer and GITS: Innocence without any further thought etc). Though I didn't rush into it. I heard about them from a classmate and when I started doing the research I couldn't stop. Summer began soon after, so my time looking up BJDs was in huge concentrated doses... I still haven't gotten over it, I know I still spend a little too much time on DOA ^^. My point being, if you accordion out that time coupled with a well-educated decision, I think I found the right BJD for me! At one point I decided to let the hobby pass me by, but then I caved at the end of July. :D

    19. The first time I saw a doll (on deviantart) I wanted one. I decided I HAD to have one after reading much more about them. That was about the time I joined DoA. I don't have one yet, but I've been saving since May.

    20. I'm sort of impulsive, so I bought my first doll a few months after I first heard about BJDs.

I didn't find out about DoA until about a week or so after that.
