1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I at first had no idea how anyone could spend that much money on a doll but the more my friend who had one talked about them the more i began to enjoy them until I found Malice and fell in love and just had to have him.

    2. Aaaah, I found out about them sometime in the year 2005.
A friend showed me a picture. Well, I went searching around, and I found LUTS as well. The price surprised me, so I didn't do too much about it, but sit, sigh, and pine until about a week ago, yesterday I just pulled money out of my account for him. Which is about when I joined here!

I do have a BJD, he's a 1/6 Volks. I got him this month last year. I'm pretty certain though, that when I get my LUTS that his "spirit" will go to the LUTS, and I can rename/repaint the small one!

    3. I vaguely remember similar threads, but can't find 'em... Oh, well.

I've been wondering, how much time passed since you guys first found about BJDs,to the time you finally gave in and ordered one?

I'd seen pieces of BJDs in a few auctions on ebay (not for sale themselves, but selling a few related items) back in 2002 or so, but didn't see a whole doll for sale until 2004--and became tempted (I was NOT tempted by kits that you had to order from services in Japan--although I was definitely intrigued--the eBay auction I saw was a Volks customized and sold by Satoko Ohno--I bid, but it went WAY up--so I got used to the idea of just how much these dolls could cost right away!!!). Anyway, it took me about one month to get over the idea of just how expensive they were (and there were NO inexpensive alternatives back then! Luts was the newer, less-expensive alternative, if that gives you an idea!) and order a doll.

Also, for how long were you a doll-less DoA member? Were you an active member, despite your lack of dolls?

I joined DoA at around the same time I ordered my first doll.

I had read about everything on the internet at that time, including DoA, before choosing my first doll, but I didn't bother to join DoA until I'd made up my mind what I wanted to do. Then I figured I was committed (heh, yeah, becoming one of the insane!) about to join along with others on the forum and also knew something about what was going on. I think it helped make me a tad less of an absolute nOOOOb (although, of course, I was a newbie, and didn't mind being one--- I was glad to have DoA there to help me out with it all--I'm still grateful for having such a great BJD resource, here).

It doesn't take me long to decide if I want something... harder to come up with the money, of course! But I was lucky and had a decent job at the time and no so many expenses. I was, naturally, thinking that I would only spend on ONE doll and maybe ONE or two outfits... hahahah. That fantasy ended quickly! (*sigh*) *_*

    4. I think I saw a BJD online for the first time late 2006. The price shocked me enough to forget all about them for a couple of months. Then in July 07 I went to a meet-up with a group of girls (non-doll retaled) and we randomly met a girl who had a MNF Shiwoo.
After that I got more and more interested, I joined the Danish BJD forum and tried learning everything about them.
I joined DoA in October 07 and ordered my first doll a few days before New Year.

I wasn't very good at resisting.

    5. found out about bjd in 2006, forgot about them until 2008. Then I found Soom and started looking at dolls often without realizing that I could actually buy and own them for some reason. Then in fall 08 I met a friend who owns a DoD Sha. once I realized that you could actually buy the dolls I started looking for 'mine'. I found E-an, and I had decided to buy her as my graduation present from me to me. Joined DoA summer 2009, wasn't active at all until October, when I decided to start saving for my E-an because I didn't want to wait 3 years to get her. Got more active on DoA after I decided that. Ordered my first doll,Soom Ai instead of E-an lol, on x-mas eve. waiting for her to get home.

so it took me 4 years to cave in and get my first doll lol.

    6. As they've become more popular - I've seen more of the different types and finally pre-ordered a few but they'll be coming April, June and August so although I'm ready, I still have to wait!

    7. I found bjds in Feb 09 and joined here a few days after. The first months I was just a lurker here, looking at the gallery, and learning a lot. Then I forced myself to stop obsessing over them for a few months, thinking I couldn't let myself spend that much money.

Then 8 months after I joined here, I started thinking about them again one weekend. The next monday I ordered my first doll.

    8. I got my first head at Christmastime as a gift from some friends xD
      Joined DoA a month later~

Though in terms of full dolls, I ordered my first boy 4 days ago xD

    9. If we go by the very first time I'd ever even heard of BJDs to when I first bought one, it was a little less than a year, which was quite a stretch, as the first time I ever saw one I didn't understand what it was all about (both online and in life). It took me six months (from seeing my first BJD online nearly four months previous) to really get into the hobby and understand what was so great about it all. Another two months or so was spent looking for a doll and drooling over others. And three months for him to arrive!

    10. i spent a lot of time around my friend and her dolls, and it took me about 6 months to decide that im determined to get one, once i find the money. :P

    11. I first learned about BJDs at around 2004 when I lurked at a fashion doll site and they'd have posts about similar-sized BJDs. It took 5 years before I finally gave in and bought my own. I've had my doll for 2 days before I finally joined DoA.

    12. I 'found out' about them in highschool...I think I was in my Sophomore year. But at that age, I didn't have the money at all. ($500 just seems like a mountain when you're jobless at 15.) So I pushed the thought aside for years...because I didn't want to be so tempted by something I couldn't have. Then the interest arose again in college....My senior year. So quite a jump! But by then I had the cash, and was about to be finished with school so I thought 'why not?! A few more years and I'm going to have way too may financial responsibilities.' So I didnt want to miss my chance. Once I decided that it was 'time' to think about buying some lovely resin dolls, I researched for about 6months and finally figured out what I really wanted. Now I have a bodiless puki faceplate I couldnt pass up, and a littlefee ante on the way home. (With about 3 more tiny bjds and 4 more pukis planned before I run into the big 'real life' expenses like a house/ family) ^_^

    13. six months...

i join DOA after i got my first doll from peakswood

      ^O^

    14. I think I waited about two years before I got my first doll. I joined Doa because I thought it would be easier to sell him here rather than in ebay, should I regret buying him. I never did. I have 7 more now and he is still perfect :) <3

    15. I discovered what BJDs were through Internet search in the start of 2008, got my first boy in 2009. Few days later I joined DoA. So, it was about 1 year long before I gave in :)

    16. I found out about BJDs around the end of November 2005... then joined DoA at the beginning of December the same year, and ordered my first boy perhaps two weeks after that? He arrived in mid-January '06, so I was doll-less on DoA for perhaps a month and a half in total :)

    17. When I joined here is when I started seriously looking for one =D
I joined in September 2009, and got my first head in January 2010 =3
And I was really~ active XD
Right now not as much since I cannot seem to find any threads to talk in and I'm not the kind to go in the gallery xP

Before all this I had already seen a BJD, but never really thought about seriously getting one... I don't even remember when was the first time I ever saw one xP

    18. Saw my first BJD then bought one about 3 months later.
I bought my BJDs before joining DOA (big mistake) new very little when I first purchased

    19. I've known about them and liked them for about four years before I finally ordered one at the end of January.

I have been active in the community since January, and I am still waiting on my three dolls to get here (Bobobie 1/4 girl Mei and two OT dolls).

      Phil.

    20. I learned about the dolls in 2009. I saw the first of March LUTS kid-delf Ani and fell in love with her. May 14, she arrived. I'm still happy and have no doubt that it is the best. Price does not frighten me. For me it is worth grazdo more!
While I had been saving some money, I am actively corresponded with people of interest. I read the forum. Sama wrote. Not on this forum. On "Angel ..." I went recently. I do not know much English.
