1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I actually held out for quite some time, haha~

I first found out about them in late 2004, early 2005 ... if memory serves me correctly. I was turned off by the price, being a student about to go into college ((and consequently piles of debt, haha)). I always figured they were 'out of my reach', but I piiined after them nonetheless. Then I kind of forgot about them for a few years until my girlfriend got interested in 2009, and after a while of prodding at me to get one with her, I finally did.

      And never looked baaaack~! *pose*

I joined DoA after I ordered my first doll and was doll-less for about three months or so, I think. It was hard, but I tried to stay active.

    2. First found out about them in 2006. I got the creepy effect, so I wouldn't exactly call it holding out.... I have no idea when the turning point is, but I got my first doll in 2009.

I actually found out about DoA only after I got my doll. I was looking for information on how to take care of her.

    3. I first saw them surfing the web one night WAY Back in 2002-2003 (I feels old >.<) but i am not the type to spend money on myself, let alone that much so i told myself they were nice but I would never get one as they were far beyond my means... its only within the last year and a half that i finally told myself I could get one.. i didn't join Den of angels right away cause I had heard some bad things about the site but at long last I came I saw and decided that MOST of the site isn't so bad after all. When taxes get here I should be getting my doll.. yay

    4. I fell in love with my first doll in 2006, but got scared by the price, I finally decided to bring him home in 2009 (I was already working then), so it took me 3 years to come to a decision.

I join DoA immediately after ordering my doll and became a lurker, but before purchasing him and joining the forum, I was already doing my own personal research about BJDs in the internet (Google FTW!).

    5. I think it took me a month or two from discovering bjd to actually hitting the "Buy" button on one, and I looked at EVERYTHING out there (okay it wasn't nearly as much then) before deciding which to start with. Their price seemed so intimidating, they were hard to get, I had no idea what "resin" was... but I was ready for something new and different so I finally took the plunge. I haven't regretted it! ^_^

    6. It was a good few years before I caved. (I think something like three.)
      I joined the site in 2006 and got further into dolls, and then got my first in 2008. And not even a year later came the second, hah :];

    7. I can't remember if I already replied to this but... it took me years before I actually caved in and purchased one. About 6-7 years maybe. Yeah, I had will power before but it was also because I didn't have any money then. xD Now that I do I tend to purchase dolls on an almost regular basis. ><; I'm almost broke!

    8. I was around 12/13 when I discovered BJDs (been so long I can't remember anymore), and I wanted one IMMEDIATELY. Buuuuut, being one of four children, I wasn't simply 'granted' a doll, so the saving commenced.

I spent the next three years mulling over which doll to get, and babysitting demon-children. FINALLY, sometime before my 16th birthday I ordered my first boy.

    9. A month? When I discovered ABJDs I didn't want one right away, but I had just graduated and my father asked what I wanted as a graduation present. Back then I thought of ABJDs as too expensive to buy for myself, but I wouldn't mind getting one as a present. I figured my father would say no, but I could always ask and he said it was okay which surprised me. Then I spent two weeks figuring out which one I wanted with my dad constantly asking if I had already picked one and if he could send me the money. I rushed picking my first doll, but don't regret my choice. :)
In short, one month between discovery and the decision to get one and I ordered my first doll two weeks after that. I'm pretty lucky and think that if I didn't get my first doll as a present I might still think ABJDs are too expensive to buy for myself.

    10. lets see...i first saw a bjd 5 years ago at a anime con and started googling to try and find out what they were~ but i didnt purchase my first doll till last year...but i was only looking into them about 1 month to actually purchase lol.

    11. Hehe, mine was only a month, cause I happened to have been saving for an unknown reason. I WAS a saver. Now I ..... am a BJDer. However I have very few dolls, I don't give in easily.

    12. joined a little while ago (January) and i don't have a doll yet but am VERY close to it!! Hold on Sebastian! You'll be ordered soon!

    13. I joined at the begining of January (i think)
And I'm still doll-less (probably 'cos of my stupidly hard to find Doll Lusting)

I've been browsing BJDs for a good 2 maybe 3 years now, and I'm still empty handed.
I do hope to change that soon though, Hopefully once I gain marketplace Access
      ~laugh~

    14. I make cloth dolls and am interested in dolls in general, so I had seen them around on DeviantArt for quite a while and remember doing some research once and being like 'homgwtf' when I saw the price of not only the dolls, but also clothes and accessories. That was quite a while ago and it initially put me off. But just before Christmas I came across Luts, saw my Honey Delf, and was happily surprised at how affordable she was. I ordered her after about a month of staring at her pictures on the website all day :XD: I joined DoA just after she arrived I think. I LOVES HER!! :D

    15. I don't honestly recall...but as little time as I could manage considering
      a) I had to find out what they were
      b) where to find them
and c) convince my husband that I wasn't crazy for spending that much money on a doll. ^_~

I had absolutely no information on BJDs when I saw my first one, but I knew in an instant that they were perfect for me. I was going to get one. Hehe.

As for DoA...it was probably a year to a year and a half after I got my first girl before I joined.

    16. Five years! It wasn't a case of giving in/not giving in though. As a teenager I wasn't even close to being able to afford even the smaller dolls, and it wasn't until I moved to Japan and got a scholarship that I was finally in a position to buy one.

As for DoA, I joined a month or so before I ordered my first doll, while I was doing research in preparation.

    17. 5 years. I knew of them in 2000 and was with the whole 1/6th articulated movement as well. I just couldn't justify the cost at the time either. I bought my first in 2005 and took my time to join DOA.

    18. I'm pretty sure the day I joined DoA is the same day I discovered BJDs, because the person who showed me BJDs also showed me the forum when I inquired to know more. The first doll I saw was an El, the first doll I fell in love with was an El, and in May 2006 my first doll was an El and continues to be my favourite doll. It was pretty exciting, but it took me about 5 or so months to save for him after finding out the hobby existed.

Now there are so many different BJDs... I can't keep up! I can only imagine how overwhelming it must be to someone who became interested in BJDs recently.

    19. Just a month after I discovered them I had one at home, and I've never been a doll-less Doa'er becaus I joined DoA after I got my first doll.. :)

    20. I bought my first doll secondhand from a friend... And right after I paid I ended up joining DoA. I think it was literally within five minutes of paying for the doll too!
