It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. My first exposure to BJDs was at anime conventions. I've been an avid cosplayer since 2006, and my first time at Anime Central I had to ask one of my more experienced con buddies about the dolls some people were carrying around. At the time, I thought they were a little creepy. Then, one of my online friends started spamming me with pictures of her MSD, and I found out that a friend's sister was in possession of a DragonDoll. I joined DoA, spent a few months agonizing over whether I could afford to buy a doll or not, and eventually caved and ordered my Soulkid through DDE. Not long after, I ran across a beautiful MNM head on the marketplace and bought her. I haven't been able to increase my resin family since, so right now all I have is the one doll and a floating head.

I guess the short answer to the question is that I first saw a BJD 4 years ago, but it only took me 2 or 3 months from joining DoA to order my first dolly.

    2. The night I stumbles upon Lati, I brought my first doll, Lati Red K XD

    3. I knew about BJDs a couple of months before I ordered one, but I began plotting at first sight :) and I joined the forum after that.

    4. I first saw a bjd in 2005 I think, then found DoA (about two years ago) but only joined recently, and ordered my first resin doll in January 2010, which quickly followed with an order for second doll in February (I'm still waiting for them!). So it looks like it took me 5 years... Which is probably a good thing for my bank account :D

    5. I was first introduced to bjds in the beginning of 2008 and started saving for one almost right away. It look me until the end of the year to join DOA and it wasn't until last June that I finally got my first doll (yeah, being a broke college student sucks)

    6. I think it was in 2008--which is when I found out about DoA & made a profile here. I just found/went to my first BJD meetup last month, though. Seeing them in person pushed me "over the edge", so to speak, & now I'm for-real saving $$$ to put my first boy on layaway.

I was already planning on selling my guitar & some other dolls I had, so I just decided I would put the money from that towards my doll. :)

    7. Well I've known about BJDs for years, but I grew up in a family where I didn't have extra spending money, so they were never really an option for me. I just stared at them online all the time.

      I bought my first at Anime Central last year in the Dealer's Hall. It was also the first time I'd been able to see a BJD in real life AND I had an artist alley table. I caved when i realized I made more than enough at the convention to buy myself a Resin Soul An. XD I joined DoA a day after I got my first doll, and then I was doomed. After that, my next was bought second hand at a meet last summer, and now I'm caving in faster with the realization of credit cards and how much I'm making off of my art commissions. @_____@;;

    8. When I found out about BJDs, I did a bit of research and came across DoA. I know that I was a member of DoA when my doll arrived, but I'm not sure whether I ordered him first or joined first; both happened in June 2009. I wasn't active on DoA for my first month because I was away from home that June. I ordered my second March 6th, 2010~

    9. Two weeks, it only took two weeks to give in once I'd seen photos of bjds. Joined DoA right after I ordered my first doll and have tried to be active from the very beginning.

    10. I'm still doll less T.T but i'm currently saving for it. I discovered about BJDs for about 4 years ago(2006). My friend introduced them to me. Before, I don't really agree with the price so i restrained myself for buying such a doll worth hundreds of dollars. But eventually, the BJD pictures attracted me and i've decided to save one for myself :D

    11. I started looking into this hobby maayybbee 1-2 years ago. I had a customer at work tell me how her daughter was into anime and had purchased a Dollfie. I was curious and went to look it up and I was amazed! I started looking more and more into and was just mystified by all the things that you could buy these dolls and how they were so customizable. After long debates with myself I finally saved up and bought one. I was then recently invited to DOA and now am an avid fan :3

    12. as soon as I got the chance I got one, i think it was about 2 weeks when I found the difference and bought Clover
now she is on her way
she has a month to get here
(I wanna have her for the meet I am going to in May)
its second hand so should be a bit faster (and from the US) lol

    13. It was either 2005 or 2006 that I first saw them. And the first impression they had on me was that they were beautiful! Then I learned that you could change the eyes, wigs, parts/etc. That made me want to buy one for myself. I was a lot younger then and had no way to earn the money myself (or more like the dedication) and I don't know if I'd be taking care of one that well either. So I lost hope, and the thought of getting one went to the back of my mind.

I'm also a cosplayer, and my friend was wanting to do some sort of BJD cosplay--so she showed me a site, 'cause she wanted me to coslpay with her too (this was last month). And my want for the BJD resurfaced and I think that her asking me to cosplay with her, and making me check the site gave me that boost of confidence to order one. So for about a month I did research and the like and ended up ordering 3 to 4 weeks ago.

I'm doll-less at the moment, but that'll change in a couple months time when he comes home. ^-^

    14. I have known about BJDs for a couple of years now. I am a member of Flickr and often saw these beautiful dolls appear from time to time and I was always in awe of them.
I finally decided to have one during November 2008, ordered one just a month later and joined DOA around that same time and I received my boy last week (March 2010). He is actually my birthday present from my husband :-)

    15. I was first introduced in maybe 2007/8 (not sure) when my best friend got one. I'd had no idea what was going on and couldn't fathom spending that much on a doll ("Sure, he's pretty, but y'know, I wouldn't really want one..." --hahahaha. Ha.). I knitted him a pair of tiny armwarmers and promptly forgot about it until we roomed together my first year of college and I found myself LIVING with him.

They kind of grew on me. XD;; But I didn't have money, so I just joined DoA and lusted after all the pretties.... and then I kind of stopped coming to DoA for a while, since I didn't have one of my own and I didn't feel, well "qualified" to respond to many of the threads.
Of course, now I've finally ordered my first so I'm trying to become more active~!
What does that make that, about a year or so to finally give in?

    16. I first found out about them around 2004 and got to see my first one in person that same year.
Only company I knew about was Volks at the time, and I only knew them as "Dollfie", not BJD.
I was scared away by the price and forgot about them for a couple years. Then I saw one again at a craft fair in Orlando. A girl had one on her shoulder- I remember she was dressed in a lovely kimono. So I checked them out again.
      Still too expensive.
Sometime 2008-2009, a friend of mine got her first doll and reintroduced me to the doll world. She told me to join DoA and after a bit, I did. I searched and searched, but found no doll that really grabbed my interest enough to buy.
Until I came across Dollmore's Suntan Pado. It took me a few months of saving, whining to my boyfriend, and pining before I was able to finally bring him home. And I've been hooked ever since. The fact that I actually have a job now helps too, haha.
So I was a doll-less DoA member for a few months (joined Sep., ordered and had my boy arrive in Feb.), but I was fairly active. Not as much as I am now, but I tried to make it a point to post where I could.

So yes, it took a few years, but the hobby finally got me xD

    17. It went like this: I stumbled upon Aimee's website years ago and I remember being fascinated by the dolls and horrified by their prices :P.
I forgot about them for about a year, then i found the website again. My interest grew stronger and one year later I bought my first (and last) SD :)

    18. Just a quick version:
in '06 friend shows me luts dolls but they were way expensive so I ignored them. One year later I see dollzone msds (mo in particular) and fell in love. Joined DoA soon after, waited 3 months for my birthday and graduation money and I got my first doll <3

    19. I liked to watch doll pics here and read discussions, and I sort of thought the idea of having doll without believing that would never happen really... But then came Fairyland´s Littlefee in end of 2008 and I was hooked for real. I resisted it bravely until march 2009, and the rest is history... ;D And now I have such a huge doll family already - this time last year I was so sure that Ante would be my one and only doll I ever buy... Little did I know! ;D

    20. the first time i ever had knowledge about BJDs was 2008, august when my friend got her first doll. it was a DZ hid, she brought him to school. at first she was like, "OMG MY DOLL ARRIVED<3" or smth like that, and i was like, "ok... doll... meh >w>" my other friends were crowding around her to look at him out of curiosity, i was the one showing the least interest since i just sat at one corner instead of going over to look. i had no idea how much they costed then. :sweat

during 2009 jan the same friend with the DZ hid showed me photos of some other dolls on the net. she showed me the DZ site and i saw floy, i started to get a little more interested. but i saw the price and went, "OMG WT--, I SWEAR I'M NEVER GONNA GET ONE OF THESE THINGS OR I'D BE A CRAZY ASS! THEY ARE TOO EX!" in my head. but i still browsed through photos of these dolls and just enjoyed what others had but had no intentions on getting one though XD

and finally, 2009, around late march my friend drew a random guy and i totally feel in love with the drawing. i hugged it whenever i could, YEAH D8 then she told me there was a doll that looked like the dude in the drawing, she gave me the link to the site... and i totally feel in love with the boy.:) HE'S A VERY CUTE CHIWOO FROM LUTS BTW IF YOU'RE INTERESTED TO KNOW 8DDD so... i finally gave in and started saving up for my first boy 83~ i finally finished saving up for him around late october but only ordered him 1+ month later cause i had problems with the payment methods :| he arrived this year (jan 2010) <3
