1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I first found out about Super Dollfies around 2000, 2001. I've always been a doll girl, so it caught my attention. But it was in 2003, after my friend got a Hewitt, that I really got interested in them. But I told myself to wait until after I graduated, passed internship, and got a job to start this hobby-- saving money all the while.

Joined DOA in 2006, but I had lurked for some time prior to that and after. I didn't become really active until the end of 2007 when I got my first doll, MSD Ken.

    2. I found out in late 2006, and spent time researching brands and seeing friends dolls before I thought of purchasing. Last June I meant to purchase a Fairyland MiniFee Eliya, but was unable to do so. I just became a DoA member, and am still 'doll-less', however I will be ordering a Blue Fairy TF May soon!

    3. I'd seen pictures of the dolls years ago (like, 2005-ish?) but had no idea what they were; nor did I care.

Fast-forward to 2009, and I remembered them, was interested, and decided to research. I tooled around on the Internet for a while before finding Den of Angels, joined, researched my brains out, and after a short consideration fling with SoulDoll Chiron, fell in love with IOS Osiris and had him in my sweaty, eager little hands by February 2010.

I have a problem with liking and wanting expensive things.

    4. 7th or 8th grade I discovered BJDs and fell in love with them (but not the price).
Finally 9th grade (yesterday) I ordered my first doll.
I joined the site yesterday I think too so it's not even been 24 hours haha.

    5. I know about BJD about seven years ago, when I was at my last high school year: I fell in love for BlueFairy TinyFairy Emilie and Tommy, but I couldn't imagine to buy them, they were too expensive for me (moreover, at that time BF hadn't an international site)!
I bought my Sonoko (BF Emilie) for my university degree, six years after... That was a very long time for me ç_ç During this period I attended one italian community about BJD, but almost exclusively as lurker, because I haven't a doll, but was an important experience for learn many things about these dolls ^^

    6. I purchased my first doll around three months after I found out about them.
I joined DOA two months after that.
I bought my first DREAM DOLL four years after I first got into the hobby.

I have since sold the doll I first purchased. I wish I would have bought my dream doll when I first got into the hobby. Im more happier with her that I have been with any of my other dolls.

    7. It's been almost three years since I technically purchased my first ball jointed doll.

Oh, I'd known about them for a while but felt no particular urge to invest in one. Until that weekend three years ago...

I was at Afest with a friend who I'd known for a particularly long time. She confided in me that she was interested in purchasing a BJD, and dragged me to the doll panel they had that year. Sitting in the back, we could barely hear anything, but following that panel we found a vendor in the dealer's room who sold Obitsus.
Because this friend had purchased something for me that I needed for my cosplay, I offered to reimburse her for the price of an Obitsu body [1/6th scale]. By this, I had convinced my friend to use the Obitsu as a starter and get a feel for the hobby before dropping a couple hundred on something resin.

While she shopped, I felt the bug bite. On impulse, I bought an Obitsu for myself with the same line of logic: test drive with a 1/6th vinyl. About two months later I was shopping for a second Obitsu when I curiously started looking as MSDs. And I had to contact the same friend when I found that the Angel of Dream Chi looked exactly like an RP character I played with aforementioned friend. What's more, AoD's You looked exactly like her RP character. We both took the plunge into resin from there, unable to resist.
She still only has the one MSD [and a whole string of Obitsus], while my resin family recently expanded to 5.

I guess I have an addictive personality.

    8. Well, I found out about them aaaages ago, but I just joined in October. And, well... I ordered my first doll today. So since DoA started sucking me in, I was able to resist for.. *counts on fingers* 6 months? Wow, that's not too bad actually. (Feels way shorter.)

    9. The first time I actually found out about BJDs was maybe 4 or 5 years ago, when a friend of mine showed me photos of several dolls from deviantArt. I noticed that they were rather well made and quite detailed, but I didn't get that much into them just yet.

A couple of years later, I got hired into a company where one of the employees was pretty big on BJDs. She owned an SD-sized doll which she brought at times to the office and parked at her workstation. I found it a bit amusing how she interacted and even argued with her doll and thought it a tad odd, but soon I became acquainted with the two of them (her boyfriend later bought a doll of his own--in addition she's actually a member here, but I don't know her username).

A year after that, along comes keyblade_master and her SDC-sized doll Christopher. She got signed onto our company as well, and soon enough we became close friends. I got acquainted with Christopher and became more fascinated with BJDs and their intricacies, to the point of asking questions about them (what material they're made of, if they're strung from the inside like G.I. Joes, etc.). I even lugged Christopher around the office once and tried to scare one of the employees with him. The little guy was actually heavier than I thought.

More recently, a cosplayer friend of mine asked a few weeks ago if I could design a lolita costume for her group's upcoming photoshoot. Having had experience with BJDs I decided to look them up in more detail so I could see reference the costumes they wore, and so I found out about companies like Dream of Doll, Luts, Iple House, Dollmore, LeeKe World and several others.

It only took...what, two or three weeks after that? And now I'm saving up for a Kid Delf girl. XD

    10. I've known about bjd's since 2003, but the price made my head spin. I saved pictures, and told myself that someday I'd get one of 'those amazing dolls' Then in 2007 I bought my current two after a lot of saving :)

    11. I found out about BJD's about two years ago at my friends birthday party. She was waiting for her DOT Homme Ducan to arrive and one of her friends had lent her a doll to help ease the wait lol. I didn't think much of it untill I met the Ducan who was later named Rowan. I positivly loved him along with my other friends Doll Kira. I met them at around the same time and took probably over 100 pics of the two of them in one night ^^; Yeah I was a little insane. But after that I was determined to get a Doll of my own so after I got a job last summer I ended up throwing an entire paycheck into getting my Homme Kirill. He arrived in January this month and I've never been happier lol.

As for a member here, well I just signed on yesturday though I've known about DOA for a while now.

    12. Found out about them in 2003, and finally got my first one December 2006. During that time, I was not a member of DoA, but kept up with the forum whenever I remembered. I decided to join DoA to try it's Marketplace, since I couldn't get the doll I wanted any other way. But after I got him, I've become a more active member, even if I don't post all that much.

You meet a lot of cool people in this hobby. It's totally worth the time and effort. :)

    13. I've been in the "doll community" for quite sometime. I've been working for a toy company now for going on 5 years. I first saw BJD's in like 2004 when a friend of mine bought one and I just bought my first one.

    14. It took a while for me to purchase my first doll. But after countless encounters to dolls on websites, friends, I caved in eventually.

    15. I just found the hobby and joined DoA a little while ago, and am doll-less. I am an active poster across the board, partially to learn (and to help people in whatever ways I can at this point) and partially because I have a lot of free time and not much else to do. I won't be able to get my first BJD until the summer, but the reason is purely financial; if I was in a more stable situation right now, I am almost sure I would have ordered my first. This may turn out to be a good thing, though, as due to the forced wait I am discovering new dolls and getting new ideas for them.

    16. I found out in 2002, but I purchased my first doll the past year. SO, I've waited 7 years before to have my own dolls.

    17. well i didn't find out about them until about the beginning of this year through a friend. she showed me a few different sites and well, now i'm starting to save for one. originally i was going to save for a dream of doll as my first but given that it really won't happen anytime soon, i've shifted my sights towards something a little cheaper, a fairyland pukipuki.

    18. I didn't really realize it but I've known about them since 2005. I really wanted one but no one else around me knew about them and I had no idea what they were called so... that became moot. Then I went to college this year and ran across three friends who are BJD fanatics. XP I joined DOA in January of '10 and there's really not a way to be terribly active without a doll. I always felt awkward when I wanted to post on something because I didn't feel right since I didn't have a doll. *_*

However Crystal's here now. ^^ She arrived on April 14th, 2010 and is a Doll Zone Cherry and I love her very much. :aheartbea

So... yeah... it took me awhile XD

    19. I was seing BJD photographs on DA for some time. I gradually became interested in them, around February-March 2009 I started to look for some more information about them... and I was slowely sinking into the matter. After few further months I was sure, that I want a doll, but was struggling with myself about the price of such new hobby. In the meantime I found my dreamdoll, soo... I ordered him at the end of October. Around that time I also joined DoA, but I was more of a lurker type.
In the end... I wasn't fighting long...

    20. A whole year ^^ At first, I only saw them with my friends but wasn't actually quite interested. After a few months, I started researching about the dolls and was put off by their prices (I was saving up for a PS3 at that time). After a few more months, I decided to use my PS3 money for my first doll.
