1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I had known about BJD's for a while, and then I suddenly forgot about them ^^' (I was quite busy with school etc.) But then I suddenly remembered about these beautiful dolls and joined a swedish bjd forum, then it only took a few months before I had bought my first bjd.

    2. i took me 2 years before i got Erin

    3. Roughly a decade. I stumbled upon the Volks SDs when I was in middle school. :sweat

    4. I think 5 or so years? I found about Luts and DIM dolls first but the price scared me off. I was also young then, had my first job and just couldn't even think of spending that much money on anything, let alone a doll.

      I held out for years although I did admire them from afar, then when I was in Japan last summer I gave in thanks to some enabling from friendly doll people I met there and ended up ordering my Luts Lu-Wen. I was doll-less as a member up for a few months when he arrived. Now I have 2 dolls and a third on the way!

    5. I can't remember how long I've known about BJDs... several years for sure. I'm finally getting one (of my own) next month. One I bought for my girlfriend should be arriving soooon. The one I reeeeally want... is too expensive right now, but I think I'm gonna start saving for him, try to get him by the end of the year. But yeah, I went off the advice of someone here a while ago, that it's best to just keep on looking around until you find "the doll." And I've found him. I just gotta wait longer. xD;;

      I think I had a DoA account a while ago but couldn't find the login info (which is odd, I keep all that stuff in one place), so more recently re-signed up again. Been very lurky in the sewing/etc forum and I am soooo excited to be able to start sewing clothes for Orion soon. ^__^ And then Aster when he gets here. XD

    6. Took me seven years, mostly because of the price and all... And of course looking for the right one and the right accessories to go with it.

      During that time I hopped onto eluts to stare at their dolls nonstop while rationalizing with myself if I should get em or not. Then I gave in in february when I had more than enough money in my bank, so I wouldn't starve myself for the other things that I have starved myself over... xD

    7. I gave in today and it seems like so long I'm not entirely sure. It's been about four or five years for me. I used to lurk around this forum and finally joined so I could get full access to the content here, still don't post much though. I never got one because of things like price, space, animals, family. Now that I'm in the waiting rooms, I have to figure out how to deal with all of that. Which reminds me, I should have saved up a little more, I'm broke now.:doh

    8. Uh, I first saw the El on heise's deviantart gallery, found it intensly terrifying and immediatly backspaced. This was in '08...few months later I went back for a gander around that gallery and decided to actually click the link provided in the description box for her El's photograph, found eluts...by some chance happened across Redemtion the Moon fullset. He was ordered by the end of that week, I was on DoA not long after that ^^;

      Totally worth the money, IMO. He's sat by me now, still the most spoilt of my dolls, argueably still the most beautifull of them.

    9. Well... I found out about BJDs in 2005 when I went to my first anime convention, Animazement, in North Carolina. It's muffin's fault that I'm even here. :p At the time, I knew they were a little too expensive and I just kind of forgot about them. About a year later, I started thinking about them again. That's when I joined DoA. Did some research and lurked mostly. Another year after that is when I ordered my first doll, Seth (BF TF Niky). I was okay for about 5 months and then I got my 2nd doll... It's been downhill from there. :sweat (glances at Doll Family in profile sheephishly) I'm really trying to slow down. Really! XD

    10. It was about 14 months ago that I first saw a BJD. I was writing a Dark Knight fanfic and typed 'pierrot' into google images for make-up ideas and Iplehouse Tatiana came up (the Iplehouse version). I thought it was a real person at first!! After doing a bit of research I found the price and felt a bit gutted but brushed it off because there was no way I could justify spending that on a doll.

      Six months passed and BJDs kept popping up, mainly on deviant art and after finding out more about what people actually did with their dolls I joined the forum and got properly into it in October. My first doll came in November but I was fairly active in that time although no where near as active as I am now. So in total I lasted about 8 months. Not too bad haha.

    11. While I'd been interested in BJDs for a bit over a year (a friend in my fashion doll club would always bring them), I was intimidated by the fact that you had to buy them nude, choose a face up, clothing, etc. I finally found an off topic fully dressed BJD at the IFDC show here in Atlanta last year. Then I saw a post on ZOZ with lots of pictures of Hypermaniac's Ishta - I loved her face - and purchased her.

    12. My friend has been been talking about BJDs for about two years. I thought that they were pretty but waaay too much money. Unfortunately for my wallet about a month ago she came up with the idea for pocket ninjas. T_T She sent me a link for Fairyland pukipukis and I had to have one. I'm currently saving for a pukipuki Darjeeling and I joined DoA a few days ago.

    13. I found BJDs about a decade ago... While I was High School. I wasn't terribly interested in them. I really started looking at them about when I got into college. Now I'm finally deciding what to purchase because I have the money. Anyway.. I'll give into actually getting one this month. That is my goal.

    14. I found out from some cosplay buddies of mine about a year or more ago since they started posting pictures of their dolls in our cosplay community forum in the hobby section. After having the boyfriend move in I had to dump all my cosplay stuff, which made me realize I probably would never dress up again. This had me (sort of desperately) looking for a space to fill that hobby niche and I joined DOA. After joining it took me I think three months to find the doll I was looking for.

    15. Being a lifetime doll collector I found out about them early on...I think it was Volks I saw first. After gasping at the prices I put them out of my head. In 2006 I found Obitsu's and bought a 60cm Obitsu girl, then 2 more Obitsu Girl's then last summer Jenthered asked me to join her BJD group..I was hooked.. I bought my first resin kid before Christmas then joined DoA. I am still on a budget but I have found some reasonable dolls to buy and I am saving for Lusion Dahlia!

    16. Seven years. o.o I kept liking and loving dolls that were either limited, or that i lost passion for, but when i saw JID Tatiana, it just *clicked* that she was the best choice for the character i had in mind.

    17. Well, I discovered them about two years ago, although it feels like just last month. I ordered my first doll early april, so I've also gone about two years without one... I was and still am more of a lurker, but I try to be active...

    18. I first learned about BJDs about two years ago through the doll photography on dA...then this year I started to really research them. For that time that I was doll-less, I hadn't bought a doll because I didn't find one that I automatically fell in love with, you know? And I didn't want to regret spending so much money on a doll if the idea of selling it later came to mind. Then, I saw the Migidoll Ryu sculpt and automatically ordered him, no questions asked. It worked out beautifully, too, because I discovered him at the time that Migi's order period was open. And I'm still SO glad I waited all this time for the 'perfect doll', because I couldn't possibly be more excited. <3

      I just joined the website a couple of months ago and I guess you could say I've been doll-less for 95% of my duration here. I have been really shy because I don't have my doll just yet, so I feel almost out of place right now. But I absolutely love looking around, especially at threads with doll pictures, haha.

    19. I vaguely recall seeing pictures of bjds years ago in some liturature about doll sculpting. After that passed I didn't think about them again until I was introduced to some other fashion dolls and started seeing pictures of the bjds again in forum avatars and on websites selling doll accoutrements. That was last summer and about two months ago I decided I needed a mnf shiwoo. No other head sculpt really spoke to me. I joined here about two weeks ago, but am still doll-less and probably will be for a while.

    20. Uhhh.. a few days XD I told myself I wouldnt get any, cause they are expensive!! But I kept looking at their pictures, I guess that's what did me in, lols! I searched for more info on these beauties and stumbled upon this wonderful place! I'm a pretty active member while waiting for my first doll here~
