1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I've known BJDs since 2006. I went crazy about them and started to save money... but the thought of being caught by my country's customs (and I probably will as soon as I order a new BJD) and paying the value of another doll in taxes made me give up until I had completely forgotten about dolls. Only in 2009 I started collecting pullips (and this time not really interested BJDs) and now I'm finally beaten. Bought a second hand DoC from a friend and soon will buy my first fresh new girl. :P

    2. Hhhmmm, let's see, I'd say I first saw them around 2005/6, in beautiful photographs on the internet. I assumed they were art dolls and one offs at that. Then I gradually became more aware of them and I ahve to say I was not really interested until I saw the first Val Zeitler/Haute Doll collaboration, whenever that was. I don't read doll magazines and here in the UK we don't really have them on the newstands, I just saw a pic on the internet and went to investigate. PW Skiya - It was LOVE!!! Couldn't get that doll out of my head and she led me down a slippery path of destitution and doll collecting ever since... now I'm broke, but happy!

Joined DOA last summer because every time I google something to do with BJDs the answer would always come up on this forum, just lurked for about 6 months pretty much though ;)

    3. Uh... five years. I discovered them when I was twelve. A massively misinformed friend of mine said they could "Move on their own" being a huge robot-fanatic I had to look into it. I discovered that she had been watching stop-motion animations, thus her impression. I became fascinated by them because of how beautiful and realistic they were. I tried to convince a friend of mine to save up for one with me jointly, but it didn't pan out. So I waited and occasionally surfed pictures of them sighing that I could never own one.

Then I met someone who did have one, and I decided if I tried hard enough it would be possible. I saved for six months and was finally able to get my little boy, Ainsly. Once he was home my mom didn't think the doll thing was so foolish, because she loves him too.

    4. I know all about that! My mom thought I was crazy to spend so much. But I kept reminding her it was my money and she eventually caved. Now she loves Ainsly, and helps me make clothes for him!

    5. I think I first saw BJD's around 2006 and I'm pretty sure it was Volks I saw.
It's really hard to remember. I ordered my first one in October 2009 and found DoA a month or so later and joined.

    6. There was a gap of approximately two years between I found out about BJDS and I made up my mind to buy one ^__^ And I've joined DoA the same month I've received my doll.

    7. Found out about them sometime in 2008. At that time I was still in highschool and did not have a steady job. I am now in college and I have a job over the summer and when I get back to school. I am hoping to get my first doll, a bobobie sprite, once I go back to college in August.

    8. Sometime in middle school, I first discovered BJDs in a dA artist's gallery, which she kindly had a link to the site where she purchased her doll (DoD). I'd fallen in love with the Twing-key and Si sculpt since then. X3
Took me 3 years to convince my mom to buy one for me... by then, I was at the end of my freshman year in high school. I think I joined DoA after I got my first doll, or around the time I ordered her. ^^;;; Don't quite remember, hehe.

    9. I know BJD's since 2009/2010.
I buyed my DZ Megi in May. I just fall in love with him *lol*

    10. I've kind of known about them about as long as my sister has. I remember her always talking to me about how she kind of wanted to buy a BJD, but wasn't sure if she should and the different reasons she should or shouldn't. She recently got her first doll a few months ago, and all the while she would show me pictures and stuff. I was thinking of getting her something for her doll for her birthday and while I was looking at the site... something just clicked. I was looking at FairyLand dolls and fell in love with them! Next thing I know I'm talking to my sis about how I want to save up to buy one too, what she would look like, how much I need to save, etc.

    11. I knew about them for quite a while but had only seen sculpts I didn't like much. So they weren't really attractive to me for a while. But when Meike, also a member here, started blogging about them on her craft-site, I gained (some) interest. When I looked at them a little while later I decided to look into them more and found Lati-yellow dolls, those really spoke to me. That's when I joined DoA. Meike and I spoke about my interest and she pointed me in the direction of the Fairyland dolls and I saw pictures of her Pukifee Bonnie, Darcy, on Flickr. I knew a Pukifee was what I needed (especially because of the body, much neater joints than Lati Yellow!). I asked her all my questions about them and in the end I joined DoA.

It took a little while though before I ordered my Pukifee Bonnie, because I didn't know which sculpt I wanted. But now I already have a couple of other dolls on my wishlist - even big dolls, though the first thing I screamed when getting into this hobby was that I'd only ever get tinies. But now I have an SD-sized doll on my wishlist, and also an MSD-sized one... hehe :)

    12. I fell in love with BJD's at the anime convention I was at, and I wanted one so badly, but I'm the type that over thinks things. So I'd look at them and dream. That was four years ago... and now, I'm finally giving in. I am still dolless but not for too much longer. I'll be ordering my first doll here, probably within the next week or so, and I've been on DoA for two, maybe three weeks. I wanted to wait until I was closer to getting my doll before I joined, and I have found the forums really helpful as well. But four years of procrastination... it shocked my husband to no end, he was thinking that it was only a passing thing, until he really listened to me yesterday and found out...

    13. I first got into BJDs when I was about 15..I think it was right before my sixteenth birthday, actually.

I got a low cost Volks doll..just a little anime looking one. I still have her, but she's still unfinished. No face up..no eyes..no wig..no clothes. :( I could never get anything right, so I packed her away.

I recently got her back out and realized that I really did have enough passion to keep this hobby going for me. I just needed dolls that I actually FELT for..not just a shell that I didn't feel had any character.

I guess it was just a matter of finding dolls that spoke to me. It took THIS long. Finally, after five years I ordered my first two boys. I got my anthro earlier, but I don't particularly count her since I am focusing more on humans. XD

    14. I first saw photos of a modern ABJD on the internet in about... 2001, I think. And I thought, "Uh oh. I want one." I kept trying to ignore them and not cave in, and it was about 2008 when, prompted by Ayulsa, I finally couldn't think of a good enough excuse not to get one.

    15. I had known about BJDs for about 6-7 years...mainly because of a good friend of mine. Yes...its all her fault. ;) I bought a couple of dollfies at first, knowing that the price range of the larger bjd's were way out of my range at that time. My financial situation changed, and I purchased my first BJD in November 2009.

    16. So close, I can taste it, but I'm going on 4yrs

    17. About a little less than a year. And another year before I ordered my first Dollfie Dream (Still waiting on her~ <3)

    18. I've known about BJDs since I was eleven and I'm fifteen, and have finally gotten more real about saving up for one. To me, it seemed when I was younger about as realistic as saving up for a car. -__- Lol, age 9 and younger I didn't even have my own place to live, so a luxury item like this was laughably out of the question. Now, though, I have a house and a steady source of income and food and my life is stable, so I can finally start saving. ^__^ I want to order Resinsoul Ni before November. :3 I certainly hope, whenever I am able to get her, that I don't end up getting her around Christmas. T__T It's not OK to get something for yourself around CHRISTMAS. That's when you give other people nice things. :D

    19. I've known of them for a good few years, but not reallly had an interest until probably a year ago. I've only been a DoA member for a few days, admittedly not too active, but already have my first doll hopefully lined up (Soom Aren).
It started with Barbies, I still have them all (though at 18yrs, not the world's greatest achievement).

I came across Enchanted Doll, mildly off topic but stunning, and that kindled my interest. I suppose I've been researching them unknowingly this year, so even at this early stage, I'm glad to have joined up :). Everyone here is so wise and just knows what they are on with!

    20. I've known about BJDs since 2007 but never really looked into it much until last fall. I've been saving since the beginning of the summer and finally ordered my first boy last Friday. Until he comes I'm still doll-less but the wait is worth it.
