1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I've known of them for fifteen years. I was leafing through some magazine and found an article about them. It spoke mostly of VOLKS if memory serves, and I thought they were beautiful. I gave up on them because of the prices, though. About two or three years ago, I met people who had BJD, and the old fire started to burn again...

I bought my first one around a year ago, and I have veeeeerrrry slowly working on her. Mainly because of lack of time :D

    2. Hmmm... I first discovered BJDs about.... Call it six or seven months ago? I knew I wanted one right away, and began searching for my dream doll. I found him, and all that was left was to persuade the mother that I should get him. Because of the price (which is actually quite low for a BJD) and the fact that I needed to do the ordering through her Ebay account, I told her I would wait a few months "to make sure it wasn't just a momentary want."

So, last week, I pestered her until she gave in. XD I paid for him myself, though.

I will be a dollless owner on DOA for three months total. :)

    3. 6 years.

      >_>; mainly it was out of "can't afford" then "don't want to associate w/ one person i know that has em" then "forgot they existed", but I think ive made up for it now~ XD

    4. For me it was roughly three or four years before I bought one after seeing one for the first time. I've been a active member of DA for nearly two years (if my math is right, its usually wrong though ;D). I've only owned a doll for a year.

      -
The first time I saw one was at a Anime Convention in CA. The second time I saw one was actually a cosplay of Lahoo (Dream of Doll) with a link to the site. I didn't even take price into consideration. My husband had bought me a camera the year before I looked at him and said "I want one of those to take pictures of." He agreed and helped me sell all my entire collection of vintage games on Ebay. After getting the money it took me six months to pick the one for me, he arrived four months later and I haven't been disappointed yet. <3

    5. By 2008 I had a troop of Blythes, 4 Little Big Eyes and a Lino doll (Moof cousin) and haunted the "This is Blythe" site. I saw pictures of Blythe with this little munchkin who was way too cute for words (Lati Yellow). I resisted for about a month saying I would never go outside the Blythe world, but then gave right in and ordered a Lati yellow Coco and started waiting 3 months for her to arrive. During this time I found Doa and then found the Marketplace and and Aod mini Liu Yin. I bought her and she arrived way before Lati Coco. I have several minis and a 50cm (bbb Luna whom no one seems to love but me, going to get her a twin), several floating sd heads and several tinies (to pose with Blythe naturally). Actually, my poor Blythies don't get the attention they used to because I love bjds so much. I'm kind of stuck on BBB/resinsoul because they aren't as costly and you get to do so much with them (restringing, sueding, etc) that they are even more fun and they look amazing with a little work and they are so much more you by then. I will never get tired of bjds, they are the most amazing doll ever.

    6. I've heard about them since about three months ago. I'm just been waiting until I get my job since I finished school. Then I will rush to computer and get one!

    7. Well, I've known about BJDs for a long while. However, I never was into dolls, so I never really looked into them. As time passed, I would see more and more beautiful doll pictures posted on the various forums I frequent. So, maybe a month ago now, I decided to really look into them...

I've been active on the DoA even with being doll-less. However, I have some clothes, a wig, some eyes, and I am in a group order. Depending on how quickly the company can fill the group order, I hope to have my first doll in a month (or maybe a bit longer due to processing). :)

I'm also saving up for a second doll now! I really got "bitten" by the BJD bug hard..! But, I don't *think* I will end up with very many dolls. I am pretty picky, and I want to try to make clothes for the dolls I end up getting. I think I will have a lot of fun!

    8. I first discovered them... 10 months ago? I was browsing DA and came over some and fell head over heels. I did try to put it out of my mind for a few months because of the price and all, but I gave in and ordered my first one mid july ^^
and my second one 9 days after...
I'm trying to be an active member even while being doll-less.

    9. I've know about BJDs for a while, but honestly I had no real interest in them until I saw them in real life a couple of weeks ago. I caved after 9 days of researching. I was trying to make myself wait a month....epic fail there XD

    10. I remember toying with the idea of making a BJD of an original character, but didn't end up doing it since I hadn't really done any research on them. About two years later after doing some research, I got my first DD (not exactly a BJD depending on who you talk to, but I hope that counts). I didn't join DoA until just before I decided to purchase her.

    11. it took me two days to give in to the thought of actually getting one but it took me almost ten years to actually get one.

    12. I first discovered dolls sometime around 2004-2005ish when I was in high school. Promptly forgot about them until 2008-2009 when I saw some very gorgeous photos of a modded Romantic Dimo head on dA, though I can't remember her dA name for the life of me. :< I think it about two weeks or so before I joined, and spent about five months without a doll before getting one as a gift.

    13. 3 1/2 years from when I saw my first and got interested to when I got my first. ^^ Before I got my first doll thouh, I did enough research for 10 plus me. I constantly trolled Bjdcollectasy.com and LiveJournal. I didn't join DOA until just a while ago(almost a month), but I've had my dolls for about 2 years now.

    14. Honestly, when I first saw them at a anime convention, they creeped me out. They were so expensive I didn't see the need. But then I got into sewing Lolita clothes as a professional. But being large, I didn't have quite enough fabric to make my own clothes all the time. I wanted a doll to make clothes for. My frend is an avid collector and she pulled him out! He will someday be my little pouty J-Rock BJD -sparkle- so yeah... It took a few years

    15. I've known about BJD's for about 5 years I guess but life just didn't allow me to (okay, it wasn't life, it was my husband! LOL) take the plunge and make the purchase. I still haven't made the purchase, but I've started saving and I fully intend to join the ranks of BJD lovers!

    16. I`ve known about BJDs about 1 week before I ordered my first doll.) May be my decision was spontaneous, but I never regretted this!

    17. I learned about dolls in 2006, then half a year later I purchased my first. :'3

    18. I started collecting living dead dolls about two years ago. I have 8 of those and I was ready for something new- not to give up dolls but to find one thats really special. so about 6 months ago I started looking at pullips/dals and thats when I found bjd's- I thought they were amazing but knew I could NEVER own one because they are way overpriced and Im too down to earth to pay that much for a doll so I disreguarded it untill a few months ago when i found resinsoul dolls that I LOVED- I ordered my 27cm bei and I got her a month ago. I am now waiting till christmas for my rs gang. :)

    19. Hmm... I generally don't count the first time I actually saw BJDs - it was from a significant distance at an anime con, I knew nothing about them, couldn't see any details beyond "yup, it' s a doll of some type", heard they were hugely expensive, and then forgot about them entirely.

Soon after, a friend posted a picture of Lahoo from Dream of Doll online on her livejournal, and I was hooked. From there, I think it was only a week or two before I gave in and bought my first doll.

    20. I found out about dolls when I was 12, I think? -3 or so years ago-
I loved them, but forgot about them for a while. Then I became reobsessed and started learning as much as possible from random sites until DoA registration finally opened, and just joined recently. ^^
As far as being active...well, I'm on DoA browsing around every day for a few hours, maybe. But I almost never post since I've never actually had a doll.
I'm too afraid to buy a doll, because I really don't have the money to get into this hobby. I have about $1000 dollars saved now, but that took me a couple years x_x So I'm kind of wary of just spending it all instantly. And I don't want to be disappointed when I probably won't be able to get another doll...:C
Not to mention, since it's such a huge decision because I can probably only get one doll, I can't make up my mind xD
