1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. Oh wow.
I don't remember how long ago I found out about BJDs.
My guess is around high school - ish.
My friend brought her two dolls to school and I loved them, but yes, they were too expensive.
Fast forward, first year of college.
I finally caved in when my friends ended up buying their first dollies together.
So that's when I decided to get my own bluefairy. @__@

And then I joined DoA. Tada!

    2. 3 YEARS!!!

yeah thats it, but its been so long because i was too young :'( after my parents allowed me to buy one i started saving money and will buy my first in the next few days <3

    3. I knew of them since 2008, and my friend gave me one as a gift, but I still havent ordered one for myself. So I actually havent given in yet, but I am saving up for one, so I guess i have given in.........i dunno? lol

    4. It's not long ago I found out.
..but I don't think i'm gonna buy a doll soon

    5. Hahaha...about a few days after doing some extensive research.

    6. I've known about the dolls since Volks first released the 4 sisters. 2001 maybe? But I didn't get one untill 2005 because I didn't see one I liked til then. When I found her I got her that day. So I caved in about.......30 seconds?

    7. Mine varied intensely. I saw my first BJD in like.. 2004-5ish... didn't actually start looking at them until around 2006 and didn't get my first doll until 2008. I've had 6 since then, sold two kept the other four.

    8. when I first saw BJD's I knew I had to have one so....3 seconds XD...didnt take me long at all to give in theyre just so beautiful.

    9. I think I actually waited four years after finding out about bjds to actually get one.
I didn't join DOA until about three weeks after I ordered my first one :P

    10. I waited a year to buy my first but that was a spur of the moment type thing. Then I waited a month to buy my second and now two months till my third. Im going fast, but I want a big family.

    11. Hehe..
      I wasn't a doll person, so it was at least a good 5 years before I gave in. ^^;
I almost wish I would have ended up doing it sooner. lol.

    12. My sister introduced me to the dream of doll site and I feel in love with Si! I then found DOA, one month later I bought him now I'm still waiting so I'm still doll-less but hopefully not for much longer :)

    13. I found out about BJD's I think in April. I loved how they looked so I researched them more stumbling across Volks. Though I kept researching and eventually found some on dA.
When I watched someone there not too long ago they kindly pointed me here.
A week or so later. I gave in and I'm currently saving for my first doll :)

    14. I think I waited about 1 month and that time passed just because I was so busy searching and searching for that special doll that would be my first. I'm really glad with my choice though. :) I probably would have gotten one immediately if I had more money at the time. lol

    15. I've had a passing interest in them for a few years... as in, I knew about them (but mostly just about Volks xD), but I was very aware of the price tag and was kind of scared away by it, hahaha. Then mid-August of this year I all of a sudden -- and I can't even quite remember how, it was so strange and all happened so fast xD -- became obsessed... Now I have two dolls on the way xD

    16. I first found out about BJD's back in late 2008 I think, then found and joined DoA in the beginning of summer 2009. About four months after joining I ordered my first doll. :) During that time though, I did extensive amounts of research on them.

    17. I first found out about BJDs through a blog I read about Lolita fashion. It had three posts about it and I didn't really give it much of a second look. That was during the summer so it was about four months ago.

I remembered about them when I was thinking about my up and coming "omg I will be an ADULT" birthday this year. I thought what would be the one thing I would want if I could have anything. My first choice was a car but then I remembered the post about BJDs. That's when I decided that saving up to get myself a doll would be far more special to me than getting anything really big like a car or a trip to Hawaii. So I looked those posts back up, found this site through it, and lurked for several days before joining.

So, right now I am saving and currently doll-less. I guess my total time would be that two week period of thinking I did before deciding I would like one. Well, that two weeks and however long my saving goes. :)

    18. I put it off for about..maybe 4, 5 years? I came across them on deviantart, I believe, and I remember it was a Luts Delf Breakaway that really made me interested.. But, back then I was notorious for spontaneous obsessions and spending (still kind of am) but I kept telling myself, not yet. You're not ready for them yet. It could end up being a faze, and then what will you do?

Then, in march/april 2009, I came across them again, and decided I was finally mature enough, and that I had a plan. Characters I had had for years could be cast in resin dolls. And since I have had those characters for so long, I knew I probably wouldn't lose interest in them. I came across DOA again in May of that year and joined in June. By July I was in a split for my first doll body, and my second doll arrived before the first even had the head. So I was 'doll-less' for about a month?

Now, in less then a year, I have four full dolls, and plan on getting my twins for Christmas. A last seventh doll will hopefully come before next summer, and I'll only have to worry about accessories then x3

    19. It was two and a half years before I could finally even consider being able to get a BJD I saw my first BJD at a convention back in '08(He was so CUTE~ His name was Roy G. Biv and he was Rainbow themed with beautiful Rainbow Eyes) I fell in love with BJDs instantly! (Made it especially special 'cause I ordered him on my birthday~)
Umm...I'm currently what I think of as active on here >.> It's been... 2 months now without a doll on here, probably will be 3 by the time he arrives. I'd rather be an active member now and get advice and work on exactly to and NOT to do with my doll. This is the perfect resource for the people new to the hobby <3

    20. Oh, lord ... it's been ages. When did the Volks dolls come on the US market, the late 1990s? And I am just now seriously contemplating my first bjd. An early adopter I isn't.
