1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I think I gave in almost immediately when I saw my best friend's doll up close. But that was the actual decision to buy dolls, I think it took me a week to settle for one I actually wanted to bring home.

    2. I've been looking at BJDs for over a year, and I've tried saving for one.. But something always come up and I have to use the money D:

      I'm still doll-less :/
Saving for a DZ Aimi, and I currently have about.. 45USD x_x I'm hoping this time I won't have to take from my doll-money :/ Or it would take even longer time D:

    3. Hm, let's see...I found out about them in maybe mid-July of this year, watched lots of vids on Youtube about them and admired Luts dolls (my first faves..xD), and after countless Youtubers recommending joining DoA, I gave in and joined. I've pretty much been an active member since I got one, even though I didn't have a doll. I enjoyed researching and felt like I needed to before I got one, so I slowly saved up, and voila! I now have a doll (since a little more than a month ago) ^_^

    4. well i think the first doll I saw and was at a con but I'm not sure what year. I have been going to it for 9 years so far. I guess probably 5 or 6 years ago. I went throw times where I all most got A bjd twice but didn't get one till recently. I also was not a DoA member till after I had dolls.

    5. I held out for 7+ yrs before I made the plunge. Just recently I put a down payment on a doll. A good friend of mine who I've coveted these beautiful with for years finally got hers and I realized...I'm an adult, my birthday is soon. The responsible part of my brain said, "I can use her to help me expand my business products into BJD items". Win win!

    6. I learned about BJD in 2006 and became obsessed ever since. Its taken years for to get the courage (and money) together to decide to buy one. I'm planning on buying my first BJD in January.:sweat

    7. Many, many years. I found out about them through lolita so whenever they first showed up there!
I've been watching various websites since...uuuuh, I think since Dream of doll came out with Hoo Yu, Si and Wi.
I remember wanting one of the twin sets but wishing I could mix up the faces. Voila! years down the road they do it for me. XD
I bought Twin B and Tender Twing Key in early 2010. No idea how long I waited but many many years!

    8. I saw first BJD closely on autumn 2009 and it only took about month or two before I bought my first doll. So it really didn't took me long to gave in but I've never regret that decision. :)

    9. Ive known about them since I started collecting blythes in 2009 and I swore up and down I wasn't going to get sucked in. I finally ordered three this month. I have 3 more I really really really want and will then have to see how it goes after that!

    10. I don't remember how I found out about bjd's, but I saw a photo of an elfdoll Lydia and elfdoll hazy and I remember thinking OMG they are so realistic... And pricey. That was about 4-5 years ago. I lost interest after as I got busy with family and kids.
I joined DOA finally in sept after drooling over photos and wanting to learn more. Since than I've ordered two off topic dolls and a DZ nono and DH ordered me a timp for Xmas ^__^. Because of DOA I've discovered and fallen in love with tinies, whereas before I was only interested in the large EID sized. I'm hoping my next dolly is the JID leona! I figured if I started small and worked my way up the hit to our pockets wouldn't feel so bad.

    11. I got my first doll a little over a year after I found out about them (June of this year, actually) and then I've bought a few in a row since then... All second hand so far.

I was a doll-less inactive DoA member for almost that whole year, because I kind of fell away from the hobby when I knew I couldn't get one and I got laughed at for wanting one. <w<; But I came back in (I think) May with a vengeance apparently, because I've gotten three full dolls, three floating heads, and I have another one of each coming soon all bought in the past... six months? <w<; Vengeance! Bwahahahah

    12. Depending, I've known about them ("those customizable creepy-as-heck dolls") for like two years, but haven't ever pursued looking at them. No research, no looking at/for pictures, no knowledge, no nothing. I just have walked past gatherings at conventions and was like "woah, creepy." And never thought about them again.

But really, it was 10 minutes. You heard right, 10 minutes. Since I live in Denver, I visited the DDE shop out of pure curiosity (absolutely no intention to buy one, because I still thought they were creepy!), saw the 5StarElva they had in stock, and bought it after 10 minutes of staring and weighing my options.

I am even shocked at myself. It took me 10 minutes to go from "I don't know anything about them, they're creepy looking" to "I just bought a 244 dollar piece of plastic and look forward to it."

    13. It took me about 3 years to get my first doll.

    14. That's a great question! I first stumbled on them in a google search probably in 2005-2006 but thought they were way too big as I was more used to 6inch dolls :D then I saw them again on Devient art in early 2010 and was more impressed. Finally in the fall of 2010 I ordered my first doll a Zaoll dreaming luv :) I'm so happy I finally went for it!

    15. It took me 3 years after joining DoA to buy my first doll. At the time when I first saw bjds (and their price tag), I was saving my money for something much more important to me than a doll; buying my first place. :dance

I wasn't active when I was doll-less (still not very active now :sweat). How could I talk about bjds when I never own one before?

    16. More than six months I was thinking about buying a doll.
Once it became clear that I will buy a doll, I began to register in various communities in search of relevant information and interesting people.

    17. I discovered BJD's far before I found DoA. I admired them for about 2 years before joining DoA, and once I was a member I already had my first doll on the way!

    18. For me, it was a bit less than a year. I discovered BJDs while looking for Gothic Lolita clothes on Ebay, and was initially shocked by the price. The dolls I saw at first were mainly Volks LEs, though. I bought Pullips for about six months as a substitute. Then I thought that for all the money I'd spent on Pullips and similar dolls (around $2000), I could buy a BJD easily. I bought a few soon afterward. I didn't join DoA until shortly before I bought my first doll, though.

    19. It was quite a while before I finally decided I was interested in these dolls enough to actually get one. I had been shown them a few times through the years, but then my cousin got her first doll and they started popping up more. So, a little over 5 years? XD

Well, until my girls arrive from Soom, I'm still a doll-less member.

    20. As soon as I joined DoA, I started trying to figure out how I could save for a doll.
I've been decently active, but I feel guilty most of the time, since I do not have a doll of my own yet.
I've been worried that people will look at the things I say and get angry and tell me "how would you know!? You don't even have a doll!"
      Thankfully that hasn't happened!
