1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I think I've been aware of BJDs since 2009 or 2010 because of following a certain Tumblr user that posted (and still posts) them, but I didn't start thinking of buying one myself until the past three months, finally buying my first this month.

    2. I've known about BJDs for about a year before I got one but the first one that I liked, I didn't like enough to want. Aaaand then when I saw the one I wanted, it was less than a minute. xD I pretty much just saw it, quickly took a look at a couple of owner photos, stuck it in the cart, and bought it. Then I went "...did I just do that"? OTL

    3. Well technically I found out about them a year or more ago. I came across the Yoko DD looking for Yoko related items on ebay. And I was like wow, that's cool but wayyy too much. At some point last spring I decided to look into the DD yoko. Not in my price range lol. So I joined Dollfiedreams.com. I couldn't find a body to go with the head I got so I ended up getting a resin girl. Initially I was totally against the realistic looking resin girls...but now I prefer them over the DD. There more to choose from, better prices, and less worry about staining. Plus I don't really get nervous and feel like I'm gonna break my resin girls.

    4. I knew about BJD's towards the end of 2010. From the point of discovery, I knew I wanted one. I finally bought my first and second ones this year. I joined this site after I bought my dolls. :)

    5. i knew about DOA befor i actually ordered my first doll, but at that time it was still invite only.since i didn't know anyone else in the hobby i couldnt get a page. but almost as soon as i got my first doll DOA was no longer invite only. i had originally found out about bjds when i was 16 (im 21 now) and had researched them until the moment i bought my first one.

    6. I knew about BJDs for a little over a year before I found and joined DoA
after joining is when I started saving for my girl and I just recently bought her
but even doll-less I was a decently active member of the forum (I think) and I went to a meet and had a lot of fun ^^

    7. I've known dolls since early 2004 I believe... I ordered my first doll mid-2011 so that makes seven years until I finally caved in.
I became a member of DoA a good while after I got my boy however, since registration was closed thus I was never a doll-less member of the forum.

    8. When I started collecting Pullips at the beginning of 2010 I joined a dolls forum and found out about BJDs, Pukifees to be exact. And I knew I just had to have one, the one with the sad face. I found out she was the Luna sculpt but she was a bit expensive in my eyes. So it took me two years to finally order her... Two years!!! But she was so worth it that I started to order more and more dolls this year. I have not been a doll less DoA member for a single day though, I joined after my first doll had arrived.

    9. I believe I saw my first BJD back in January or so of this year. It didn't especially catch my eye. Then in June I saw some more while stalking DA and started to get interested. An "otaku encyclopedia" book I was reading at the time had an article on BJDS, especially Volks. The price kinda got me when I checked out their website. Next I got a book on BJDS and learned of other manufacturers. After finding Iplehouse I truly fell in love. About October I started saving, and I'm planning to make my first purchase (a practice doll before I get my Iple grail). So about a year.

Edit: I need to be more active, even as a dolless member. I joined primarily for the info, and for marketplace, but I'm such a lurker it's ridiculous.

    10. I discovered BJDs back in late 2008, and got my first doll around christmas 2009. So about a year, I guess. But it wasn't as much me finally giving into the hobby as it was me finally getting around to save up the money needed to buy a BJD.

    11. I had agreed to taking care of my sisteres three pulip dolls. Mainly because i was practicing my sewing skillz for her in making a kimono for one of the dolls. Anywhoo I had a friend tell me about her wanting to sell a BJD that she just couldn't seem to connect to.. I was looking at the pulip dolls and they didn't apeal to me like, to doll like. But then i accepted my friends doll and with a discount i bought it. Then i realized i was compleatly hooked.

    12. I found out about dolls (fortunately I didn't even know what they were called back then) in 2005-06? I spent some years until I actually found out they are known as BJD in early 2008. But the price kinda make me want to rob the bank back then. I spent about 2 years saving before I got myself a Taeyang in 2010 and finally had enough to splurge on my first boy! My first official BJD, I guess early 2011? The turnabout is quite long, but I'm content. OwO

    13. The first BJD I saw was on DeviantArt, early 2007. I started searching about them and discovered DoD website, and later I've joined a brazilian forum. I got my first doll in the same year, before joining DoA.

    14. I discovered BJD maybe 5 years ago, but I was a student and I was really impressed by their prices, I tried to forget them. I just stumbled on them last month and reconsidered having this as a hobby, and found out that most companies offer dolls that are less pricey (at first I thought that every single one of these dolls cost 1000 USD hahaha).

I'm currently waiting for a IOS Chaos head, so I don't have a doll as of now, but I don't see why I can't be a bit active in the forum, especially considering that I have sooo much to learn. I studied art so it help, and I'm into warhammer 40k too which use resin and plastic, but it's really different.

    15. I first know about BJD when I was 12 but at that time I'm not into BJD so much.
Last year, when I was 19, I bought DD Saber for my Saber collection and that is the beginning of the story.
In July this year, I take Saber to doll shop for advices (How to take car her and such) and that is when I saw so many dolls and fall in love with them
And after 3 months I decide to order one from Blue Fairy, which I got him this month :)

    16. I discovered BJDs a few years ago when author Holly Black mentioned them on her blog. I was a poor student at the time so I knew that it wasn't the time to get into an expensive hobby. I did actually join DoA back then but never posted so I lost my account. I finally bought my first 3 dolls at the beginning of this year and it was so worth the wait to be able to have them all come within a couple months of each other.

    17. It was never a matter of 'caving in' for me. From the moment I learned about BJDs I knew I had to own one, no matter what. My issue instead was how to get one :sweat That took about three years

    18. It took me some time to be convinced. xD
First, it started with a good friend, introducing her dolls to me. I had known about her doll-collection for about an year and was not very impressed with dolls in general at the time. But when I saw her dolls I could see the difference to all the other kinds of dolls I had come across before. Even then, I never even entertained the idea of ever owning one. Half a year after, I was browsing the companies just for fun to learn more of the hobby and came across DD Kelly sculpt. It was love at first sight. Ordered that doll about two months after. So, all in all, from the first introduction into BJDs it took me about two years from first contact, half a year after seeing the dolls "live". xD I needed to get over feeling uncomfortable about owning a doll. And I have just joined DoA, almost three years after my first doll. ^^ Time sure flies when you have fun...

    19. I found out about BJDs about two years ago. I am currently doll-less but I believe 2013 is going to be my year for finally owning my very own Iplehouse. :) Now if only I could decide on Rexy or Carina... :)

    20. pfffffffffff I didn't last very long. I followed Celesse on Tumblr and she posted some pictures of her pipos charlotte with her new face up and i was like "omg that is a beautiful doll i want one too" that was around november/december of last year, so when i had christmas money i ordered my first pipos charlotte and i love her ;u;b now i'm really hoping to buy my second doll before i leave to college ;x;b I joined DoA after I got my first doll :) i've seen pretty dolls, but none that i thought i had to own myself. most dolls that I think that way about I've discovered on my own or i had a vision of and someone pointed me in the right direction :I
