1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. It took me 3 years to actually attempt to buy a dollie and another half a year to actually order one. Haha! :) It was mainly hesitance with the pricing and pre-ordering wait time... Now, I have one dollie and 3 more coming in... Eeeep~ D: I still have yet to really work out my first doll. Yikes.
(I joined DoA a couple weeks after I preordered my first dollie Haha~)

    2. I found out about the hobby and BJD's in October last year and at first my thought were that I will never get one myself but it's fun to look at them and they are pretty but in a months time I bought one and I have never regretted it! I'm so happy in this hobby and I've met wonderful dollie people at meets and I've settled in in the community pretty well. I don't see myself as a newbie anymore and I've got 5 members of my doll family at the moment and it will grow :P

    3. I learned about BJD's back in 2009, I forget exactly how. I got very attached to the idea of owning one, but never got around to it because I was younger and didn't have a lot of money. But I bought my first doll this year. :) I also got a DOA account when my doll was on the way, so I wasn't 'doll-less' for very long.

    4. I'm not actually sure when I learned about bjd's. It was like I knew those exist, then I learned about them a year and then half a year later I ordered first one. :'D
And I have been in this hobby near 5 years, so I think it was "normal" kinda give in. Not slow but not too fast.

    5. about 7 years since i found out about bjd-dolls. and about 2,5 years since i found the promo of my beloved one.

    6. It took me about, 6-7 years after I first found out about bjds. I thought the pictures I had seen so far were a bit creepy, and that all dolls are out to stab you with a knife. Y'see I love horror movies, so my general impression of dolls are the possessed, move their eyes to follow you across the room, kind of doll. But after joining mfc, and looking at more doll pics on deviantart and instagram, I fell hard. Now I just cannot stop wanting my own collection of dolls, buying their clothes, creating customs and styling wigs etc.

    7. I've found out about BJDs about five of six years ago. I saw a guy posting pictures of them on DA and I was amazed, the first thing I thought was "Whoa! They look like 3D video game characters!" I kept staring at them and couldn't get over how realistic they looked. When my sister saw them, she instantly fell in love and decided to purchase her first doll. I was shocked by the price and decided to forget about it. But she bought her first doll, a year later...her second doll, and then her third. I couldn't hide my adoration for her dolls, I loved them.

Once I was looking at dolls again with her, I couldn't stop looking at all. She was now getting her first 1/3 doll and larger dolls intrigued me so much more. She then said "Why don't you buy one?"

As soon as she said that, I felt like I couldn't get the idea out of my head. I was like "Nah..." but I kept looking at 1/3 dolls, saving their pictures and staring at them. I became 'obsessed' as my sister called me. It took me a few days to finally decide I wanted one. It wasn't easy for me because I'm not used to buying anything expensive.

I started looking for a doll. I didn't care about the price. I wanted one. It look me a couple of days to decide on Lance. I started saving for him and as soon as I got my money. I ordered him this month on the 4th.

Now I can't wait to hold him.

    8. For me, I got invited to DoA from a friend on livejournal. Then someone at a convention had dolls, and my boyfriend ended up buying one for me. A pullip. I always gawk and awe at larger BJD ... I'm going to get a larger one once I decide on one.. it's been about 3 years I think.

    9. I've always seen BJDs I thought looked so amazing and pretty but my wallet was safe, I didn't feel like I HAD to have one right away UNTIL I saw Elisa....ugh! It only took me 2 weeks to snap and buy her.

    10. I found out about them because I used to play a computer game, Babyz, and a bunch of people on the Babyz forum were into them. At the time I thoguht they were creepy (they had adult dolls) but looked into it and found Pullips. They kept me very happy for about 4 years. Then I found Latis. Bought one and sold it, so about... 8ish years later I'm still doll-less. But I'm waiting for the doll I've always REALLY wanted :-) My Pukifee <3

    11. It was over 2 years, and I didn't become a member of DoA until a few months before I ordered my first. Like the OP, I started out with Pullips and then finally gave in once I found out there were companies with lower prices (Bobobie). I think in 2006 (when I first read about them), I thought only Volks and Luts existed. Sometimes I wish I'd just stuck with the Pullips...I'd have so much money saved up if I'd never "gave in":|.

    12. I've been a toy collector my whole life but bjd weren't really on my radar until I started customizing Hot Toys. I was searching for clothes for my 1/6 figures on Ebay and it starting pulling up bjd stuff. I was pretty much doomed from that moment on. A giant doll you can completely customize? Um, yes, please. I didn't find out about DoA until well after I'd started my doll collection.

    13. I remember a few early Volks and Luts SD dolls showing up on fashion doll forums back in 2000. I started collecting pictures of BJDs I liked, and in spring 2012 I bought my first MSD. I didn't buy my first SD until recently though. As for DoA, I already had bjds by the time I registered.

    14. I first heard about them in 2004 because of Volks though it wasn't until 2006 did I start saving to seriously buy one. Originally I thought volks were the only company who made them, after I was introduced to other companies I bought my first.

    15. I saw them on Instagram about 2 years ago, and it took me a while to work out what they were and how to find them on google but when I saw the price I sighed and stopped looking. Then I felt really stupid because I couldn't remember how to find them again! It was a stroke of good luck when I stumbled on BJDs on Instagram a second time around and fell in love with the first company I saw, Bluefairy. It must have taken me about 2 months of Instagram stalking the Bluefairy hashtag before I seriously considered buying one and there were only 2 things in my way, will my Mum let me and what will she think? Well the first one was pretty easy since I'm 20 and it's been years since my Mum has had a say what I spend my money on (but old habits die hard) however the second posed a trickier problem. As it turned out my Mum was totally cool about it and has been really supportive but I still chose my first doll based on how much I thought my Mum would approve, not how much I loved it ><"
I joined here many months later when a very kind flickr user was lovely enough to invite me, I still feel very lucky she did.

    16. i found out about bjds through friends and was instantly hooked. i found out about them in nov and order my first dolls the same month. i suppose i am still doll-less because my dollies have yet to arrive but i should have them by jan.

    17. Um hmm... One day, lol. No, like, seriously, dolls like these were my dream since a child, so there was no reason to abstain! I found them on my own when searching for jointed dolls on the internet. I was born to fancy dolls i think... Having a bjd in the end was inevitable.

    18. It was pretty quick for me. As soon as I KNEW about BJD's I HAD to save for one, I became obsessed. I am currently a doll-less, active member here :D I really don't mind as time flies and I will have my first doll before I know it ----Hopefully :D

    19. I'm the type of person who, when I find a new hobby, I need to get involved ASAP. So I probably waited about three weeks before I ordered my first doll ^_^ my poor wallet hehe

    20. About 2 years and only after my friend bought one that i had the courage.
