1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I found out about dolls in December 2009.
I started researching and looking for "my doll".
I had one picked out, and had started buying little things for her (before ordering the doll).
3.5 or so months later, beginning of April 2010, I got laid off. Hubby suggested using my last paycheck to buy a doll.
Smart man knew that me sitting at home with nothing to do would be the death of him :D lol
I ended up picking a doll. Not the one I had planned for mind you. And ordered her. So the ordering part didn't take me long.

    2. I knew about them for a couple of years from being on a forum that had some people who had them but I never knew that you could buy less expensive BJD's so I just figured it wasn't a type of doll that I would be collecting. But then I found out about dolls like the ones from Resinsoul and I decided to join DOA and get into it after all. I was getting a bit bored with the types of dolls I had been collecting. I had already stepped up to collecting a doll that was very like a BJD but not resin. It wasn't that long before I decided I wanted the real thing. I meant to get just one, but of course that resolve didn't last long when I found out I could actually have resin dolls for about the same price as some vinyl dolls. So now I have a small interesting collective of the resins and I'm happy. It's totally revived and refreshed me mentally in terms of my doll collecting...

    3. I admired BJD since i was teenage. 9 or so years later i was finally able to afford one and i gave in. XD

    4. I discovered dolls way back in 2004 (possibly 2003, but I think '04 is likelier) and joined DoA in 2005. I got my first BJD in 2006 and another three in 2007. Then I had a rather long hiatus, only popping in twice in 2010, before getting back into things now. From getting back into things this week and until ordering a new doll it took... 1 1/2 days :P Which is a change from when I first started!

    5. Heard about BJDs at NekoCon 11/2/13. They had a panel about them. Fell in love. :aheartbea At home, started googling. Watched youtube videos, and girl showed a Luts doll. I went to their website, saw they had a 15% off event for 12/3, and ordered the next day. While I was at the con, they mentioned DOA as THE information/community website, so I joined. I am so looking forward to this new hobby!

    6. I had seen them along time ago and told my mother I wanted one, but I got a clear no from her. Then 15 years later my aunt got her first doll and I got interested in them again, and so I got my first order on the way now, and can not wait to get them in the mail.

    7. It was a few years from when I first saw a Bjd (summer of 2010) till when I bought my first, which was this month! YAYY. I browsed the dolls & companies for a long time at first. Not really knowing what I wanted, and wanting to be sure. It's such an investment in my opinion that research was really important to me. I'm happy I waited, and even happier I don't have to wait anymore! :D

    8. It took me almost eight months from that I got interested in the hobby till I ordered one. So it took almost exactly a whole year between that I found out about the hobby until I could open the box of my first doll :3 It was a bit too much money for me to invest in an entierly new hobby so I had to both work up the courage, save the money and be sure I would be staying in the hobby once I bought the doll. Now, however, I would never be able to leave the hobby, having two dolls and waiting for my third, planning for my fourth, saving for my fifth ;3

    9. Let's see... I was introduced to dolls sometime around June of 2008. In the fall of 2012, I finally decided to make the move and get my first doll. She was a half old/half new doll (I bought the head from Mint on Card and the body for a friend who had changed the doll's gender--she let me play with the body and I decided I liked it, the price was good, and I could live with yellow skin versus pink skin). It was a Doll Zone girl, with a Helen head that was new. I had my friend who sold me the body do the face up on the blank head, and I love her to bits. :) Almost all of my dolls are second hand (largely because of the price and I know a little bit more about them), but I finally broke down earlier this month and ordered an Iplehouse Doll Choice (because the face I loved /just had/ to be an SiD when I wanted a YiD body -.-). I'm very excited about her. :D

I've been in the hobby for a couple years now and just recently came to DoA, however, I've been with Dairyland since summer of 2012. It was after my first DL meet that I dove in head first and put a downpayment on my first doll's body. :)

    10. Stumbled across the Volks store (at that point not actually know OF the Volks company in the first place) in July 2009 in the old Akihabara Radio Kaikan location and finding their doll section but being put off by the price of everything.

      Got my first one in October 2009 when I wasn't paying attention in class and found they made one I really really really liked. So I impulse bought her ^^;

    11. I believe it was about 2 or so years between first seeing a friend with a Volks doll and then slowly transitioning from "ew it's so big and creepy" to "I want one!" I don't even remember what triggered the switch in my brain, but I'm glad it happened :)

    12. 8 years. Joined DoA in 2007, obsessed for a while, and then put it on the backburner til I grew up and could afford to buy myself dolls. Now I have three and three on layaway!

    13. At least a couple of years for me. It wasn't until Pipos announced that they were going to discontinue (for the time being) the Cheshire cat. Then I broke down and got one.

    14. I came across Think Pink when looking for stuff to turn some old barbie dolls into fantasy heroes (yeah). After that, nearly a year of drooling over BJD websites before I bought my Obitsu doll ('no no, no resin, that's far too expensive, but if I ever do I want an Iplehouse'). Some 3 months later I got myself a RS tiny and became a DOA member a few weeks later. And now I'm actually working towards the Iplehouse doll. Lol.

    15. I met my friends and was introduced to what a bjd was in... 2007. I got my first doll in the fall of 2012. I has really wanted a doll sometime shortly after I was first introduced, but I didn't think I could ever deal with the price, especially with a low paying job. A lot had changed since then. XD I've learned what I'm willing to give up and how to squirrel funds away, even when it's hard. And I don't regret my collection.

I became a DoA member recently, but joined Dairyland just around the time I was serious about getting a doll. :)

    16. when I was a little girl, I wish I could have one but it is too expensive to me.. and I am shy to ask for that to my mom...
but since I was able to buy the dolls, I just bought it without hesitesion.

    17. I have known about them peripherally for five or six years, but price also has turned me away. I found myself really into other doll and toy collecting for a good while, and still do that, but I have come to the point I really want a BJD. I am still dollless, though, and am likely to be for a while; I am saving up, but I am a poor college student so it will be a good while yet, I imagine.

I am perfectly fine with waiting, though, and biding my time until I can bring my first baby home!

    18. I found out about BJDs about three years ago, but had just gotten into Blythe, so I tried to ignore them. Then I tried satisfying myself with abs Hujoos, because they were cheaper and could share clothes and accessories with my other dolls. But the pull of the resin was too strong! I didn't join DOA until after I had my two resin dolls, partly because I was intimidated (I'm not terribly socially competent), but also because it didn't occur to me that I could join if I didn't have dolls.

Edited to actually answer the question - it was almost three years before I gave in. Now I wish I'd just gone straight to the resin dolls! Anyone want to by some off-topic dolls? (That's a joke, btw, not an advertisement!)

    19. Well let's see. I was 12 when i found out about them, and i constantly was looking them up but they were far to expensive. So now that i have a job i gave right in! So, it was 5 years before i gave in and joined.

    20. I found out about them 5 years ago.. "Gave in" just last year.. Wanted to get one the very first time I found out about the hobby but I needed to convince the people around me, save up, plus find the doll I wanted to own~~~ ^^

I was a inactive doll-less member for awhile as I didn't really know how to navigate the forum...
Trying to catch up now~ ^^
