1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. Took me about five years. Also I didn't find DoA untill I already had a doll. Just became a member a month or so ago :)

    2. I found Volks maybe 15 years ago...but I knew it would be nothing but trouble for me lol! I knew also about DOA when they were a yahoo group. There was just too much going on...around 2005 I started heading back down the dolly path. After my grandmother died a couple of years ago I gave in entirely. I wish I had done it earlier. She would have loved my current collection and enjoyed the pictures on DOA. I never did buy a Volks tho lol

    3. I believe I first read about them when I was in high school...I want to say Barbie Bazaar had a snippet on them in one issue? This would've been early 2000-something, I think. I didn't have the internet at the time but was very intrigued.

It wasn't until 2003, while I was on a homestay overseas, that I really started researching them. At the time I think there was only Volks (at least, it was all I was aware of) and their website was only in Japanese! I remember trying to figure out the FCS options and wondered why you couldn't just customize it over the internet and have it shipped to you. XD

Some time after I returned home, I ended up joining the DoA yahoo group but was filled with despair. These dolls were super super expensive and could only be ordered by shopping service and gah, they were still so unattainable to me! I never participated in the discussions and gave up the idea of owning one, but never really let go of that dream; I've always been a "doll person" and these beauties weren't like anything I'd seen before.

Two years later, in 2005, I had been saving up money with my job and smack out of the blue decided to check out DoA again. Found out it'd become a forum, and the options with ball-jointed dolls had expanded considerably. Volks was still considered the top company to a lot of people, but there were plenty of new Korean companies to buy from now also! I went crazy for a couple of months googling all the different companies I was reading about and trying so hard to decide if I really should go ahead and take the plunge.

The day I decided that I was, for sure, going to order a doll was the day I "officially" joined the forum. I didn't get my first doll until 2006, so there was a bit of a gap there (a lot of it was spent deciding on which doll and then waiting for said doll to arrive).

Had I been older when I discovered them initially, I don't think I would've waited as long as I did. The looming expense, the language barrier, and the whole idea of using a proxy service to order was very daunting to teenaged me! I guess you could technically say it took me something like six years to finally "give in," but the reality was that once I saw BJDs as something that I could feasibly purchase the time span was something more like a matter of months.

    4. I was in this hobby since 2005 and I got my very first doll several months later after I got into bjd. And my bjd hobby is still going on....mayb forever..

    5. We have practically the same story XD
I am a huge vocaloid fan. And I had recently found an enchanting song by Miku and Meiko called Ball Jointed Dolls. So with the intent to listen to the song, I simply typed in "Ball Jointed Dolls". The first thing was a video of someone's doll collection. I watched it out of curiousity. I decided I liked these 'Ball Jointed Dolls' and so I googled them. And the first company that came up was LUTS. The dolls were beautiful, and I saw an event doll I really liked. But how was I to get 500$ in a week? I remember almost crying that night that the event ended. I researched these dolls more, than came upon Pullip. I had seen these before, when you look up Vocaloid on Amazon, the Miku Pullip and the Kagamine Dals come up. So, I purchased Taeyang Timlus. I have gotten 3 other Pullip-Type dolls since then (I have one Little Pullip-Obitsu Hybrid) and am watching the amount in my "Doll Fund" jar grow for the BJD I fell in love with the same August day I found Tim- Doll Love Kaja. I can't wait to get him, Im just afraid my parents will be skeptical about letting me spend so much on a doll.

    6. Toke me 10 years before I got my first doll xD hehe

    7. Ohh it took me about 8 months (well, I say it took *me* but actually after 8 months my partners bought me a dollzone star).

    8. My first-first contact with BJD's was 2007, but it didn't made me want to have one of my own. Next time I heard about them was last summer (2013) as my good friend showed her dolls to me (and tons and tons of pictures of other dolls). I fell in love with Doll Chateaus but didn't have money at the time to afford one. I still signed up on finnish doll site, and started to dream about doll of my own.

Andat the start of october 2013, I found Resin Soul Yao's pic, and decided: "This girl will be coming home first".

So, I had been dolless member of our forum for three months before got my first doll. And as I have now two at home, and joined DoA just a little
      while back, I haven't been dolless around here. ^^;

    9. About 3-4 years? I dont know exactly. During that time, i was just a student and was too young to work. I wasnt aware of DOA too and i was too shy to ask around.

    10. I first found out about BJDs in 2005, if I'm not mistaken. However, I immediately lost interest after seeing how much they cost :'/ I started regaining interest in 2011 and registered in DoA the following year. It was also around this time that I've decided to buy a BJD although it was still at the bottom of my priorities. I wasn't active in the forums till last December, which was when I ordered my first doll. He's not home yet but I'm expecting him to ship early next month (:

    11. it took about a good 6 years or so, i tried to collect obitsus and pullips before officially given in to the "expensive doll hobby"
      until i started college
and realized that $200 bucks is not a whole lot of money compared to tution fees and textbook fees.

    12. Only took me a couple of months once I became aware of BJD's. Fell in love immediately, but like many others, had to justify the costs.

Only been on DOA for little over a month, now.

    13. One month of staring at dolls on Resin Cafe…and I put a deposit on a Kaye Wiggs MSD BJD. Done and done!!!! :)

    14. I want to say I knew about BJDs for about 3 years and saw them casually before that. This year I became very interested, and joined DoA a few months ago. I ordered my first doll yesterday(Yao from Resinsoul)...we'll see when she actually arrives. :D

    15. I first found out about BJDs about a year ago, but it was only recently that I started researching and learning more about them. What really won me over was the day that I got to help someone dress her dolls and take them on a photoshoot. I fell in love with both the dolls and their cute wardrobe items--they're so detailed for being so small! :D

I joined DOA within a week...

I was intending to wait a little longer before getting a doll, but there was one that captured my heart and she's on her way to me now. <3
Hopefully my adopted Soom Gena will be here by Friday!:whee:

    16. I first saw a BJD in.. 2007 I think? One of my friends, we were 11 at the time, had her parents order her a MSD one from Volks. She then got the doll, and my first thought was exactly "Wow.. Quite expensive for a toy. I would never spend my money on that." (How wrong I was!) I didn't say that to her, though, because I didn't want to hurt her feelings. ^^
In 2010 I found BJD's again upon seeing a picture on the internet. In 2011 I joined a Finnish BJD-website, and in 2012 I bought my first doll second-hand.
I didn't join DoA until last December since I didn't get an invitation before that.

    17. Whats the Finnish BJD website (used to live in Finland for good 16 years) ? I would like to check it out :)

    18. It's gonna sound weird but I got into BJDs from watching a Korean horror film called The Doll Master. From then I fell in love with BJDs and if you watch it you will love and cry for Mina and Damian. It was after watching this film that I got into Bjds and that has been a little under a year and after doing research and saving up I only recently decided to get my first BJD from impldoll and joined DOA! :)

    19. I've known about BJDs since 2008, when I lived in Japan - but I wasn't interested in them at all then, I only liked Blythe. Gradually, over the years my taste in dolls has developed! I got used to more realistic head proportions, then slightly more realistic faces and now finally I can see bjds that I like. There are still a lot of bjds I'm not keen on though. After a few weeks of looking I still found all the different companies and sizes and sculpts too confusing so I joined DOA, then after another few weeks I decided which doll I'd like. Now I'm saving for her. It's been a long process :)

    20. I've known about BJDs for about 4-5 years. I saw a picture on Deviant art and thought they were amazing...until i saw the prices and then i just kind backed away from them for awhile. last year i saw a box opening video on YouTube and fell in love! ever since then i've been saving for my first doll xDDDD
