1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I've known about BJD for over about two years know but it's only been just under a year since I started saving. When I discovered them I thought they were wonderful but realised that I would never have one because of the price. But I kept going back and looking at them, slowly learning more and before I knew it getting my first doll was no longer an unreachable dream.

As for being doll-less on the forum, I still am but I consider myself quite an active member considering that there isn't really much I can post having no experience with BJDs. I was quite far through my saving process when I did get an invite to DoA from a lovely girl I met at my first (doll-less on my part) doll meet.

    2. I saw a photo of one and saved it on my computer even though I had no idea that it was a BJD. Then, like 2 years later, I stumbled upon youtube box openings and realized that you could actually buy them! o_o So once I figured out a way to get my hands on one, it took...a week? And I'm still waiting for him 4 months later. XD But then I caved and 4 days after my preorder went for an in stock doll and I have never regretted it! ♥ Now I have another pending preorder and plans for...one more, soon. :doh This hobby is dangerous! LOL ;D

It took me forever to figure out a way to join DOA and was so happy when a few of my new youtube BJD friends offered me invites! And last week it was official and I got accepted to this awesome forum! :) I am so happy right now!

    3. I just went through some old photographs of my friends' dolls and realized May 2005 was the first time I did a photoshoot of a BJD with my friend. I didn't realize it was that long ago lol! In May 2011 I purchased my first BJD so it was exactly 6 years later I officially joined the hobby as a doll owner so I had a doll when I joined DOA.

    4. I've known BJDs for around 2-3years because I always stumble to their pics through some of the beauty bloggers' posts I follow, other doll forum I've joined, and on doll-related stores, but I only bought one earlier this month when the urge to actually get one was getting so bad xD

    5. I first saw them when I was 13 but never had any money and I was not good at using the internet so didn't end up looking at them a lot... once I found them again at 17 I pretty much ordered my first one in a week xD

    6. 3 weeks >.< I was 16 and had the money and got the most adorable little girl. I sold her and regret it sometimes but I never regret getting into this hobby.

    7. The first time I learned about BJDs was around 2009 and I wanted one ever since despite the high price. But I lacked the money and it took me until two weeks ago to order my first doll and I am so happy right now. Also, I'm a DoA member since 2010, but I was merely stalking and learning more about these beautiful things rather than being active.

    8. I found about BJD's around April. I decided to save up for one a few weeks later! I joined DOA not too long ago and still have no doll due to financial reasons. :pout:
I enjoy reading the threads, so I wouldn't consider myself inactive, but it's kind of difficult to join in when I don't have a doll yet.

    9. I heard about bjds from a friend a few years back, but I never looked into them. It was only until last month I decided to see what they were all about, and I suddenly realized I was in love with them! I came across DOA and joined, and a few days after joining I ordered my first doll. :XD:
I'm always surprised when people say they searched for months until they decided on a doll -- it makes me feel like I might have rushed into everything. But I pulled some all-nighters researching...And I'm a bit impatient and hasty, ahaha.

    10. I guess it was around a year between when I first realized my closet-love for BJDs and when I got my first one.

I like to do mountains of research before buying things, so I basically spent that year doing that... I looked at so many companies and owner pictures and comparisons... I dunno if it was worth waiting or not. I probably would have been just as happy buying a random doll I knew almost nothing about. But eh.

    11. I discover bjds a few months ago when I saw a youtube video of someone doing face ups. I thought that was so cool and figured I would enjoy doing it since I'm good with creativity and art...Then I saw the price of these dolls:pout: That sort of scared me away since I didn't really have an interest in collecting the dolls, I just wanted to do face ups. So I just bought monster highs and started doing face ups on them...But I keep watching others do bjd face up, and opening their new arrivals. Now I have all these characters in my head for different bjds. It's like I already have the collection in my head, so I can no longer deny the fact that I want them:XD: Although I don't have any yet the two I do want are only around until October so that will probably light a fire under my ass.

    12. I joined in 2007 one month after my DZ Fei arived.

    13. I've been wanting a BJD for a while but never did my research. Then I took my first visit to the Luts website...IT WAS OVER!!! I was addicted!!!

    14. Oh, I wasn't doll-less member at all)) When I started a hobby, I didn't even know there are people, who like dolls too.
I just saw Ducan on a Dream of Doll site and that was it - nothing else mattered to me any longer. I read how to buy him on the english part of their site and...well, sent my money via bank transfer.
But it was a few months before I desided I need him since I saw him for the first time. And all that time I didn't try to find any other doll-lovers. I really thought I was the only crazy person to pay that much for a doll in my entire sity back then, haha!)

    15. I've discovered BJD about 5 years ago but decided to order my first doll last year. :) I owned BJD before joining any forum. At first I joined German BJD forum last December and Den of Angels around 4 months ago. Anyway, I've already had all my dream dolls and won't ordered new one anymore. But I'm still active because I really do love to sew and take photos of BJD ;)

    16. Around 12 months or so, after seeing a friend on LJ post about her dolls a fair bit. I had seen them before, but wasn't really interested. I was invited here by her, and I got my first doll maybe a month or so after joining.

    17. I think I waited about two-three years from the first time I saw one to when I bought one. I think after I learned their names (bjd) it took me about a year to get my first.

    18. It took me a few weeks of hanging around my gf's dolls and going to a doll meet to sway me towards them. I joined DOA with two ordered but neither having arrived (still waiting on one XD) but was so curious about the community that I found it to be one of my more active periods. Choose my first didn't take long, I just looked for a sculpt that suited what I was looking for: while my gf had a sour faced man and an adorable dragon I wanted a cute, well dressed girl....not hard to find in this hobby XD.

    19. A few months, no more !

    20. It's been a few years since I saw my first BJDs and I've always liked them... however other things had priority on what I could spend my money on so I dismissed it.
Then last year I got into BJDs again and couldn't stop looking at pictures, told myself that "one day I will have to get one!"
I've researched but was a bit sad that the ones I liked were on the expensive end...so I thought I'd wait a bit longer.
And the summer of this year, after saving up money for an expensive graphics tablet I decided to really go for it and started buying my BJDs and their things instead!
