1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I joined DoA in 2009, adamant I would be buying a ball jointed doll that year. I somehow managed to hold off (Thanks real life expenses and emergencies! Thanks crippling indecision!) until this morning. Going by my join date I'm just a few days shy of 5 years.

I really never expected my self restraint to be that strong. It certainly isn't the rest of the time. :sweat

    2. I saw BJDs a number of years ago and was intrigued by them, but at that time I was not into collecting dolls as much as I was into making my own dolls to sell. It was just a few months ago that I came into some money from my doll making (I make one of a kind cloth and clay dolls) and decided to treat myself to a new doll. That was when I started paying attention to BJDs again. The price was high, but not as high as some of the antique dolls that I purchased in the past, so I decided to go for it. I have my first BJD on order (an Iplehouse Stella). In the meantime, I've been shopping around for clothes that will fit her and finding it quite a challenge. Maybe that's a good thing though since there are so many cute items out there for BJDs I would probably find myself tempted to buy more than I should and overspend my budget!

    3. I saved for a year for my first doll, only being able to set aside a little here and there, and before then, I knew who I wanted a couple months into looking at these dolls. Then registration was invite-only and I didn't know anyone but then I came on here one day and saw registration was open and jumped at the chance. That was a little after a year after I got my girl :)

    4. I found them in june. And im buying my first two in the beginning of October. After that, its going to be saving my pennys for more.

    5. I knew about them for a few years but was never really that interested until I started looking at them moer and more, I loved the way they moved and the great photos that could be taken with them. It took me over a year from when I decided to get one until I found the one I wanted and then when I saw her photo I knew she was the one for me :)

    6. I'll be sure to let you know when I finally do buy one! ;)

    7. I first saw BJDs at an anime convention back in er maybe 2006 or 2007 (I really can't remember). I do recall asking about what they are and later on went on the interwebs to try to find them only to become very upset over the price...years later a friend in my college art class brings in her BJD and I was instantly on her case asking questions and finding out that there were other price ranges for different sized dolls and companies (I was originally seeing SD sizes (not knowing that's what size they where) and now my biggest doll is MSD ha!). I soon ordered my first doll and during that time the same friend invited me to DOA (I might of already had the doll I can't remember if I did or didn't ha). that's my little story ^^"

    8. I first saw BJDs about 5 or 6 years ago and only now I came up to buy one or two. So I think it's about another 5-6 years until I give up x)

    9. I first knew bjds from weibo and blogs in 2010
I didn't know the name of the dolls but I always enjoyed looking at their pictures, cosplays and photo stories.
In 2012 I finally knew their name"bjd" from my friend so I started looking at them at first their price struck me but then I thought of all the good times we'll spend together so I thought it will be worth it
I was amazed by ringdoll, volks, and doll family H at first
I got my first doll in 2012
And I also knew about Doa but I didn't know how to sign up I asked a few friends to help me recently and finally in 2014 I'm a member

    10. I'm another person who discovered bjds in 2007 or so. I thought they were beautiful but way beyond my budget... and I admit that I was a little ashamed of my fascination with them. Came so close to buying a Blythe two summers ago, but chickened out. This year I got a new job and started saving up money. When a couple of bjds showed up on my tumblr, I started to read more about them. Finally took the plunge and bought my first doll - She came in August and I love her!

    11. I found BJDs back in about 2007, as well. I just bought my first in Feb. Though, I had to reorder her since she was stolen. I got her in May. I joined DoA in April. I also just ordered my second and third doll last night. My current doll is Angel of Dream Qi. The two new ones are Impldoll Plaice and Gela.

    12. I learned about BJDs in 2008 via the eBay dolls discussion board, but I was seriously collecting some other kinds of dolls at that time and they didn't distract me, lol. However, I've always particularly loved pose-ability in a doll and was bound to become more interested in them! I was looking at pictures of dolls online early in the summer and became fascinated with the Asian-made ones. I decided I really wanted a BJD elf and bought one about 3-4 weeks later. Then, in the same week, I ordered one direct (5Star) early in July that I hope will be making her way to me this month. I was lucky enough to be invited to join DoA from a friendly seller.

    13. Now I can answer definitively... "less than a month." ;)

    14. I knew about BJDs for 6 years, and it was only last July that I finally gave in and bought one.
Before, I was also scared off by the price, and I ended up buying Pullips instead. It was only a couple of months ago that I realized that I could actually buy my first BJD if I save a little more. x'D
I haven't been a member of DOA for long, in fact, it was only recently that I've became a member, though I've known of the site for quite some time now. I try to be active, I guess [though, I do like to lurk too \shot].

    15. When the first time I saw Rozen Maiden, I decided that one day I will find my own, unique doll. But I waited for the fittest doll to myself about eight years.

    16. I began looking into BJDs earlier this year and purchased my first doll about a month after starting my research on them,I then purchased my second one a few months after that.

    17. I first heard of them years ago, but didn't start doing serious research until...Januaryish? of last year. Got my first in July 2013. Just recently joined DOA.

    18. It's been quite long time actually. Three, perhaps four years? For ages I didn't even believe I could own one.

    19. Oh man I've wanted a BJD since high school. During junior year of college, my roomie and I began collecting Monster High dolls to fill the hole in our hearts.

Then I graduated, moved to Florida, ordered an MSD about a month later and bought my first SD secondhand at a doll meet ahaaaa

    20. I had wanted a bjd for about 3 years and joined DOA at the start of this year..I have two girls now who are off topic from searching..but planning my next purchase possibly from Soom. I love dark and mysterious..
