1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I went to an anime convention with a friend who had one and there were artists selling bjd clothes. I bought my first bjd a week later.

    2. I first learned of BJDs back in '05. An artist I was following posted pictures on her site of her BJDs along with a link to Dollmore. I was so enthralled with the Model doll M line. I was in high school during that time and quickly came to the conclusion my parents would never buy one for me; mostly because I felt it would've been unfair for me to ask for something so expensive.
I didn't forget about them though! Since I'm now an adult that can indulge in my own tastes out of my own wallet responsibly, I've been slowly collecting. I began collecting back in 2012 so, about 7 years passed before I actively started in this hobby. I can't believe it's been that long. ._.

But if I had the opportunity back in '05 to get a BJD, it would've happen way back then lolol

    3. I found out about BJD's, oh... In July of this year I believe? I started kind of wanting an Obitsu in the beginning of November, and then became obsessed! I soon found out the differences between obitsus and resin dolls, and opted for the latter, despite the price ;) so glad I did!

    4. It's been almost a year since I found out about BJDs and I waited until Dollism Plus 9 in HK to buy my first doll.

    5. I first learned about BJDs in 2008 I believe. I didn't buy my first BJD until last May though. It was something that I was obsessed with for a while in high school but too expensive, so I eventually moved on. Last year I started getting into dolls and bought a few Pullips. And it just snowballed from there!

    6. Took me three years to finally cave and get one. I'm tough to wear down. Especially when It comes to spending money. But once I start it's hard to stop too. I'm hopeless

    7. I was given my first Bjd as a Christmas present and I liked them or was becoming a little obsessed with them (heh would look at the Bjd company sites every day) a few months before. Not sure I would have been able to wait, I'm usually the type who buys as soon as she wants. Yeaaaaaaaaa.... :sweat

    8. I've been vaguely aware of bjds for years, but I've only really been into them for almost a month. I've had my first doll for almost a week now (it arrived the same day I got full access here). :| I really am hopeless when I start to obsess over something. :doh

    9. I watched a K-horror movie called "The Dollmaker" earlier this year and discovered bjds. I researched them online and got Aoife (RS Mei) in July. I got Roget (Magical Angel Abby) this Fall. When I fall for something, I move fast! :love

    10. I found Cuarto's Darkhorn on Tumblr about...two years ago? Joined the waiting list on a lark, but once they wrote me it only took about two days for me to decide to go all-in. Then the next week I put another doll on layaway at Denver Dolls. Haven't pulled the trigger on anyone else YET, but there's about eight dolls on my want list. I just want to have an actual doll in my hands first!

I'll be a doll-less DoA member for about four months.

    11. Not long at all. My good friend does face ups and I drooled over photos for about a month before joining DoA and making my first purchase.

    12. To my knowledge about a year and some ... I didn't really get too into it at first, then I got sucked up :dance

    13. Hmmm I discovered it about three months ago, and I'm totally in love with the hobbie!! Since then I'm saving up to buy my first doll! Just can't get tired of searching, looking for different sculpts, comparing prices, imagining how my doll will look like, the clothes, wig, everything! :o

    14. I think I found out about bjds about two years ago, though it could have been longer than that, I can't recall the exact point in time. I didn't get one until October of this year because they were too expensive for me at the time of discovery.

If I had money at that time, I don't think anything would have stopped me from caving in for one then.

    15. ...Less then a week :XD: i'm bad toward temptations and these BJD are just to lovely to even say no wohoho

    16. When people talk about themselves and others, they sometimes refer to themselves as a "dog person," "cat person," and so on. It's just a way for enthusiasts to identify and band together. I knew some "doll people." They were lovely people, but dolls weren't my thing.

I saw a picture of Volks KyoTenshi in late 2003. I thought it was a pretty picture, so I saved it and forgot about it. As a kid, I'd hated dolls, and I still wasn't interested in dolls. But I was interested in anime, and other anime fans on LJ and DevArt had these pretty pictures of these dolls. I kept running into them again and again.

Eventually, I found my way onto DOA in February 2005. I still believed I'd never buy one, that I just wasn't a "doll person." I just drifted around, seeing familiar names and looking at pretty dolls. Then Dollshe came out with the Hound, and that was IT. I had to get him! I ordered him May 31, 2005 from Luts and got him not long after. Now, nearly 10 years later, I have a modest collection that I love to pieces.

I still don't have any interest in other kinds of dolls, and still don't consider myself a "doll person." But, BJDs somehow are different to me. I'm definitely a "BJD person!"

    17. Years... I don't know the exact year though. The prices scared me and the only site I knew about was Soom. I loved their dolls but didn't quite understand why all the dolls I wanted were sold out. :blush It wasn't until a good friend of mine told me about her dolls that I started actively researching them.

    18. I've just ordered my first resin BJD after about 2 1/2 years since I was introduced to the hobby.

    19. I have known about BJD's for about 4-5 years. For a while it was simply "They exist", but during the end of 2013, I decided I really wanted one, and set about saving up for one. I bought my girl January 2014, and as she was in-stock at MintOnCard, I received her a few days later. :) So about 3-4 years difference between knowing about them, and owning my own.

    20. It took me about 6 years to finally buy my own. I was perfectly fine just photographing my friends' dolls but then Iplehouse came out with Carina and it was all downhill from there. ^^
