1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I got my first doll after about a year of searching about BJDs then joined DOA about a week later. I havnt been a member for long, but I'm loving the site.

    2. I became interested in ball jointed dolls around 2003-2004. I really loved the 70+cm dolls, but at the time such dolls were really expensive and I was also passionate about other hobbies at the time.
In 2012, eight (8) years after I first learned about bjd's, I bought a bjd which was a 70cm Resin Soul Feng Boy. I figured that he would test my commitment to the hobby.

I recently joined DOA, late 2014, because I wanted to join a community of sorts.

    3. i knew about the bjd sice i was in elementry school but my parents didnt like human looking doll and my pocket money was not enought to buy them but finally after i got accepted in college, i got a chance to get them. it's been long waiting time to get my own doll. 8D

    4. I saw Volks site probably around 2005-06 but didn't get one till 2012. Never could find a job till then so I never had the money. When I started working I started looking around again. I originally joined years ago but I never posted and my account was deleted.

    5. I bought one half a year after I researched about it owo

    6. passed as about 6 months and shortly after I joined the forum

    7. Went about two years, I think. I thought the dolls were too expensive, so I was saving up, but I didn't let myself order one. Then I saw Volks SD Nana in-person at IDEX 2013, and the rest is history. Well, at least I didn't break my "no-ordering" rule.

    8. I was exposed to bjds roughly 12 (yikes!) years ago, but I thought they were way to expensive to actually buy. In the beginning I kept a Flickr search permanently open for bjds, which became more of an of-and-on search when I tried to replace my bjd desire for Pullips and obitsu dolls. Unfortunately, a couple years ago, Flickr decided to completely reformat the site, and I couldn't spend all of my time searching deep into the internet for photos. Darn! This means I can blame Flickr for for everything, right? I joined DOA about a year after French Flickr stopped using the old version.

    9. I looked at BJDs online and read about them for two years before I joined DoA quite recently (since then I've spent all my spare time on here reading). Today I bought my grail doll, the doll that first made me fall in love with BJDs (a Minifee Chloe). If I had it to do over again, I would have joined DoA two years ago. Because DoA is by invitation only, I was a little intimidated (I didn't want to be the uneducated, doll-less newbie), and I thought I should be a doll owner to join. I had it backwards! Haha. Now I find out that DoA is a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to research the hobby. The site is so well organized and well run. So much thought was put into it. You can research on the internet on your own, but I feel like I was limited by what I could learn on my own. To me, nothing compares to joining a group of people who have done this research themselves and have real-world experience with all things related to BJDs.

    10. Approximately 4-5 months, I guess? I think if my bank balance had been healthy I would have cracked and ordered her about 3 days after seeing her, because it was love at first sight :D however I'm into the Pullip hobby, so other things were vying for my attention/money.

It was a 15% off plus free faceup and shipping event that broke me. Who can resist that!?

    11. I was a penniless high school student so it took me some time XD
About three years I think, and I've been a member of this forum for almost a full year before I got my first doll.

    12. About four years. I remained interested in the hobby during that time but life stuff came up that prevented me from saving up for doll stuff. Once my circumstances changed, I was able to get into the hobby as I'd wanted to.

The same. I first became interested in BJDs from seeing a friend's collection, and the forum was one of my first stops to research because she recommended it.

Sometimes, but I did more reading than posting and there was awhile where I didn't log on at all.

    13. I got into the hobby in June 2013 when my bff got her first doll home. I got on DoA maybe a week or two after that, and had my first doll by August. I bought Dylan, my Minifee, from a wonderful girl in the local meet-up group.

Around the same time I bought Dylan, I also started a layaway with Resinsoul for my Mei and Song ^^ By the middle of October I had 3 dolls =D

    14. I don't remember exactly. I think it was maybe 1-2 years with about 6 months of being interested before I made a purchase.

    15. I learned about them for maybe a year before I finally got one. It was pipos Baha that opened the floodgates. Then soom and other anthros/creatures largely drew me in further.

    16. A couple years. I also started second hand.

    17. I first discovered BJDs in high school, but waited until I finished my degree and got a full-time job before getting a doll. I sometimes lurked BJD groups that didn't require invites and jumped on the first chance to get a DoA one because I was dying to see the "big" BJD forum. I wasn't very active (I'm still more of a lurker) because the more I saw BJDs the more I wanted one. It was better for my sanity to avoid this site and just look at dolls I couldn't afford. I was a doll-less member until 2014.

    18. It's been around 4 years since I found out about BJD's and really started to get excited by them. I think it will still probably be a year more before I get my first one, I just have too many hobbies ^^; So for now I'll have to stay content to enjoy the company of my friends and theirs BJDs while I save up the rest I need to finally cave in all the way!

    19. I'm not sure when I first noticed BJDs, I think it was 2004? Right around then, anyway. They were beautiful but way out of my league, so I just kind of wrote them off as the occasional eye candy online. Then in 2007 a friend of mine bought and customized a Blythe and I thought they were the creepiest little things, but I was fascinated with customizing. I started looking at BJDs more, but still didn't consider getting any. I got a few vinyl dolls in 2010 to see if I really wanted to make the jump into doll hobby and then in 2011 I got my first BJD. All told it was about seven years before I finally got into the hobby after first seeing them.

    20. I found out about bjds 5 years ago but it was only recently that I ordered my first bjds. It's going to be a while until I receive them but I've waited so long that another several months is ok. I joined DOA just after putting my orders in.
