1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I first discovered BJDs in 2006, and got my first doll in 2011. I first discovered Luts and DoD. I didn't join Den of Angels until my first girl arrived (I didn't know about DoA until I started doing more research).

    2. Hmmm... Back in 2012 (or was it 2013?) one of the doll collectors I follow on Flickr got a RealPuki Soso secondhand.... I thought she was soooooo adorable. So I started trying to find out about her... But I was turned off a bit by the price too for such a tiny doll, and continued with my other doll collection for at least a year. But the realpuki longings returned! So I started seriously thinking about saving for one mid/late last year - same time I finally got around to joining DoA - and then changed my mind and focussed on Littlefees, and started selling stuff off this year to afford her. Now I have a Littlefee on the way!! (And not much left to sell to get another one.... oh well, I know what I'll be using my 2015 birthday/Christmas money for!!!)

    3. I've known about them for so many years that I've forgotten just how long ago it was, I got my first doll two years ago, my reason for waiting was that I was a teenager in a foster home, so I didn't exactly have any money and no family to get me one as a present. However as soon as I had the money and found one I could afford (that I wanted of course) and bought him, last year I bought one more and this year I've bought two more so far and buying another on the 2nd.
I was never a doll-less member due to not getting an invite until after a member found me on instagram and sent me one because they liked my dolls :)

    4. Almost 6 yrs......quite a long time, after the years my liking type change too, maybe is good to wait.

    5. I discovered bjds several years ago and thought they were beautiful, but not really for me. Then a couple of months ago I was admiring some OT repaints & saw one posed with a realpuki soso & kaka; I was hooked. I've now adopted a pre-loved soso & popo, have purchased a toki from DDE & have kaka on order. So from "not-for-me" to 3 (and one on the way) in 2 months!

    6. 10 years! I have no idea how I did it. Well, it I'm sure it actually had to do with lack of money.

I found out about bjds when I was 18, and broke! Now that I'm older I have addition money that I didn't have back then.

Now that I've bought one thought I feel like I can't stop! *_* I've ordered 5 in 2 months! Ah!

    7. A friend of mine exposed me to BJDs around 2005. She'd bring a doll with her to the anime conventions we attended together. I also recall her showing me DoA, though at the time I did not join.

I thought about buying a doll but, after I poked around a few of the company sites back then, the prices really scared me off. Still, over the years I would have strange moments where I'd go back onto those sites and look at the pretties. I even picked out one doll I thought I might eventually buy one day. I was under the impression that one doll would be enough :XD:

Fast forward to 2013, when another friend of mine begins telling me about her BJD acquisitions. I still insist that the hobby is way too expensive for me. Despite this, the two of us get it into our heads that some of our role play characters would be neat to shell into dolls. We ended up digging through a bunch of websites and looking for sculpts that would match drawings we'd created. We made up our list but then left it alone for a while due to budget constraints. I figured if we ever did this, it would be way in the future.

In the summer of 2014, I felt the odd urge to check on the companies that had sculpts we planned to use. As it turned out, April Story was retiring their current sculpts. Two of our characters were among the retiring sculpts. After a short period of panic, I finally bit the bullet and purchased both dolls. Lucky for me they were on sale and my friend eventually reimbursed me for her doll. Shortly after my first doll came home, my friend helped me join DoA.

Half a year later and I now have three dolls. After figuring out how layaway works, the prices seem much more doable. Still took me close to a decade to actually purchase a doll once I learned of BJDs. Kind of kicking myself for not getting started sooner, but oh well! Better now than never :)

    8. I was in my last year of High school when my sister told me about BJD's and about how she wanted one, this was back in late 2012. Not too long after that my mother and sister got me my first doll, but I didn't buy her so I don't think that's when it started. Later on in 2013 I got my first job and then started looking into the dolls a little more. I think I put my first order for an OnlyDoll that February.

    9. I learned about BJD's back in.. 2006, I think. I was still very young, but knew that I wanted to collect and customize dolls, already. I sadly could only dream of them, and as I got older, I learned alot about the hobby, just to avoid as many mistakes, as possible. Thanks to DOA, I've got much information, I joined the forum 5 years ago, and haven't been really active untill now that I've finally got my doll. I kept reading and following interesting threads, but felt too shy to actually discuss anything. But DOA taught me english, in addition!
My doll family expands, and soon, I hope to shell all my boys into perfect dolls :)

    10. Sometimes I see cheap doll deals on Yahoo Japan, and it took less than an hour for me to give in LOL
And then poor me has to resell them. D:

    11. I can't really remember a solid line between knowing about BJDs and not. I've always loved dolls. I especially loved the more expensive ones as a little girl. Unfortunately, I also had a terrible childhood. My father's longterm girlfriend ended up taking most all of them when I was little.

Since then, I've pretty much just admired them from afar. I'd look at them off and on online but never really entertained the idea of spending money on them. I have so many other financial concerns. But then my dad took his own life last year. I hadn't seen him for 14 years. Going back and finding that same girlfriend still being a horrible person, threatening me with her friends as I took things she felt should be hers. (But, legally, weren't.) Clearing out his workshop stuff, I got to thinking about loving dolls so much I wanted to make them as a kid.

I started doing ooak fashion dolls and loved it. It was inevitable that I started eying BJDs a little more earnestly. After a few months waffling back and forth, I finally brought it up with my SO. I thought, for sure, he'd think I was crazy for spending that much money. He doesn't even like dolls. He thinks they're terrifying. Surprisingly, though, he actually seems glad I've given into a hobby I'd always talked about and only teases me about the cost. It's still a long ways from doll making. I've only placed my few order a few weeks ago. I've yet to so much as actually touch a BJD. I really excited about having dolls in my life again, though.

TL;DR: Yeeears. It's taken the better part of the time I've been alive to give in.

    12. It actually took me a couple of years because at first, I though I wouldn't possibly be able to buy one due to the price and the place I live in (I thought it wouldn't sell to my country) but last year I saw a company pic of my first doll and I had to have her... It must have taken one or two months.

    13. I first really found out about bjds in 2006. That's when I was invited to join DoA and started lurking pretty hard core here =P. But I knew there was no way I could really afford a doll at that time. And so after being really obsessed with the site and bjds for a few months I kind of put it on the back burner. Every now and then I would get sucked back in and spend a few weeks looking at pictures and dreaming about the doll that I wanted.

My tastes changed a lot during that time so I'm actually really glad that I waited. I got my first doll in 2013. He is a resinsoul Dian and I have yet to really work on him or get him anything to wear (I feel so bad about that). But I'm really glad I got him because it proved to me that I could buy a bjd and that I really wanted to be in this hobby. Now I have another doll and one on the way.

So to answer the question it took me 7 years to "give in" to the call of the bjds =P.

    14. Several years. I want to say 8, maybe 9 years before I bought and then sold my first BJD.

    15. Two or three years, I think it was...

    16. i saved up for months to buy my first. id seen her on flickr and just had to buy her.
her little face just called to me.
so it took about 5 months from seeing her to ordering, only becasue i didnt have the money right away.
however my second girl was kind of impulse.
i was looking to get a small yo-sd but then fell in love with my soon to be home resinsoul ya MSD. within a week i had sold a blythe who didnt get much love and had ordered my girl.
can't wait to have her home.
so excited......... and iv already started saving for my next girl who will be a minifee celine
woops i can see this will get expensive........

    17. I found out about bjds a couple of years ago, but it wasn't until recently I became interested. I'm planning on buying my first one next year when I'll have more time for the hobby, and have been able to save up some money.

    18. Hm. Maybe about 6 months or so? I can't really recall, that was back in 2012 (holy cow, where has the time gone?!). It wasn't super long. I initially started with Monster High dolls, but it wasn't long before someone gave me an invite to DoA and I started looking into BJDs.

    19. I discovered them December 2013 and was a bum back then. I got a job February 2014 and decided I'd save for one but somehow I forgot about them. I was looking for something that can take my mind off of things and I saw some pictures of bjds. Next thing I knew I have someone on layaway after a few clicks just a month ago. :) No regrets.

    20. I became interested in bjdolls when I was 15-16 years old. But my family had absolutely no income to spend on them, so I felt ashamed to even want one, much less buy one. I was 26 before I deemed it reasonable to buy myself a doll. And it's only been a year, and now I own 3 and am waiting on a fourth xD I think I'm making up for lost time hahaha.
