1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I was a stubborn piece of work. Sure, I collected action figures, but dolls? A line had to be drawn somewhere, and they were so lifelike and creepy, not to mention expensive. Yet somehow a Pullip wormed her way into my online shopping cart. Then a Dal. Then an Obitsu. So I had to relent and admit that maybe a BJD did interest me. Not long after, I bought an Angel of Dream Lele head on Ebay. But it would be another three years before I'd purchase a full, actual BJD. So four years total. I did a lot of research in that time, and it has payed off in retrospect.

    2. Duplicate post? Okay then. Mods, delete this, please? Thank you.

    3. I have collected action figures for quite a few years and then Taeyang dolls (male Pullips). One day while searching ebay for doll things I stumbled upon a bjd. I had seen a few pics before but dismissed them as expensive and not looked into it further. I decided to look at a few and find out a bit more about them. I ended up buying two Doll-love bjds. About 6 months later I joined DoA and have since learned a whole lot more. I sold my early dolls as they just no longer appealed to me when I saw my first Ringdoll boy. Then I found Iplehouse and Soom and was a goner. I wish I had found DoA first as I would have seen more variety and bought what I loved first.

    4. Duplicate. Please delete.

    5. I was searching American Girl dolls on ebay - looking for a discontinued GOTY. For some reason the search came up with a Pullip and on the side bar of suggestions there was an Angel of Dream, Yuki. It took me two years before I ordered her. During that time, I had saved up for her over fifteen times and I chickened out of buying her every time. I finally gave in and bought her. I had found so many other dolls but Yuki - now Meia - was too perfect to pass up. She arrived on September 28, 2014. I bought Lark at a doll show on October 4, 2014. I joined DoA on December 10, 2014. I am not very tech savvy or people savvy and I couldn't figure out how to join until I learned about their facebook page. I still can't post pics...

    6. I first found out about them in around 2005/2006 when I was a teenager and kind of forgot about them for a few years; I never thought I'd be able to afford one. Then I discovered pullips and tangkou dolls and thought they would be nice to have but never bothered to buy one. Now that I have a proper job and can support myself properly I've started seriously looking into them again. I'm a doll-less member at the moment, but I hope to be ordering my first bjd in April or May. :)

I've only been a member on here for about a day so hopefully I can become a serious member of the community!

    7. I came to know about BJDs by complete accident. Around two years ago, a 9gag post about a ball jointed dragon made it to the hotpage. I googled it and found images of what I mistook for people too. It took a short while before I realized they were dolls.

The company I first got directed to by google was Souldoll. But it took all this time between that moment and now for me to come by a doll that practically begged me to get her.

I am now currently waiting for a Seung-A from Souldoll.

    8. I found out about bjds around 2006 but I didn't want one until about 2010. Only joined DOA last month though. Only ordered mine recently as well. I'm pretty active on here because I like seeing other people's. I guess I was quite hesitant due to cost and I have other hobbies too.

    9. I think it was about a year, and I only joined DOA a few months ago after having my doll for 4 years.

    10. I had actually already ordered my first BJD before I became a part of this community! I didn't know that this place existed before I had purchased my first doll, but I was recommended it by a friend and signed up soon after!

    11. Honestly, it took me about 3 years to finally give in! XD I was contemplating so long and hard, and I though about it pretty often. I wish I have gotten one sooner, because I'm still waiting for my girls. And since I waited so long, I binge ordered... And now I'm expecting 3 girls @_@ the struggle is real lol.

    12. I was lucky. I stumbled on the hobby and within a month had my first MSD with a lot of wigs, clothes, and eyes for only $25 at an anime convention I go to every year. Then, about a few months later, I ended up getting a SD on a Facebook group for about $300+ with a lot of stuff to come with her as well. It's taken me a lot longer to get a new one though (about 3 years) becuase I left the hobby and I just recently started back into it.

    13. Still holding out after nearly 3 years of discovering the hobby! Mostly because I had a lot of other things I wanted to collect first, most of which were cheaper than a BJD, but the dolls have always been at the back of my head. I've been spending most of that time trying to convince myself to finally click the button and bite the bullet, before reasoning myself out that I have to do more research before committing. Though I have a good feeling about this year, I think I'm finally going to get myself my doll (ironically not the one I thought I'd be buying when I first got into the hobby).

    14. So... after joining the hobby in 2004, I've now been out for about six years.

Don't ask how or why, but I got bit with the bug again about.. a month ago?

I held out for like two whole weeks. :doh

      Restraint... failed.

    15. I held off on joining DOA until after I got my dolls. And I got my dolls about 3 years after I started looking for them...about 5ish years ago

    16. I discovered bjds about 8 years ago. I had joined etsy and started seeing all these blythe doll clothes and unusual looking doll. I have been collecting dolls for about 20 years so I immediately became addicted. Four bjds later, I am still enticed by them.

    17. Took me two years to break. Two and a half to have my first doll in my hands. But totally worth it!

    18. I visited a local doll expo in spring 2008, this was the first time that I saw bjds among many other dolls. I was so excited to see those boy dolls in goth clothes, I still remember them very well (actually just because I took a photo then). Same year later I got into a trouble so I had to forget about the dolls or anything for awhile. Then sometime in 2011 I think, I saw a picture of Soom Lazule over the internet, I remember I was going to purchase him but then I changed my mind - I wasn't really into bjds, I had another hobby back then on the 1st place, so I didn't want to spend time on anything else.
I bought my bjd in 2014, a Supia boy. I saw his pictures on the Supia site and fell for him so hard it made me shiver with excitement, there was no way for me to change my mind about getting that particular doll. So I embraced him.
Then I got here, possessing my doll already, invited by my old and loved friend.

    19. I found out about BJDs about a year before I joined DOA. A coworker and friend had a couple of dolls that I got to spend lots of time with but it took me a long time to decide I wanted to take that plunge. I joined DOA just before I ordered my first doll, since by that point I'd decided who was coming home, it was just a matter of saving the money for another month or so.

    20. I first found out about BJDs in deviantart and thought they were pretty cool, but thought nothing of it. I think that was about 5 years ago? I recently found a friend who was trying to sell a bjd and got curious and 2 months later, I joined DoA. It took me 2 weeks to cave into buying my first BJD. I was already waiting on my first bjd by the time I joined DoA.
