1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I was on deviant art about 2 and a half years ago, and someone posted a pic of their BF May. I was intrigued and searched "blue fairy" to find the company. I saw Sarang and immediately wanted her... But I thought the price was way to much, so I would never buy it. I tried to put it out of my mind, but a year later, I still wanted her. So I decided to save for her... And I saved the full price up, chickened out, put the money in the bank, did it again, chickened out, put the money away... Finally my boyfriend said "Buy it already!!!!" and... I did! Now, I have my Sarang, a littlefee, and 3 puki O__O

    2. i first seen a BJD at like 2005. i didnt intend to get it as it was very expensive n mom would scold me.

i got my first in 2008 >< finally gave in. now i have Angel Fantasy Sheya

    3. I first became seriously interested in the hobby last year, early February. I joined DoA late February. I knew I wanted one the moment I saw them, but saving money takes time and a wanted to find the right one. While I was doll-less I was here every day! (I still am mostly!) Researching and reading up and learning how to do faceups, and re-stringing guides and what fits what sizes! Wigs and shoes and eyes! Oh my! So much to learn! I got my first doll Adell (Puki Cupid) in August. (ordered in July) Haha~ back then I thought there was only one right doll! Now I have two and a third incoming! :)

    4. I can give an exact date for when I learned of BJDs... http://modthesims2.com/download.php?t=225411
I downloaded that skin the day it was released, so Mar 25 2007. I had no idea what BJD meant, but the skin looked neat. Probably wouldn't have thought anymore about it, but somebody started a thread on the discussion forum (S2C) asking what BJDs were, and since I'd just seen that term on the skin I'd downloaded I was curious and took a look. Shimmeringcat was very helpful to all us poor confused souls... and many of us now have multiple dolls...
I spent the week drooling over doll pictures and checking and rechecking my budget... on the Saturday I ordered Tanal's body (to jump on a 1/2 price sale), an hour later I joined DoA, the following Friday I ordered Tanal's head (yep, it was easier to decide what body I liked best than what head), head arrived the next Friday, and the body two weeks after that.

    5. A year and a half, more or less. A friend in the UK introduced me to the hobby and gave me the DOD website - I was half-interested in Si, but the price was too much at the time. Then my friends in HK started saving and I got a part-time job, and before I knew it, a huge doll was sitting on my desk...

I didn't join until I got my second doll.

    6. When I first discovered BJD's I was really not all that into them and when my friend asked me if I would ever buy one (since she was considering getting one) I told her "I highly doubt it." But when I was at ASC I passed a dollfie vendor and talked to the girls there but more or less to talk to them and not about the dolls. :sweat the second time I passed them I saw one of the dolls they just put out and I fell head over heels in love.

      But I couldn't afford him!!!:...(

Then five months later at Megacon I passed the same vendor & lo and behold there was my boy. :aheartbea (I left that con so very broke) I actually joined DOA while we were still at the con the night I bought my SD.

    7. I saw my sisters BJD for, my guess, abt a year ago. Then I get in to DoA in january 2009 for real and now I have put me on a list for my fist own doll. Soom Cuprit human body only.
      And I'm waiting... :aheartbea

    8. I found out about BDJs I think somewhere between 2000, to 2002 I think, but at the time, they creeped me out rather than made me think they were pretty... So in that sense, I held out for a nice long while... It was with a recent look at the volks website while checking out the DD Saber that I ended up finding the SDC line and sorta lose all semblance of control... I think about 3 days in to spotting the SDC Ren, I was scouring the Yahoo Auctions to try to find a full set... That was late last December IIRC... Totally bit the bug with that one, and now I'm looking at possibly getting my 4th/5th doll... I consider myself very lucky that thus far I've only found Volks dolls to be particularly attractive... I'm sure in a few more months, I'll be trying to scratch the itch for SOOM or something... Hopfeully that won't be the case as it's getting a bit strange trying to find space for all of them and their stuff...

    9. I first found out about BJD's in May of 2007 when a friend of mine was planing on getting her first one. I thought they were great but a little out of my price range so didn't give it much thought. After she got her first I joined DOA just to look at her pictures. Then in August of 2007 we were driving to a convention and I had her bernard on my lap. I was sunk and ordered my first one about a month later and have just placed an order for my 6th full doll.

    10. A couple of years.

    11. Uhh... ::counts:: 7 years or so? :)

Then once I started, it was all downhill from there xD

    12. I first started seeing them at anime conventions probably about 5 or 6 years ago. About 3 years ago, I got to hold one for the first time. I also had a friend who kept showing me pictures of them. I found one I wanted in the later part of 2008 and began saving. I got my first this year, 2nd the month after that, and 3rd is on layaway. x_x

So it probably took me about 5 years before I actually gave in. I probably would have-- SHOULD HAVE gave in earlier when I had more money.

I was only doll-less on DOA for about two weeks, if that.

    13. well i triped over a pic of a Unoa in google around april or may of 2004. i hung around that site for about 6 months looking at her other dolls and their photostories. then i started googling BJD and found luts. i fell in love with their delf shiwoo, but he was too expensive, so i drooled for a while and kept cheking back at the other site for more photostories. in 06 i found a pic with a link of a DOD leya on DA. i liked their Yen and he was a more reasonable price range for me so i saved for 4 months and ended up getting Twingkey instead lol. it was about halfway thru the witing period when some on on the Q&A board gave me a link to DoA. that was back in march of 06 <3

    14. well, I had to wait til I could afford it, which was almost a year from when I joined this forum. It was just over a year from when I truly discovered them though.

It did give me ample time to really research these dolls (their pros & cons, tricks & quirks about them, etc.). So it was time well spent. So I think it is good that you are taking the time to do the same while you save.

    15. I can't give the exact time frames you're asking for, but I do know that what I considered my "giving in" point was measured in the time from when my best friend (now roommate) started talking about ordering her first doll and showing his picture off to us, and when I finally broke down and started learning more, and eventually falling in love to the point of realizing, "I need a doll."
...I'm pretty sure that makes it about a year, then. Maybe more. I held out in the face of living with her beautiful boy, the second doll arriving at our dorm... and then our friend's boy came over to visit and I crumbled. Roommate is very smug.

    16. Two years from the first time I saw an ABJD to the time I ordered one. At the time I discovered this branch of the doll world I was in a collecting lull and attending an incredibly expensive school. Now I'm in a better financial situation and back to being doll crazy (plus I have a couple nice investment dolls currently maturing) so I've started in on the purchasing.

    17. i knew Bjds 6 years ago,but i ordered my first boy few weeks ago~while i was searching for my doll then i found DoA ^^

    18. I saw BJD all the time in the online store I usually buy from, but never really got interested on them until a month ago. I was browsing the site as usual, looking for new PVC statues and gashapons (or similar collectibles), and came across one of the 1/6 Obitsu dolls. It caught my eye and I began looking for information in the net - and got my first doll less than a week afterwards.
I came to learn about DOA because quite a number of links, references and comments redirected me to this forum. May I add, I've spent most of April in a rather anxious state, since registration for new members was closed at the time and I kept on checking the site from time to time.

    19. When I first found out about BJDs, I thought they were neat, some of them very beautiful, but I didn't think I would get into collecting them-- I wasn't really a 'doll person', and I had too many other things I was into to think about another hobby (ha!). My brother had an interest in them purely as a sculptor, and I had seen some lovely photos on deviantart, and then some lovely dolls at ALA. Then my sister got into them and started saving, and...

I could no longer resist their siren call. Once they were a common topic of discussion and she was showing me pictures of different sculpts, I was lost. I started saving up a little while ago.

As for being an active-but-doll-less DoA member... that's me! Until that big beautiful box hits my doorstep probably sometime in January (possibly in early February, we'll see how shipping goes), I am a doll-less DoA member. But being active is a great way to educate myself about this hobby I'm getting into, and quite fun.

      =^__^=

    20. 2004 I was first introduced to BJDs, but they weren't for me.
2006 I was introduced to a few companies and got interested in them. Couldn't find one for me.
2008 I fell in love with Iplehouse, and 2009 I not only signed up with DoA (after months of avoiding it for fear of the CRAZY DOLL PEOPLE O_O) but I caved and bought a doll that was right for me. ^^

      Wow... nearly 5 years. o_o;;;;;;
