1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I think I first discovered BJDs around nine years ago, I fell in love before I saw the price and let go of the dream. Fast forward to around a year ago and I suddenly discovered that a friend of a friend collects BJDs so we got talking, the price still put me off though and I ended up going for Pullips and Monster High instead. Until I saw the Little Rebel sculpts at the end of last year and couldn't resist any more, now I have one Little Rebel head and plans for at least two more :D

    2. I'm still saving!! I collect Blythes and I think I'm now ready to collect Minifees! :P

    3. I have known about BJDs for some years, but as there are so many companies and sculpts, I just watched and learned. I recently started adding my first BJDs to my doll collection (I also collect Blythe dolls) as I think I now know which BJDs are right for me. I only joined DOA after I ordered my first BJD. ;)

    4. I joined in March, though I knew of abjd for longer than that. I've been trying to be patient so when I buy my first resin 1/3rd it wouldn't be at a bad time financially, and I have a head and a body I have my eyes on that I hope to buy very soon. I figured I would buy a few previously owned pieces (that I like) in order to help the wait for the other dolls I want but intend to buy direct from the company. Right now I'm fighting very hard to be responsible and wait just a few more hours to see how the finances will look for the beginning of the next month, but I'm just about ready to cave and buy the head and grab the doll body soon after. But by the time the end of the first week of May rolls around I'll very likely have my first 1/3rd at home and played with, assuming everything goes well.

    5. I saw my first BJD about 10 months ago. At the time I thought they were beautiful but not something for me. Then about a little over 3 weeks ago I saw one that just screamed to me "You need to get one". So, just about 3 weeks after I saw him I ordered the same one.

I joined Den of Angels 12 days ago.

    6. I learned about BJD's just a few months ago when my friend introduced me to his Dollmore BJD and I fell in love!!! Ordered one of my own within the week and just picked her up from the Post Office today!!! While I was waiting I also bought a Minifee from Ebay and I love her dearly too!!! I discovered DOA shortly after buying my BJD's and have only been here a few short weeks. I'm still learning how to navigate this site and hope to learn a lot and make many friends!!!

    7. I saw my first BJD in 2011 and I fell in love with her, it was Linda Macario's Iris. When I saw her price tag I thought they were out of my reach and put the thought out of my mind until a year or two later when I stumbled upon dollzone scarecrow Hal. When I realized that there were different price ranges I decided that one day I would own a doll. I joined DoA recently just a few months ago and have been having a hard time fitting in. I felt like I couldn't relate to anything yet because I didn't have a doll but, I'm going to be ordering my first doll tomorrow! :D I've decided to go with doll leaves Ethan. I love his head sculpt and if I decide that I really love BJDs and want to get another (which I'm sure will happen eventually) I'll be going with dollmore Alex.

I'm hoping to become a more active member since I finally have something I feel like I can talk about.

    8. I fell in love with the whole BJD scene in 2009 i think.
But i ordered my doll in April 2015.
So it took me quite some time.
I think the fact that he would be discontinued played a big role in making the choice to buy him.

    9. I found out about BJDs back in 2009 and I was going to purchase one after reading up on it a bit the lack of money was an issue. joined DOA in June 2014 and got my first BJD doll a month later :D

    10. About 4 months.....xD

    11. It's been a long journey for me. I was big time into fashion doll repaints (I had a small studio at home, where I experimented alot with customization) in the late '90s, and in the early 2000's I was browsing around the internet looking for more and found the Crystal Castle, a site run by a very talented woman who made many, many customized fashion dolls, alot of it based on "Wheel of Time". I was enchanted by the japanese fashion dolls she used to make alot of her creations, so I started scouting sites and bumped into Azone, then Volks. I started taking a long look at U-noss dolls and trying to figure out how to buy one (the sites were all in japanese at the time). It wasn't long before the BJD craze hit north american shores, hard. I got the "Haute Doll" magazine issue featuring Volks (with Isao Nanjou and Jun Tachibana on the front cover) and I was madly in love. There was alot going on in my life at that time however, and I had a ton of expenses so I ended up putting BJDs on the back burner. A few years later a lovely lady who shopped at the store I was working at introduced me to Bobobie, and I bought a pair for my oldest child, and there was another lady who came into the store and showed me a really high end doll (I know it was from China, but I can't remember the company) and got me looking at all the fantasy dolls that had suddenly sprouted up all over the web :)

But it was super expensive for me, as I was into other hobbies at the time, and once again I put things on the back burner until I started watching Batchix videos on Youtube...and attended Doll North for the first time ever (I worked a small dealer's booth at Anime North for many years, but had not even heard of it before ><). I fell completely for Batchix's Orpheus boy, and was delighted when I found out he was for sale...two years and two Batchix dolls later, I have a small studio completely devoted to dolls and dollmaking, and am working on churning out outfits for BJDs and Azones, so in a way, the whole thing has come full circle for me. My BJD wishlist is so positively massive that I have no space to type it all out. I know I'm hooked for life, there's no saving me :p

    12. It took me a couple of years since I first discovered BJDs till I finally order my first one.
During that time I was very active in a lot of forums, DoA included, because I wanted to know everything about dolls before having one. I also loved to see other people's galleries, and comment them when I liked the photographies.

    13. Hmm..I've been into BJDs since 2010 and I still do not own one. When I first heard about them, I was like "Who would even pay that much...?" but I still wanted it. So, I took a turn and looked into Pullips. I was like..14 at the time, so I couldn't buy it on my own. I asked my mom, but she told me no. She thought $130 was too much for a doll, lol. I think about..a year (maybe not that long)later, I was like "You know what? I really like BJDs more." So I started looking into them more and seeing what they're actually all about. So, I've pretty much been researching ever since then and now that I have the money for it, I plan on purchasing one two weeks from now.

    14. Well over 3 years, haha, took that long to pick out a doll. :sweat

    15. It had been about two years since I first heard about them, but I wasn't very into them. They were pretty, but expensive, and I was still in high school and wasn't interested.

Then I found them again and I had a job then, so when my paycheck came in I bought my first doll off JunkySpot, a ResinSoul Tang.

So between my discovering the hobby and buying one was about three years. between actually wanting one and buying one was maybe a month.

    16. I'm really curious on how long people have waited! I'm getting pretty up there (almost 10 years) and wanted to know if anyone's in the same boat. I get very ancy seeing all those pretty dolls! The most I've collected is some Figmas, monster highs and a Pullip doll that I do adore, but feel like I'm not getting the same satisfaction out of it that I would have with a ball jointed doll.

    17. I first found out about ball jointed dolls around the summer of 2004 and desperately wanted one but being only 14 my mother was apprehensive to let me spend so much money on a doll and offered to help me buy a Blythe instead. I didn't quite like them however and a girl doll was not what I was after... Plus even though we researched ways to buy online were still pretty obscure in Greece and especially in my family at the time so there was trouble with that as well. So, I used a small porcelain doll as a surrogate while I kept researching the hobby on and off for the next several years. I was about to take the plunge in December of 2010 but unforseen expenses held me off from acquiring my first doll until the following summer. I ordered Nowe, my Doll Leaves Wish, in August of 2011 a small while after my birthday :) All in all it took me seven years!

    18. I found about BJDs on 2003, it was Luts site I think and I was in love. I was younger at the time and didn't had any money of my own, I had to wait 3 years to order my first one. I decided to join money the whole year on 2006 and order my first one as a birthday gift to myself. Totally worth, still remember the excitement when I got her package :)

    19. I got my first (and only doll) 3 weeks after becoming interested in bjd's. I saw his sculpt at a convention, fell in love with him immediately and knew he was the one I wanted.

    20. I was interested in BJD about 3-4 years before I ordered my first doll. At that time, my friend sent me a photo of DOD dolls and since then, I had been searching and reading articles about BJD. My first dream doll was Volks Okita Souji second version, although he was already sold out, so I got another doll as my first instead. (But in the end I did get Okita but the 3rd version with romantic head instead. :XD:)
