It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. I first found them around 2003, I think, I know I was still living with my parents, in school and only working part time in summer, and there was no way I could get one. In 2006, after I was on my own and working full time, I did a little more serious research, but still could not even come close to affording one, so I got a 1/6 Obitsu to try to fill the void. It worked for awhile, but in early 2008, I decided I HAD to have resin. It took a few months of selling just about everything of value that I owned, but eventually on April 2, 2008, I ordered my first doll. :D So, for me, about 5 years.

    2. I don't even remember when it really was - I just know that I started seeing those gorgeous pictures and wondered what they were exactly.
Back then I already fell in love but there was no way I could afford one, so there were many years of just casually looking at photos before I had money 'left over to spend' and suddenly realized I could spend it on a BJD!

    3. I remember watching (then reading) Rozen Maiden, and at the same time I went to my first comic con and saw a BJD for the first time. I think that got me sort of interested in them. It wasn't for another 2 years until I was seriously looking at buying one though....Funny I was only supposed to get one...but I can't seem to stop planning on getting more :) oh well

    4. I found out about bjd around 2008, back then I was around 14 or 15 and of course I couldn't afford a bjd back then (And my parents didn't allow me to buy it). I remembered Soom released God Master Heliot and I've always thought that will I ever own a bjd one day. 5 years later I got my first bjd (Little Monica Harmony Kliff Renewal ver.), and I still have him with me till today. :aheartbea

    5. I've known the hobby for about two years (found out about it during December of 2012) before buying my first doll on, surprisingly, December of 2014.
Sadly, I'm still waiting for my first doll (Damn you Dollshe! :|) but nevertheless, I'm glad I finally bought one. It was such an exciting but also a very scary event. I have no idea I can throw away $$$ just like that. When I first knew about the hobby, I grimaced at the thought of spending so much money. However, after overcoming the money issue, spending hundreds of dollars on a doll became an easier battle to conquer.

    6. It took about 6 years I think. I friend from a Avatar site really liked the dolls so I got hockt, but I could never afford one. So I forgot all about the dolls until 2011 on a anime convention a booth sold Obitus and I fell in love again. But it still took untill the end of june to buy my first doll. So now I'm whaiting and I'm so happy!

    7. @Sholestica wow that's what I call the angelic patience :D congrats on finally getting one though <3

with me it was over half a year between finding out about them, and actually deciding I cna't live without at least one bjd.

Though being a doll-less DoA member? Not me xD it took much over two years for me to actually register. And? No regrets since then - I like it in here :D

Generally, I think all the things came too late. I mean, I missed the releases of all the cute limited/discontinued bjds and could only get them second hand now (like most of my current crew :3). Same wit the forum(s)/community. it's as nostalgic as it gets when a 90s kid wishes they were born in the 60s so as to be 20 in the 1980s xD You know what I mean ;)

    8. I would've given in right away had jobs permitted, really I thrived on the time between seeing and owning as researching. My ultimate goal was to do a faceup I was proud of on my first ever doll, it took a lot of testing and learning. I gave in just this year, saw them in the early 2000's.

    9. Thanks, I'm looking so forward to the doll.

    10. I remember seeing pictures of them online when I was in middle school (in college now), but thought they were all thousands of dollars so I never bothered to look them up.

Then last October, a BJD vendor came to our local Japan Festival. I was told I could get a doll that looked like what I had in mind through her, and I emailed her the next day. I was smitten, and had finally found my inspiration to get back into sewing.

    11. I first saw one in late summer in 2007. I was determined to have one from the first moment I saw one. I had to find a better paying job, and save my money for a while, I got my first on May 19, 2008, a birthday gift to myself. So, it was almost a year.

    12. The first time i saw a bjd, a minifee Chloe in a forum, was nearly 2 or 3 years ago.. i could resist.. until now. Now i want one.. and a loongsoul msd too .. after i saw my first msds live on a dollmeet.

    13. I was able to hold in your hand jointed dolls three years ago. They were dolls dollshe. I was just fascinated by their plasticity and charisma. But six months did not dare to buy such an expensive thing. And then I saw on the secondary market the doll, which could not refuse. It was my favorite Fayte ( Dollshe Saint). And me even the price didn't scare. x))
Thought it would be only one doll. But now I have seven. All dollshe all different. And now my family and friends know what a gift for me, the most coveted:)

    14. I discovered bjds back in 2012 through Deviantart. At the time, the prices scared me off. Instead, I tried making one but that failed. I gave in this year in April.

    15. I had seen my first BJD about 5 years ago. After I saw the prices for one of them, I never bothered to do anymore research about the hobby. I just admired them from the beautiful images I would see on Flickr but I wouldn't dare look them up or I would become sucked in. I finally gave in June of this year and I'm currently waiting for her to come home.

    16. I received a YoSD doll as a gift maybe 5 years ago , but I was never crazy about her and just set her up on my shelf and forgot about her. I never bothered to find out more about BJDs then. I had previously collected Gene Marshall dolls and was looking at Evangeline Ghastly and some of the other vinyl fashion dolls, but they weren't really doing it for me. I finally bought a Delilah Noir doll, as I was interested in her articulation and removable eyes, but when I got her I was like, "Nope. This is just not good enough!"

And then I stumbled across pictures of some SD-sized BJDs and it was like, "There! There they are!" But of course the price totally scared me off. After more internet wandering I found MSD-sized dolls and eventually bought my first one, a Batchix Lagoon.

So if you discount that first YoSD that didn't really trigger anything for me, it was just a few months from when I discovered BJDs to my first purchase of one. Seven months later, I now have ten in hand, one about to ship, and one on layaway. When I fall, I fall hard. :)

    17. I was looking around to see what I liked and then 'life' happened... enough that many aspects of my life got shelved for several years. I made due with 20-40 dollar Barbie type buying every few months to do a 'dolly fix'. I never stopped totally looking though... I also had not been able to get into DoA for a long time... my account got messed up for a while. After my mom finally passed I decided to get into bjd gear. I had also talked to mom about making a commemorative type doll in her memory (yes she liked the idea too ^^). After she was gone I was leafing through a doll magazine and spotted an add for an FDQ special outfit (it even had story to go with it LOL) and it embodied one aspect of the type of doll I wanted.... and the doll modeling it... omg I think I died a bit. He was perfect... but I had no clue who/what he was.... I finally ferreted out all the info. The doll was an LE Soul Doll... my heart broke... The doll was already a year old... >< But it seemed luck was on my side and I found who was selling him (originally)... A dealer had commissioned the doll... and that version embodied the other aspects of what I wanted... As luck would have it... she still had some!.... Full set even! How fast did it take to decide to get him.... no time at all. The only extra time it took was figuring out how her order system worked lol :XD:

So initially it took years because of things outside the hobby getting in the way (or I'd have found something before my true start). But after things got under control... almost instantly if you don't count the 'looking where to get it' time...

I guess I 'caved' right away, was ready willing and able to get into things but had to wait on other life junk to clear out of the way before I in a way had proper access?

    18. I first discovered BJDs almost ten years ago while I was browsing through a doll magazine. Years later I rediscovered them again, and decided to do some research on them. From then on, I knew I needed to get one! About five years later, I finally brought my first BJD home (and that was just this past summer :) ).

    19. I first saw them at Dragon Con in 2007 or 2008 - a little group of Goth Lolitas had their babies in violin cases. Looking back, I feel sure I saw a couple Delf (one dressed as Sebastian, the other female), a Ducan, & a Black Cat Lucas. I just looked. But later I found a dealer selling little stuff - the SHOES!!! I was so enthralled, but when I saw the price of the shoes alone, I just backed off cause I had no money LOL
So I bided my time until some investments matured - which didn't happen until 2011 :( And then just got lots of dolls LOL I did do a lot of research prior to buying, BTW.

    20. I saw photo's online and thought....omg...I have never seen anything so beautiful... so after a few months of research I purchased my first doll, so I guess I didn't hold out for long, but it wasn't impulsive either, I've always loved dolls, these dolls are exceptional, and addictive.
