1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. Saw my first doll --old school-- doll magazine! (I'm not sure even who still buys those). That was pretty recent. I was really amazed by them. Kind of surprised at the price. I thought they were pretty expensive for resin. I've always loved dolls. I never really "collected" modern dolls though. Bjds are different. So to make a long story longer... I saw Narae. I ordered Briar (also seen in a magazine) -- I couldn't get a feel for the size -- Went on line -- found DOA -- probably was a few weeks from start to receiving my first. I ordered Narae. Tired of waiting :(so I ordered BBB Lan. Yeah, pretty much hooked now. I want to wean off (buying new ones) -- not until I get a Supia, and possibly a Limhwa and enchantment doll Ylisande (?sp). At this rate, I'll have spent more on dolls than anything else:lol:

    2. I survived three years without one ._. it was tough.

    3. I saw a really nice photo on DA and was like "omg, that's no real human, it has to be photomontage, how awsome" Then I read the decription and got a link to bobobie if I remember correctly. I found those dolls really interesting and did some research, and well after some time I really started to like the thought of having a bjd myself, mainly because I liked how much you can actually do with them. All the sewing, modding and making little things for them is a great way to live out your creativity. Plus I like the fact they are so easy to costumize and look way more realitik than most other kinds of dolls.

Yeah long story. After about 2 months I joined DoA to get more information on a few questions and ordered my first doll shortly after that ... and still waiting.

    4. I saw my first BJD last year in the early spring. For a few months I tried to say that they were overpriced and not worth it etc etc but it failed. lol
I ended up buying one in May. xD

    5. Well, thanks to my boyfriend, I've known about BJDs since 2007 and I've been in love with them since. It took me about a year before I finally threw caution to the wind and bought one...
But I bought his first. He's been into BJDs for SO much longer than me.
It wouldn't have been fair to him.

    6. For me it was about a year. xD
I had found out about BJD at a convention in August and I was determined to get one. My sister told me, "look. I've known about dolls for a while. They're expensive and I doubt you'll have one anytime soon."
I told her that I'd have a doll in the next two years, mark my words. And lo' and behold!
Come November the UPS truck was knockin' on my door!

      >D

    7. I have known about them for several years. Other doll communities that I am a member of have sections for bjds. I never took the leap until early this year when I saw a picture of someone's Pet Ari Dalsoo. I saw the Nara and I was hooked on the anthros. I actually had her before joining DoA.

    8. I found the original Dollfies on the web nearly a decade ago and wanted one then, but was way put off at the price.
I joined DoA about a month before I placed the order for my first doll at the end of last May.
All in all, it was almost a ten year road to owning my first BJD.

    9. I don't remember the exact date my mother sent me that fateful link to eluts and dod going 'look at these pretty dolls!'... But I do remember that I was very put off by the price. I didn't look at them much until I was trying to find a good picture of a mannequin for a school project. I ended up thinking back to the ball jointed dolls and ended up looking them up for the project. After that I kept going back to those two sites, just amazed by how lovely and detailed they were.

So Sanyu will be 2 years old this October, so I got her in 2007, right after I got the check for the remaining amount on the student loan I had that fall.

I had been looking at her for a while... actually going back and forth between her and another character of mine. Around the summer I guess was when I started looking into seriously getting one. I joined here in June... and I was browsing for a few weeks before then. I did a lot of research before I joined, and then even more before I got Sanyu.

So I suppose I went for about 4 months or so from the point of seriously considering one and getting one. At the time I figured one a year would be an acceptable pace. At the time I was also living with my parents and really good at saving up, especially since I had no bills and a job. Yeah... so much for that. ^_^()

    10. Hmmm, it's been several years. I come from a family of doll collectors (and crafters), and I was blown away by BJDs when I first saw them, but they were definitely out of my price range at the time. They reintroduced themselves to me when I started going anime conventions with a friend. Three years after that (2009), she bought one (and immediately bought a second). Then we went to a meet. Now that I'm an auntie I really really want one (or three) of my own.

    11. I gave in and started saving last september, 10 months after I had found out about BJDs and had gotten into Blythe. I really hope my parents can sell our old car, because they've promised me some doll help, haha. I'm praying to at least be able to order him before my birthday in July, but now that Souldoll's offering Killian in WS, I have to wait until they've posted new pictures of him to decide what skin tone I want...ahhhh!

    12. I think I learned about BJDs when I got into college. They frightened me at first, but now I find them to be so beautiful! Unfortunately, I still am doll-less because I'm super broke, however I know which one I want, so I at least have a goal. Hopefully in the near future I can get her :D

    13. About a year, I think. I actually saw them through a photo montage labeled "Can you believe people spend a years' worth of salary on these?" Haha.

I was enthralled and immediately visited the Volks website (the only company I knew of at the time), and was stunned at the price. I couldn't imagine spending over $600 on a doll! I tried to content myself with a Dollfie Plus, but that was rather futile (I'd seen DoA during this time, but was too shy to join without owning a BJD).

So finally, about a year after I discovered BJDs, I gave in and brought home my first girl and then joined DoA about a month later. I was so excited when she arrived, I basically mauled the post man. XD

    14. I've seen first pictures of bjds a long, long time ago... Does this count? Because I wasn't interested in them at all.

Well, it's been about two years since I became Rozen Maiden fan and decided that I want to have a RM doll... But I suppose it doesn't count either. It was just a dream, I didn't search for any information about bjds or anything.

So, when I finally decided to buy myself a doll, chose her, ordered her and joined doa... I think it was about three weeks ago.

    15. I saw my first BJD at a doll show in Portland. I was new to the area and expecting to see vintage dolls (which I was selling, too). When I saw people walking around with these fabulous dolls, I couldn't wait to find them. There was one seller in a huge area with big bright lights and it was like walking into another world. I don't think I've left it yet.:)

    16. Let's see... I saw it posted one posted on Deviantart--a picture of one, actually, and instantly fell in love. I checked the prices and didn't give one hoot, I still bought whichever one I wanted. I always have loved dolls and I already have plenty of different kinds of dolls; but it's just now that my mother suggested collecting dolls. Which I will, of course. :D

    17. I actually don't remember when I first saw one. :sweat
But I first seriously got interested in October of 2007 and my first doll was ordered in the very beginning of May 2008.
Sooo it took me about 8 months, although I'm sure it would have been sooner if I had a job when I first became interested. :XD:

I didn't join DoA until March of 2008, shortly after I got my job.
I don't really know why I waited. I guess I just felt that without a job, I'd never get a doll and without a doll I shouldn't be on the forums.
Which isn't true at all, I actually wish I would have joined sooner haha. Oh well!

    18. I'm a doll-less member. D:
I discovered BJDs about a year ago (lol, Lutz was the first site I looked at too, and the prices definitely scared me off for a while). Now that I've spent so many hours looking at (drooling over) pictures, I finally decided to join DoA and start saving for my first. Will probably be a while before I can get him (grrr, priorities, lol) but I have finally come to terms with the fact that I MUST own one of these beauties! :D

    19. I haven't got one but i wnated to buy one w/ in the 10 seconds i saw one. XD

    20. It took about a month from when i first got interested in bjd's ( i was practically stalking the soom website for that time), i started with blythe then saw different dolls on the australian forum we play with dolls! I love my aren!!!
