1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long before you gave in?

Apr 12, 2009

    1. Hmm this is a good question Ovo
I drooled at different dolls within the first year of falling into BJDs, but finally deciding on Clavis about half a year into DoA, so my timeline was like this

      BJD (2years ago) >1year> DoA(about a year ago) >a few months> Clavis (5 months ago)

      Did anyone get that?

    2. Three weeks.

      I'm ashamed... or not.

    3. When I first saw a Volks doll back in 2003, I thought they were interesting, but I kind of thought they were just Asian style Barbies or something. About four years along the line, I was looking on a favorite artist's site where she had a list of links to her favorite doll sites, including places to buy dolls. At the time, my favorite was Souldoll (I still remember that old green layout!) and I would just save pictures to my computer, and have dreams of one day owning like 10 of them (and at the time I thought there were only a few companies that sold them) and dressing them up (I can't remember how I found out, but I knew you could change everything about them)

However, it wasn't until last year, when a friend from DevART posted some pictures of her doll, that I up and decided I actually wanted to go through with it and get one. I joined DoA shortly afterwards (I knew about DoA probably since around the time it first came out, but never joined because at the time, I hated forums) and got my first doll in March (so I was a non doll-owning member for only like 6 months)

Soooooo, I guess the total is around 6 years and some months, between the time I said "Hey, those are pretty cool dolls!" to "She's here!! Time to order another~" ^^

    4. Hmm, first heard about them in about 2005, I'll guess? when I saw some early Souldolls on an anime cel site. Was not particularly interested in them because of the price, but didn't really have a good grasp of what they actually were compared with any other sort of doll.

I got my first guy in July 2006, so it took me something between 1 to 1.5 years to give in. About 3 weeks after I joined DoA :)

    5. I've known about BJDs since... 2006 even, I guess.
But I've started to get official with my fascination just recently. And few days ago I have started making preparations for creatin process. I could buy one straughtaway - I'm lucky to have a good, well-paid job, so Dollfies are basically affordable fpr me. But I'd like to make my very own one.

Now, I'm still doll-less and attempting to be active since I want to get as much into this society as possible.

    6. found out about them in...
cant remember. I was about 13 and I'm 20 now xD so uite a while, iv'e had my dolls for about two years but I always knew I was going to get one... eventually.

    7. It took me all of a day. I saw one for the first time at a con a few years ago (in 2006) and went home and ordered my Chiwoo.

I don't like to wait. I saw something I wanted... and I bought it.

    8. I believe I first found out about them in 2006? Shortly after, I found out about this site, and joined! I was very interested in them when I first encountered them. I really, really, REALLY wanted one! But after finding out about price, I think I became a bit discouraged. I was only like 16.. I didn't have any money, and the only way I would get one is if my parents got it for me... Not much luck there. But I still roamed around the site.. But that only happened less, and less. I don't think I lost complete interest.. But it was the last thing on my mind. Lol.
But every time I'd go to a Con, and see one. I just had to look them up again. See what new things had come about. And look back on the old ones. Until like late 2007, 2008, I think. Which is when I found a doll I really, really, wanted. I would look at her all the time at the site. I don't believe I had a job just yet. But eventually it would kinda wonder out of my mind. Lol. After I got my job.. The thought of saving for a doll just didn't cross my mind. I was busy saving for school (Which I haven't attended yet), and a car. Doll, not on top of my list. Until it became Christmas. I got a bunch of money I didn't expect to get! $300 and something. I was like whoa! Wtf am I gonna use this for?! Until it finally clicked! I'mma get me a doll! So, I was doll-less for almost 3 yrs? I ordered my first doll on new yrs eve last year! Arriving a month and like a week later.

And that's what happened with me. XDD

    9. For me, it was around 3 years ago? x3 A friend of a friend of mine, had her dolls posted up on DA. Since then, I've been lurking in her DA journal, to try and find out what they were, and what price range they were at. I had only found out about DoD, not any other companies. D: Then, I joined DoA, around early May, I started to research more about the dolls and caring for them, and I weighed my options. Such as layaway vs immediate buy. xD Sounds so scientific! But it was about two weeks? Before I made my decision to purchase my first BJD. I'm not regretting it! :3

    10. I started liking BJDs almost exactly 3 years ago. Then I lurked here for a while without joining because I felt odd joining without owning a doll but in the end I decided to join anyway. I STILL don't have a doll but I hope that changes very soon!

    11. Well Ive liked bjds for a few years almost got a little lati yellow the first time i found out about them but the price stopped me. Those few years went by and i got pullip dolls and little apple dolls till this year i just put my first doll on layaway i guess i can kinda say shes mine. lol

    12. when I saw a volks dollfie on the internet i was a little creeped out but when i saw the volks Momoko dollfie, i fell for them very quick. It took me a long time to get the courage to get one cause I'm a very shy person that easily gets embarrased and nervous :sweat but now I have a Bianka and that is close to a Momoko. ( It would be one hell of a miracle if I got her)

    13. 4 months.
      But i caved.
HE WANTED ME TO BUY HIM :...(

    14. Actually I gave in as soon as I saw them.
I was on Deviantart and I saw the dolls. THEY WERE GORGEOUS!
I didn't know what they were called though. So I spent like 3 days looking up 'dolls' imagine my surprise... I couldn't find them! Finally, while I was doing a random search I found one. I looked it up, they didn't say what it was!! T.T
After like a week, someone was kind enough to tell me their names. After I looked them up... it was love at first sight. :D

    15. Oh lord, I remember first seeing them thanks to a Malaysian friend who gave me the link to Dream of Doll about...four years ago. I wanted one SO BAD back then, but I had no way of convincing my parents to buy me one or save up enough money to order one by myself.
Now I'm older and thanks to a close friend who happened to get one just recently before we went to an anime convention, my interest was ignited again. So now I'm saving up, quite determined this time to get at least ONE BJD to satisfy my craving. XD

So yeah...Four years I have staved myself off. 8'D

    16. I first saw BJD's in, hmm, 2000 or 2001? At first I was not at all impressed -- I recall seeing a grainy catalog picture of Nono at D&H and thought that she looked like a bug, and the unjointed less mature torso was so different than what I was used to. I was into Dollfies (I mean that in the correct sense, lol) for awhile before I started giving Super Dollfies a closer look. And once I looked at owner pics of them on DoA (on yahoo), I was pretty much toast. I wanted one! Though I didn't get one right away . . . I had to do a massive saving/selling spree to be able to afford my first. ;)

    17. A few months.

    18. The very first BJD I saw was in a short article in Newtype magazine. I forget how long ago that was, actually, but I didn't think much about it. Later on I joined Deviant Art in mid '06 and came across some photos of a fellow artists ABJD and I absolutely fell in love. *3*

She had links in her blog to various ABJD websites. The first one I clicked on was Dream of Doll and I was a goner! After seeing Homme Ducan, it took me about half a year to save up for him, and he arrived in January of '07. ^_^

I actually didn't come across Den of Angels until much later, and finally joined the forums in August 2007. I guess I'm a bit backwards like that, *laughs*. Oh well.

    19. Haha. I first actually started LOOKING at the BJD's about.. August of last year. And as a matter of fact, got my first doll about 2 weeks ago XD
