1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Long Before You Named Them / The Importance of Naming

Jun 15, 2008

    1. i think its important to have something to call them before they get home. most of the dolls i have seriously considered buying had names within 24 hours of looking at them

im buying my first doll now. a soom heliot and im doing the 5 month layaway. even though i had five months i didnt have a name for him when it hit "check out" and i was so stressed out lol. now ive decided to call him siren, if i dont think it fits him when he gets here i can change it. i just didnt want him to come home without a name for fear i'd call him "dolly" or "heliot" for so long i get used to it and cant name him something cool.

but other than him, a shiwoo, and a soony all the other dolls im going to buy in the future already have names.

      siren is cool enough. =]

    2. I second that ;)

    3. I felt the same way when I got Nori. I just couldn't come up with a name I felt fit him, and was worried that if I couldn't name him I would have trouble bonding with him, too. It took me a couple weeks to decide on the name--until I got his wig, and eventually eyes.

Tentatively I'd been calling him "Yooli," but I knew that just wasn't right. Still, even after Nori stuck to him, it felt weird calling him that for a couple weeks after, too. XD

    4. Most of the time I see the doll and know his name. Its like they say it me.
The name of my first doll I didn't even like...
Till now only one doll had his name before coming to me.

    5. It took me about 2 weeks and several name changes to find one that suits her, and i don't even know if it will stick.

    6. I usually start looking for names right after I decide to get the doll.
I think it took 3 days to pick Faust's name and 4 for Scarlet.

I look for hours at baby name sites because it just has to be perfect @@

    7. I thought about names weeks before I got Artemys but it wasn't until I held him in my arms that I decided on a name. It kind of just Popped into my head, even though it was the name of a horse in one of my stories, I thought it really suited him. But nobody seemed to think it fit him. So for a few days after I tried to think of another name, but I couldn't change it. By then I liked it too much. Now everyone's grown to like it too. As for me DOC Bee-A, Her name came to me before I even placed the order. I never actually intended on getting a girl doll, until After I got Artemys I just realized how much I wanted to make girl clothes. I don't really have very many girl names I like, And Freuline isn't even really a name, it means "Miss" in German. But I took one look at her, and I knew that was it.

Otherwise, I have my next 5 doll purchases planned out already, It's just a matter of time. 4 out of 5 of them already have names.

    8. My babies have names before they're even ordered and/or had a body yet. X3

I actually have specific things that I look for with each person, and I have usually about three prospective sculpts for each character that I want them. These names are extremely important to me, so they each have special meaning to them. x3

    9. I didnt want to name my doll when I told myself that I was gonna buy her.

But after getting her I wanted her to have a name..

And it was more of a brainstorm of ideas.. My bff suggested Japanese or Korean name..

I did a search and fell in love with 1 of the names.. I tried calling her that.. It felt right.. and that was that.

    10. I named my doll before I even decided to actually buy her. I had decided which doll I wanted, and gave her the perfect name. I would talk to my friend as I decided more and more about her, and I didn't want to call her 'Tania' since that was her model type so I just kept calling her by the name I chose for her: Melody :3

    11. I've chosen my doll bu haven't ordered him yet, and he's already got a name in advance because he's a physical representation of a character of mine. XD So I'll already have a name for him when I get him. Its amusing because I always name things, from my collection of christmas bears to my flash drives that litter my desk top. >>; But dolls with faces and personalities MUST be named in my world, or they just aren't.... There.

    12. My first doll didn't get her name until 2 days after I received her, but the rest of my dolls are all characters who revolve around her story. The others had names weeks before they arrived.

    13. I choose a name before getting it :3

Everything is planned before the doll arrives and it will change only if I feel it does not go well with the doll XP

    14. I have only one doll for now. Well, I had a name even before he arrived, and he is not a certain character, just a handsome guy))

    15. I don't have a doll yet but I already have a name for them...:)

    16. It took me three months to figure out a name for my Puki Poseidon (Ichthy), but that wasn't too bad, because I just called him 'Fish' in my head until I found him a name. I usually to label things and people in my mind with pictures rather than names, though, so naming things isn't that important to me. Names for me are just there so I can discuss things with other people.

    17. Anwen's last name was easy too pick out. "Hmm...Abele...I like it." and it was his name. :)

I think it is important to find a name quickly. I didn't do that with Dion and the name stuck. I just could see him as anyone other than Dion (because I'd been calling him that for 8 months). I will never do that again. I name my dolls as soon as I decide to get them.

      Once I name a doll, I feel more bonded to him/her. ^^

    18. I think of the name before my doll born...almost every one cost about one or two weeks...every doll is unique,I consider him/her of my family member long before I order him/her

    19. I'm so lucky in that I can just look at the mould and my mind throws up the perfect name, personality and background for him.

For example, AoD's Wang Zi - Lucifer, Crobidoll's Nia - Lafaiette, Luts' Regan - Devangelo.

I don't have the money for them, but when I do I know exactly who I'm ordering.

    20. Most usually, I have to wait until a name suggests itself. Generally, I have to have the doll with me and "get to know them" before that can happen.

Sometime's it's instantaneous, occasionally (but this is rare) the name is decided beforehand, sometimes they keep the company name, and sometimes a name is a loooong time coming.

My best example is the one I use all the time - Elfie (RML R20 J head with elf ears) has been with me several years now and has never really been named.

She was referred to as my "elfie girl" while I waited for a name to become apparent for her... and no name ever appeared so "my elfie girl" was shorthanded to "Elfie" and that's who she is.
