How Long Before You Named Them / The Importance of Naming

Jun 15, 2008

    1. i could find any suitable name for my SG Dia.Firstly, she was Nemayn, but then i foiund out that this nam doesnt fit her..and i named her Olesya....and I'm still daubtful...this names dont fit her character

    2. My first doll sort of chose her own name. If I end up buying the Soulkid Katie A. I've been lusting after, she'll be Sephie. If it's the DoT Calla that I end up with, she'll be Dora. And if I manage to save enough for a LE Rosette doll (I'm hoping for a really pretty fall LE)... I don't have a name for that one yet, actually. :] But I've found that when looking at dolls and imagining characters for them, their names simply come to me.

    3. My boy will probably arrive in 2 month...and now I am looking for a name for him... I have many characters that I want him "to be" but I just don't think that will work... because when I first saw him, I fell in love at once, so I don't even have time to put him inside one of these characters I love... Anyway, I already found a name that I really like, maybe should be the right one for him~ the problem is, I am not sure...

    4. For me it's difficult, almost impossible to bond with a BJD if they have no name before getting here and if I can't find a suitable name once they are here, I'd have to sell them (this happened to me once :[ ) that's why I tried to search their names before their arrival. Once they're here and with a name, I can start playing around with their personalities and such :)

    5. Personally for me, a name is very important without it, I cant really bond with a doll that well. Im not sure why that is. But I do know if its not the right name, it wont work out either until I find them a suitable name = D Names are VERY important for me personally!

    6. I have Named all the ones i plan on getting and they arnt here yet well one is and thats Xepherai.
and I have no Clue how i came up with names Some time i think of a name then see a doll that i want that would fit the name and charter perfectly or i see the doll and think of a name but i always write it down so i dont forget

    7. Heh, some of my dolls were named even before I bought them.
ie: Vincent Valentine, Arden Silverfall, and Cait Sith were all names before I bought them.

Az'reth however... Took over two years to name. I got him in November 2007, and I named him just this month! Part of the problem was bonding... I just didn't have the heart to give him a name, since I didn't have the best experiences with Soom. It also took a while to figure out precisely who his character was going to be. For a long time, I had an idea of what his name was going to be, and although I've an inkling of his character, I've still much to learn about him.
I think bonding might have come easier to me if I figured out his name sooner...

Arden (original character), Vincent, and Cait Sith are all pretty much developed.

    8. Sometimes they woudl stay with their defaulkt name awhile but then eventually they get their own name. I dont know how long that usually is though.

    9. Naming is extremely important to me. I found that I didn't bond with any of my dolls until I was 100% sure they had the right name. For example, my Aidan was first named Nicolas, but that didn't work, so I changed his name to River, but still no go. Then one day, the name Caulder just popped into my head and I KNEW that was it! Now he's my baby. My Lan was first Sophie, then Ari, then Aura, and now she's Maike and I am about 80% sure it's the right name...it's still up in the air though.

That is to say, YES, I find names very important. They mean nothing to me until they have the RIGHT name.

    10. I didn't think too long 'cause both my boys'll be certain characters with their own names. But I think it's neseccary to find name asap. You'll fell much more comfortable calling doll by name and will be in contact with him/her, I guess.

    11. When I got my DollZone Shoyo it took a year for me to name her:sweat, but when I finished a book called Tamar I was so in love with the characters I decided to give the name Tamar to my Shoyo and later on another character's name from the book became my DZ Mo's name.

My glot's name Dream came from the title "Dream Callers" on the Soom page:lol:

    12. Hehe. My boy is still without a name and I've had him for about 4-5 months.

Then again, I had decided on naming Joy, well, Joy before she even arrived, BUT my friend was against it. It took her about 6 months to accept the fact I wanted to name the doll Joy. ^^

    13. it's hard for me to decide their name. and sometimes it tooks me so long time to consider which name should be suitable for he or she(maybe tow or three weeks) . it makes me crazy .. but name is important...is't it? so..

    14. Well . . . I got Teagan's faceplate on the 6th of August, so I guess it took me nine days to finally stumble upon a name that suited her and that I loved! :)
I think naming one's doll is an important part of bonding.

    15. I don't have my girl yet but I'm pretty sure her name will be Ceylon. When she gets here and I do her face-up, if she decides it doesn't fit, I'll sit down and start thinking again.

But for now, Ceylon it is!

*edit: I do think naming is a huge part of the bonding process. After all, when I was a kid, my parents always said "don't name it so we can still give it away" when I bred hamsters. We'd have like... 8 or 9 babies and I'd always name a few - and usually those were the ones I begged to keep.

    16. The first time was the most troubling for me. It took me several days to find the final name, though I already had a short list of my favourite ones. The second, Gabriel, had a name before a model for de the doll.

I actually find it important, for I use to call them by their names when I speak to other doll-owners. To some extent, their name configures a certain part of their personality, in my opinion.

    17. I only have two BJDs at the moment, but both were named before they actually arrived home to me. :)

      -M

    18. Some have a name before they arrive, others I either find out when I get them or later.

It really depends on the planning of their character XP

    19. I only have one so far and she named herself. :3

I used to do a lot of RP so naming a character is pretty important to me. Generally I want to find out their own personality first, how they move, how the head looks, what emotions the face up gives them, etc. Kinda role play out talking w/them and eventually a name just kind of pops up :3 If it doesn't, I'll go to a baby namer site that will let you search by the meaning of the name and start looking up words that describe him or her, and maybe one or a variation of a couple will pop up.

    20. I used to have to have names and stories about them before I stick them on my wishlist... I changed my mind later when I decided that there are plenty of other people who don't have names and stories about their dolls before buying them and it's OKAY to buy a mold I LOVE even if I have no name for them!

Anyways, for the dolls I have... well Asylum I came up with right away... because the boys are twins, I wanted their names to mean something different. My girl is Wisteria (I played around with Rosemary for a while but decided against that in the end) The younger brother, Asylum was supposed to be the nicer one, that she liked more and the older brother was supposed to be scarier and more 'dangerous' ... I couldnt' decide on a name for him so in the end I posted in the naming woes thread and people helped me come up with "Precarious"

My other dolls... well the Dark Human Soo was one of the first molds I ever wanted... I dont' have her yet but I didn't even have a name I thought would be fitting unitl like... last week XD I'm calling her Elysia or Elysium. Then there's an El I want but I don't know what to call him yet... and also a DM Lisa Rubik that I also have no name for yet...

None of those dolls have stories yet!

I also have some minimees. Those are characters form previous stories I've written and I took a really long time coming up with them too hehe. Mishka and Mikhail and then Requiem and Rhapsody.
