1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Long Before You Named Them / The Importance of Naming

Jun 15, 2008

1. I agree , to feel attatched i like to have named them ..preferably before they arrive ... but my first BJD ( just bought ) i just couldnt name before she turned up . I am used to collecting blythe and they come with stock coloured eyes and hair colour and style so they are a ' finished item' as such .

Knowing that this little fairyland pukipuki was coming to me and i didnt know what she would look with the wig i have chosen for her or what colour eyes she would come with ....It was kind of hard to name her before i saw her ... it took a few days .

2. I usually start on the process of naming my incoming dolls as soon as I purchase them or in some cases make the first payment.
I love names, so it isn't a chore for me, and I think it helps me to feel a little bonded with them before they even get out of the box.

3. Normally My boys already have names before I choose the mold ^.^ In the cases where they didn't, I usually had a character claim the body while I was in the tracking process.
In one ODD instance, the doll got here, then established himself as an entirely new character despite the plans I had for the body ^.^;

4. I'm not so bad with names. I mean, I'm terrible at naming because it has to be completely right. After ten days I've just found her name, Devany. (She chose it, I preferred Laetitia but never mind). I'm not too skittish if she doesn't have a name but I agonize over the personality and backstory. I can't bond with them if I don't know who they are and it's incredibly frustrating - especially when after I few days I find that the personality I thought she was, she isn't. *_*

I THINK I've found the right name and personality now, fingers crossed!

5. So far, all my dolls have had names before they have arrived ^_^ I've found it helps get used to them so far. Perhaps it will be different in the future though... it might be fun to have a doll turn up with no name :D

6. My girl was a character before a doll. And I think...that's probably the way I'll be doing it with most if not all the dolls I get. Even when I look up molds I like, the determining factor is whether or not I can find a character for them. Before I even order.

I'm glad you were able to name him. :)

7. I've got a list of names waiting for my first boy, a DZ Yuu on a Dollmore body. Lazarus and Neville are at the top of the list, but I feel like I can't name him until I've got him in my hands. I'm a madwoman when it comes to names, I've been naming plushies and dolls and inanimate objects since I was small. I'm so into names that I've got several baby name books, which I'll read randomly out and about. Several people are under the misconception that I'm pregnant, I think XD

8. I named my DZ Megi before he arrived and for a while he was cool with it but after a couple of months he decided that it wasn't him (he also decided that he hated his faceup) so now we've come to an agreement over a new name, Hian, (and he'll get a new faceup).

For my DOC Kirill I picked out a couple of names and when he arrives we'll see what he likes most. He'll probably stick with it since Hian will make him do so :)

9. I name my dolls when I meet them. But I do research while I'm waiting and saving.... Most of my name looking has to do with how I feel about the doll and what I think they get up to. I very rarely have to change their names afterward... but I have done it a time or two.

10. well, character and names always comes first with me, so i never really had this problem. but once i tried to change a doll and it's character because i didn't bond well with him. but the other name just didn't stuck.. so i sold him due to bonding isseus.. (and now he's with a friend of mine and it's totally her doll and not my old one anymore.. hehe).
but mostly names just come to me.. :)

11. I had characters set for the dolls before I ordered them,
&when they arrived, I had the tendency to change them =/
My first doll probably gone thru around 1o names ...?

12. I figured I would name him when I got him, but I found THE perfect name yesterday. So I don't know how long it is until I get him but... yeah. LOL

13. My dolls aren't based off any existing characters, but I always name them before they arrive. The hunt for the perfect name helps kill a little waiting time. ^^

14. In my family, it's considered bad luck not to name someone within three days- their souls don't attach. I think it's cause there's a history of infant death in my family, I dunno, but it stuck with me- everything I love has a name XD if I have trouble finding a name, I'll look online, ask friends and family-anything it takes to find it.

15. What rainwaltz said :) Although now I have a bunch of names for dolls I want lined up that I decided on in the periods when I had no dolls on order, so that won't really help with the wait time anymore ;-;

The dolls whose names I had in concrete before I got them seem to suit their names the most and the names really seem to embody the dolls. Some of my other dolls who I waffled over names even after getting them don't have the same attachment to their names, although they will do in time :D

I like them to have names, because that helps me create an attachment to the doll. I get less frustrated with any deficiencies if they have a name I came up with. Although that means that I often get frustrated with my Kirill and Ivan because I liked the mold names so much I kept them as their names. I'm going to someday soon get new faceups for them to suit them better, and maybe then I'll find new names for them, or with the make over the names will truely become 'mine'.

16. A funny incident occurred to me recently... A couple of days ago I ordered a doll that I randomly named Chatonne and yesterday my friend walks in my room to see me belatedly staring at her promotional pictures and says, "What the heck is that? It looks like a cat. o__O" And being somewhat curious, I looked up the meaning of her name in Google search today and the name Chatonne precisely means "female kitten" in French.

Very, very weird. xDDD

17. My longest time in not naming someone...has been almost a year! lol. It's really quite sad.
I had a name for him and I wrote it down somewhere, then I forgot what it was (before I got him I did this) so I've been looking for it but still haven't come across that notebook.
I think it would be helpful to me personally if I customized him the way I liked better and got him some more clothes to match his personality. He kindof sits there in a lame outfit with a bad wig. :(
He's supposed to be one of my girl's boyfriends, but I'm not sure she cares for him either. :eek!:
Maybe with a makeover it will be different! ( I hope so.....) I don't really want to sell him, since I don't have many boys at all, but I think it's time to accept the fact I like girl dolls a lot better!
But with all the others, I haven't had a problem naming them initially at all! I have had a few bonding problems however and still don't know what to do about it!

18. I have my Heliots for months now and they still don't have names.
It bothers me a little but by the time they arrived it was already time for me to go back to college. I couldn't bring them with me of course...
Hopefully, when I go back home for summer, they'll have their names...
I felt a little guilty all of a sudden... :P

19. i never really have had that problem. my doll calhoun came, i took one look at him and the name CALHOUN screamed in my head. now i'm waiting for my bobobie apollo to arrive and i have a list of possible names, but if another name screams at me i'll use it instead.

20. My first boy had his name after he came to me, but I named hom right the first day, because otherwise I would feel really bad for him. His character is part angel so I knew he has to have angelic name and it should have connection with friendship, loyalty or something like that so it was quite quick.
For my second boy I had few possibilities and in the end I choose Sairen, but he´s still not here so maybe it won´t suit him and it will be changed...
