How Long Before You Named Them / The Importance of Naming

Jun 15, 2008

    1. Right Now I thinks its the longest have have spend trying to find a name....

I've been thinking of getting a MNF Shiwoo for a while and now that I am ready to order.... I still do not know his name xP
While the 2 last times I knew the name the moment I ordered.....

    2. I've just renamed one of mine, my DnD romi was originally feather as I couldn't think of anything else. I've messed with her wig, her eyes, all trying to find the right name. Over a year after getting her I repositioned her so she was looking at the door of the main room when people came in, and the next time I entered the room the word 'Fae' popped into my mind. So, Fae it is. I can't believe how well it suits her! I guess feather was just a 'working name' lol

    3. It took me three weeks to name Riona. I had been looking at names before she got here, however I couldn't decide, because I couldbn't hold her, look at her and check if it was the right one yet. So I stopped looking for a while. When she got here, I started looking again, and asked people for suggestions. Somebody suggested Riona, so I googled it to see from which language it came and such and it just fits her. I found her second name (or last name) a few minutes later :)
For my Pukisha it was way easier, because I already knew what I wanted with him, and had already decided that he would be a tribute to my old cat Ukkie and therefore named after him.
Now all I need is a name for my puki puki Sugar, I'm thinking something sweet (oh a pun!) but I haven't decided yet.
Ah well, it took me several months or so to name my Obitsu so it could always be worse :sweat

    4. I think it's important to name them before buying. That way you kind of know what character your doll will be. I've don't have a BJD yet, but with other dolls, if I bought it without a specific name/character in mind, I would change its name every couple of months and none of them really stuck, so I never really grew attached to them.

    5. Lol I named all of mine before I bought them, but after I chose their sculpt...

    6. Well Orion's name (BBB Weylin) came about a couple months after I got him. I would sometimes just sit and think and stare. Finally the name popped into my head and it seemed to fit. However with my 1/6, Oscar, his name came right after I got him. And Tseng (LJK), his name was decided before I even purchased the doll.

    7. I used to have a list of my favourite names (kind of like what I'd name my kids if I ever have kids, which would be never), though for my Luna (IH), when I was just thinking about buying her, I thought a name that begins with Y sounded interesting for her, so I thought "Yacinthe". But when I looked it up, the closest one to it is actually "Jacinthe", and over time as I finally bought her and waited for her I kept referring to her as Jacinthe, so that's her name.

When I decided on what other dolls I wanted to get, I've also decided on their names. I think it helps you build on their characters and personalities that way.

    8. Well, I'm basing my doll on my OC so I already have a name for him |D names are important and I think people should have one prepared or some choices prepared for when the doll comes. It's like preparing a name for a baby basically, you can't call it "the baby" that long, you want to give him/her a name ASAP~

    9. Well, it's been different for each of them.

Faye- I named her the day I got her, but before I knew she was there. I was in High School and sitting in my last class. I thought she was coming either that day or the next day and I was coming up with a name for her. So suddenly, I thought of Morgan Le' Fay, and decided that Faye would be a good name for an elf.

Dahlia- She was Nim for awhile before she got here and after she was here, but it didn't feel right. Eventually, I came to the name Dahlia after I dressed her all in black and thought of The Black Dahlia.

Julian- I had a lot of trouble with this one. I came up with his name in a mexican restaurant before a meet-up. I wanted something Shakespear-esque, so the inspiration on his name was from Julius Ceasar.

Hana- I named Hana shortly after I got her. I was thinking about changing it, but I went to a school in Japan and our class name was Hana class. So I kept it.

Max- Actually, I put the pukisha things on my puki and he simply told me his name was Max. It was weird.

Clare- I wanted to name her Sara, but my sister's name is Sarah, so I couldn't do that. Clare was going to be my name if I hadn't been named my current name, so I wanted to have that in there. Came up with it before I got her in the car going to look at new cars.

Loki- I saw a doll head that I wanted and it screamed Loki to me. I didn't get that head, so I'll be creating a different version.

Aiden- I named him maybe two days after I got him. My mum named him that actually and it kind of stuck. It was between Aiden and Miles.

Hime- She was similar to Max. I wanted to get a pink-y girly girl and name her Hina or Hime. When I get her, it will be finalized as one or the other, but I like Hime better.

Ellie- I needed a really cute name for a Littlefee. She's Aiden's sister, so it also had to sound good with Aiden. My grandma's name is Eleanor and so this doll will be a way to remember her by.

Krou- He was originally going to be an SD, but I decided to make him an MSD with resin wings. So his name refers to the bird "crow" and the japanese word for black "kuro."

    10. I name them after the mold i pick out, like I might soon be purchasing a Dollzone Brant, and his name is Trendon Christofer Decallahan

    11. I named my doll before I got her actually. It wasn't weeks before hand, but probably a day or two before she arrived. I was really thinking about it, and it was all on my mind for a few days. But then I came up with it: Ellianna, Elli for short. After the name came her spunky, attitude filled, character came.

    12. Most of the dolls that I've got or come across I was named within a day or two. But with my first male doll it took a long time for me to figure it out, lol like about a month. Probably cause I'm not used to having a male doll or come up with male names. Name is important as I like to have names with meanings that connects with their character. But it's also gotta sound right. Just makes the character seem more real, I guess.

    13. It took me almost a month to name Ren. Finally my bf just started listing off names (mostly from naruto) and Ren just clicked. She is not supossed to be Ren from Naruto though.
She was my first, and after she was named her character started developing along with the next two dolls that are on their way.
Tadashi got his name when I was watching Heros, I looked it up and the meaning fit.
Daigo was named because my bf plays street fighter and I kept hearing the name. He is not susposed to be the actual Daigo.
If I end up getting more then 3 I'm not gonna let my bf speek till I name him/her...

    14. Most of my dolls are already named even though it'll be a long time before I own them. They're all already characters of mine.

But some of them aren't already characters - I just like the mold, so I'm making up a new character for them. Theron was like that. I saw the DM Film Noir Lawrence and immediately knew I had to have him! I got his whole story in my head, everything about him... except his name. It took me ages. Before I got him he went through the names Braxton, Michael, and finally I told him his name would be Chauncy if he didn't tell me what his name really was. He finally told me Theron. :XD:

But the MNF Scar Breakaway I hope to have someday is proving to be a lot more difficult. He's not telling me anything about himself. -.-

I think that names are a very important part of bonding with a doll. I don't know what I'll do if I finally get my Breakaway, and he still hasn't told me his name! :(

    15. I wait for a sculpt to tell me who they are before I even consider buying them..^_^; There are actually a few sculpts I'm interested in right now that don't even get to go on my wishlist until they tell me their names!

    16. Actually, I had had my first doll for long before I thought I'd give them names.

Azphel was because I'd keep the angelism of the name Rafel which his sculpt got.

Light was just a name I always had found cool, so I also had to have a pet/doll/character called that, so Light became Light :)

Ageha was kinda random, and the idea came from my username. I think my username got a meaning now though, because I love Ageha, and it means butterfly, but it doesn't have much to do with anything

    17. My dolls all had names before I even ordered them. When I purchase a doll it is as a shell for one of my characters so their name is already in place. There have been a couple of exceptions but in general that is just how I do it. Noble still doesn't have a real name though. It's kind of sad, I am having an awful time naming his character even though he has existed in my head for years. :sweat

    18. I have names and characters already picked out for my dolls before they come home so picking a name isn't an issue. I also think it is important to name your doll(considering how much they cost it's well worth getting attached to them other wise they just sit there and collect dust really and would possibly make someone feel as though they may have wasted their money). But that aside a name also gives the doll character regardless of how much you know about them, it opens the door of giving the doll a personality. But that's just what I think.

    19. My floating head is currently named Sephora, but now that I've planned and ordered all her parts I'm starting to think that it doesn't fit her. It kind of upsets me 'cause it took me forever to pick that name. But I'm not happy with it anymore. So the search continues...

    20. My dolls usually first get a make up then a name. In my case it is not the lack of proper name, that makes bonding difficult, but rather, lack of... character, that makes difficult both naming AND bonding. I have this problem with my Soom Topaz - I cannot "feel" her character, so I'm still not sure, if her name is Lou or some other. I will have her make up redone soon, hopefully, this will help :|
