1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Long Before You Named Them / The Importance of Naming

Jun 15, 2008

    1. I choose the name before the doll gets here and work out their looks & character. Then I know where to start when they arrive.
I don't think I could ever buy a doll 'just for the looks' and figure out what to do with him/her later.

    2. Have I posted here? If I have, I apologize.

Although I still haven't gotten my first BJD yet (trust me, I'm working on it) I think naming is an important process of it because for a lot of people, they're more than just an inanimate object. A point proven by just how much you can buy for them. That fact alone warrents giving them a name as it almost gives them an entire life of their own and truly makes them unquie to the owner. I mean, how boring would it be if they were all named the same?

So I think it's a pretty important part and an enjoyable one too since it makes the doll feel more like a part of yourself in a way.

    3. I think the name is very important because it separtes them from the others , others as and yours and others who have the same mod. I name dolls before I even save up for them. Sometimes things change and they end up being different people, and thats okay to change their name.
but over all I am not the type to leave a doll nameless QWQ

    4. I feel I haft to name them before they arrive, either chosen before I order or when they are on order. I'm not fussed when, as long as its not too close to their arrival, but I haft to have given them one when they arrive.
I think it can help with bonding quicker being able to call them by their name straight off.
I'm not fussed over backstory and personality apart from a basic idea, but they need naming early; everything else can come later.
Its like this at the moment, I don't know how I would feel in the future of having a doll arrive without a name ready.

Currently, the one I have and the one on order have both been named while on order (2 weeks and 1 week after ordering respecitvly), and there are two others I'm very slowly saving for that I already have names for.

    5. I was struck with Elle's name while she was on order, and I decided on Halo's before I ordered him. Carrol, not yet in the works, is based off a pre-existing character, so... I've got the name thing down. ;)

I don't think I'd be able to leave a doll nameless for more than a day, since I need to call them something when I talk to them, lol.

    6. Already have his name and i haven't even ordered him yet! ;D

    7. In my family, it's considered a sin to live more than three days without a name, and very bad luck as well. My dolls, thankfully, have all been very vocal! As soon as they were on their way home (sometimes even before they were made) they told me their names- Rip Van Winkle, Ofelia, Saa, Plum and Hades. only Jani ever gave me any trouble- he was my first doll, and was, for a while, made to be a girl. He haaated it and rejected the name >: I had to hunt for 'Jani'. During the time that he was nameless, he lost half an ear, no pair of eyes fit him, his wigs were mangled and set on FIRE, he fell three times from a level, large surface... and I had a whole lot of personal trouble, too. :/ no doll of mine will go without a name again.

    8. I thought of a name for my girl even before she arrives. Just thought that she should have everything ready and welcoming her once she enters my world.

I have always like the name Eva and has been using it as my alias for my online games. So I chose it as my girl's name. Then it was the surname. Was trying to find something special for her and Pendergast struck me as the right surname to use as it is the surname of my favourite character in the novels written by Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston. He's a really lonely and intelligent guy and in my mind he is also attractive. Eva is also such a girl so the surname just sort of suits her. :)

Having name her even before she arrives made the whole wait for her more personal, knowing that I am waiting for someone and not something. Hehez. ;)

    9. Somehow, with the exception of the Bambu, i always named my doll right on the spot. Sometime i have a name in mind and when we "meet", it is generally the good one. Depends on what i'm planning for the doll too. The Bambu refused the character and choosed something else and it's still ion construct.

    10. Ah, well I do not find a mold for characters I've already created, I create a character for the mold and developes a background for it long before it arrives.
I guess that's just how I prefer doing it,

    11. All of the dolls in my future doll family already have names. How important it is to name a doll after it arrives is individual. I'm sure some people never name their dolls at all.

    12. All of my dolls have been named after I got them and I figured out their 'personality' and clothing style. Only one or two have been named differently, one being a doll based off a character and the other having none since I had planned to sell it, but changed my mind.

    13. I bought my first-to-arrive doll a bit spontaneously. I had already ordered another one, but since this one was rather cheap and looked fine I couldn't resist buying him. I had some problems deciding his name, and he was nameless for about 3 days. I just ended up browsing names and when I found nice sounding one I looked at the doll and thought whether it fit him or not. And finally I found a name I thought was good for him :)
For my two other dolls I had names and somekind of personalities ready before buying them. And I think this will be, what I'll also do in the future.

    14. For me it is a bonding thing. I don't order dolls that does not already have a name and personality. I have tried a few times though, to get dolls that were not a part of the "plan", so to speak. Like my DZ Leo that I got half a year ago, but still has no name. At this point it is called Freaks and he'll probably stay that for a while yet, until I have had the time to make him into something else.

    15. My dolls generally don't have 'characters' or background stories so I name them after they arrive. The ones I have struggled to name are often the ones I haven't bonded with and they leave pretty quickly!

    16. I named my DZ Mo-2 Elias before he got here, and the same with Lyric, my Delf Yder. They were pretty pre-planned. With my DZ Feilian, she was planned and I saved specifically for her, but I didn't have a name for her for a couple of days. Eventually, Orca and I came up with the name "Gwendolen", and with my DZ Jing, I didn't even know he was coming, since he was a surprise present, so I had to think about what to name him. After a couple of days, I decided on Shiloh. Names just pop in, if I can settle on a letter.

    17. A really interesting thread. Yes, as their personalities, the names of my BJD are important for me. I have always decided them before they arrived home and the most before purchasing. Since I knew my first BJD would be Nami, from manga and anime series One Piece, the most of the rest have been, are and will be other of the for me main characters from that same title. What I have done about their names is finding out about meaning and origin of them all. But even about my own creation characters I have decided their names before their arrivals and purchases. They came to my mind with a general idea of their personalities at a time. Writing is my personsal resin way of doing and fall. That happened to me even with their puppy pet's name and I think it is just because of my way of enjoying this hobby.

    18. I already had characters for the dolls so they had names before they arrived. I usually sit and look until I am like yup thats so and so and then comes the whining about no money....heehee

    19. I named them before I boght them
ususally I give my BJD a character first, then their names are come form sudden idea~~

hope you can find a perfect name for your doll^^

    20. I ALWAYS make sure that I name my doll before they arrive so that I know what to call them when I first see them. But I never really have a name before I buy the doll. Usually some time between making the first payment and receiving the doll I have a name.
