It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How Long Before You Named Them / The Importance of Naming

Jun 15, 2008

    1. I was troubled when I couldn't find a name for Georgie. First, I kept trying to think of what would be a nice word to translate into Japanese to find a name I liked the sound of. Then I tried to think of a name that had meaning. Then in the end I stopped trying and a name I loved came to me.

(Actually, it's a name I had considered for if I ever have a daughter in the future, and so I was momentarily put off - but there's nothing wrong with naming a child after a doll, right?;))

    2. That’s an awesome idea! I graduate…hey wait, I graduate *this* year. Hmmm. The possibilities. ;)

Divinas: I’m sure you’ll find just the right name for him :) & congrats on your (future) boy!

    3. I never really care about naming. Some of my dolls have specific names that I call them by, some just have "default" names, that is, pretty much just a random pretty name that I might just change whenever I felt like it, and others I haven't really bothered to name yet.

    4. Hi! :)
I think for a doll you love you have to imagine a name that would fit her/him. I think of a doll as a member of family, like a pet.
All of my pets had names I decided to give them *after* I got them. Some still hadn't got a name after a month or so. But I prefer the way of naming for you can be sure it will suit the one the name will be given to...
Laoky (who thinks that the changing of names is a kind of impoliteness (even if it is not a living thing) as it is a way to treat something in a respectable way...)

    5. Haha congrats! ^_^ good luck finding the perfect doll!

    6. It took me about four days to name mine. I finally decided on Echo. I really couldn't find a name that 'clicked' either.

    7. With all my dolls, I've usually had a clear picture in my head of what kind of personality I wanted them to have before I got them. So, I would choose a couple of names that I think would fit them while I was waiting for them to arrive. Once they got to my house and were in my arms, one name would stand out from all the rest.. and that would be the name I chose.

    8. I've always known what my first doll's name would be, because I was looking for one to fit a certain character of mine. I wasn't going to be happy with any other doll but Gabriel, and finally found him a few months ago! So he was named before I even found the sculpt that fit him, much less paid for or received him.

I had a general idea of who would be next, and thanks to finding more molds that match characters, I'm now waiting for Maren and Esa to be delivered. I don't even know if they're made yet, but they were named before I found the molds, too. (And I generally knew one or the other would be the next doll, I just was lucky enough to be able to get both at the same time and not have to choose who was next.)

    9. Well, with my doll I knew her name the moment I saw her. She was Alyce.
I had never really tried out any other name with her, I just kinda "knew" that was her name. I think it was because I had been watching Alice in Wonderland a few nights before she arrived and she just reminded me of "Alice."
But when I had bought a boy (whom I no longer have) I had been coming up with names for a boy, before I had ever actually thought about buying him.
Even though this may sound odd, try going to a thrift store or book store and buy a baby naming book. It was slightly awkward for me to buy one (I'm 17), but I also get easily embarrassed. But, they really do help! :D

    10. Well most of my dolls to be are based on my pre-existing original characters.Normally I fumble around for a name..by taking into account the personality etc, and then finally a name will 'click' and seem oh-so perfect xD

    11. I make a list of names I think might fit or sometimes ask for suggestions or ideas on my blong/LJ from friends.

I usually have them named the day I get to hold them in my hands.:)

    12. My favourite thing to do to keep me busy while waiting for a doll is looking for a name :) and believe me it hugely takes me a loooooot of time, but it's only when i have the doll in my hand that i know if it works or not!

It doesn't matter if it takes days, the right name usually comes, and I prefer to wait for the perfect one, because i just can't rename a doll if i was "wrong" (I feel funny talking like that about inanimated objects but you know...)

    13. I was planning on naming my first doll Max before I even knew which doll I was getting! But when he arrived, Max didn't really fit, so I tweaked it and chose Maxime a few days later. It's a little more unusual and quirky like him.

As for my Tender Lahoo, I didn't pick his name until I had him for about a week or two. I couldn't get a feel for him until I'd had him a while so I decided to hold off on naming him. I picked Kwan Min because it means "strong" and "clever" which suits his personality.

    14. With the last 3 dolls, it was several weeks to a month before I came up with names.

All of the others that were planned for, though; I had picked out names for them already before they arrived.

The doll that I'm awaiting now already has a name, because she's somewhat of a "reincarnation" of a past doll that I had to sell. (I didn't want to sell her, but I didn't like having to keep her under a black sheet all the time because she was one of the first pink BC Kumi's. So this time I've ordered a Kiera with floral white skin.)

    15. Named mine within 3 minuets of opening her box :) Don't know how, just came to me then and there, i'd thought about names before she arrived but nothing had stuck like hers did when she was there, named her lilly.

    16. i think it only took me a couple of weeks to name my lahoo seraphim. then it took two years before i had the money to finally buy him.:sweat

    17. For me, I named my doll while I waited for her to arrive.
But, even so I called her default name lot of times instead of what I've named her. lol

I guess what happened to me was I spend much time looking at her before I bought one
and I keep saying I want this doll's name. In my case it was Luna.
By the time I decided to get her I already got used to Luna not the name that I gave her.

    18. I normally have their names picked out before they arrive considering I picked the mold for a character. I have had a few change on me though. And when I first considered buying Kyle he was originally going to be another character but he kinda became Kyle in the end ^^; But normally I feel more comfortable having their named picked out before they arrive ^^

    19. I've already named my doll...a doll I haven't even ordered yet.:p

Though its always subject to change, and I wont really know for sure until said doll actually arrives. I really have to see her in person to know for sure.

    20. Will all the time it take, I named my doll before arrival.
