It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Long Before You Named Them / The Importance of Naming

Jun 15, 2008

    1. My dolls all are/will be based on characters I have already. Except for the Pipos Bao I've been looking at...no idea what I'd want to name him. xD Oh well, I have time...considering I'm not going to be able to get him for a while, heh.

    2. I sort of developed Prince Hachiko before I had him. I get small
ideas, then develop them to the doll as I have them~ Get em' faceups,
clothes, etc. will really determine the name and whatnot for me~ When
I got Saiko, it was on a total whim~ It took me two weeks of having him before
I named him xD And I think it suits him~

    3. wow, i'm surprised at how many people already have characters for their dolls..maybe that comes with experience; I know in D&D I have my character figured out and named before I choose his race and class..but then again i guess that is necessary. right now i just want to see my doll to see what kind of personality comes with him. XD

So now I have agreed to pay for TWO DOLLS (DZ Aleister yaaaaaaay!), and I came up with the idea to name them and give them personality according to different parts of my personality..I've even considered (eventually) having six dolls with names beginning with a letter in my name.. So perhaps everyone has their own way of naming the dolls.

    4. I like to meet them first. But once they're with me I usually name them in a day or two. But I like to narrow it down to a few choices before they arrive. It's not that I think the name will come to me from nowhere. Although that has happened too.

    5. I chose all of my names, before they came exept my puki (Still Semi name less) My sister calls him it, though I don't like it. And I really have to say, I can't bond with him at all!!! So, I think picking names first helps alot. Also what I do it just read lists of names with the doll in mind until I hit one thats like oh, thats her/him!!! Yeah hope it helps, and it doesn't end up in sale.

    6. I named my girl before she arrived. I got my inspiration from the store photos and how she looks. I wanted an Egyptian type name (for no specific reason, lol), hence Femi = love. ^___^ I just looked up a list of female Egyptian names and viola! Hee, hee! <3

    7. I usually think of a name for mine a few weeks after ordering them....waiting for the shipping notice is a killer!

    8. I've had 2 of my 3 dolls for nearly a year. I worked on their faceups, bought wigs, eyes, and shoes. I have grand plans for clothing and costumes but my full scale projects take precedense. Sadly, to date, I call them Adam and Eve because they're nekked. :) I still refer to my third doll by his mold name. It just fits. As I get to know them better, I will try to think of better monikers though I'm fairly lame at it. A history of D&D and other RPG characters has made that pretty clear.

    9. Haha. Well Ifinally realized how it feels to have a name for a doll first. I still don't know what to name the first doll (my Apollo), but I just put a DZ Aleister on layaway. I thought about keeping his name Aleister, because I've always loved the name. But his previous owner called him such so I kinda feel bad for the little guy. After looking and looking at pictures of him and searching to find clothes for him I decided to name him Ragamuffin. XD Why? Cause he's little, and positively evil to behold so a silly cute name should give him a fun character.

Hopefully I'll receive a similar epiphany for my Apollo XD

    10. I actually start to think up names as soon as I see the sculpt I like. As of now, there are four sculpts I like that I have named. I plan on having them all one day... Anyway, the names to me are sort of what helps me come up with the kind of appearance and personality I want them to have. I've decided on a name before I even had the doll!!!! Twice now actually.

    11. Different dolls got named at different rates.

Both Dollshe dolls were named (tentatively) before they arrived, and they even liked their names when they got here.

The dolls sculpted by Rainman, on the other hand, are slow to agree to names. Baltazar took at least three months and a joke name that he glommed onto for his very own, Nan took two, and Antonia, first sleepy Ryung head, took well over a year to tell me her name, and she was surprised I had managed.

The elves will often tell me everything about themselves, their character except 1) their names and 2) what they want to wear ("elf clothes" not being sufficient description).
My Tinybear's Witley Wood Elves have a system for their names, though I can frequently find only two of their names--one of which is the sculpt name, so that's easy.

I mentioned joke names above; if I make a joke name or any place-holder name, the doll will adore that name and never give it up. *_*

And I have several unnamed dolls, one of whom has had several names, but nothing has stuck.
      I feel like the miller's daughter/queen in Rumplestiltskin. :p

This is with looking at name-sites and offering each doll a large choice. doll: nope, no, nuh-uh, willyoupicktherightnamealready!arrrrgh!

    12. Mine is based off my old imaginary friend... so I had his name ready. ^ ^; Was worried the mold wouldn't fit him.. and it's still not perfect but I don't think an exact match'd be possible... so when he arrived I decided he was good enough to be dubbed Jack.

    13. The two I am waiting for already have their names, as they're based off of OCs of mine. ^^

Hitsuzen (or Hitsu) and Yuki. Yuki's got a common name, but I still love him to death all the same. XD

    14. my dolls get their names before they arrive.. coming up with names helps pass the time while they are shipping~

    15. The character was born long before the doll, so for me, I already had a name ready and waiting. I catered my doll to look like a specific character that I made from an old story: same eyes, same hair, same clothes style. This was, of course, before I knew of the sculpts that can be made to your liking (the name eludes me now), so I had to pick out a sculpt that just screamed my character's name before I bought it. Things have to say their name to me before I can ever think to get attached to it. It's like meeting a new friend. :)

    16. I develop both a name and personality for my dolls even before they arrive. (: I think that's why it's kind of fun to wait for them to arrive, you anticipate their arrival so much that you create their character in advance. I feel like giving a relevant name to suit each personality is very important so you can start writing about them and collecting clothes that suit their style. ^__^

    17. I had my doll for two weeks and I did not worry, because I knew that her name would come to when her time was right. On third week I started to worry and wonder how it will not come on itself. Then I decided after a small pondering that because I do not remember the numbers and unmeaningful things really well I decided my doll's name on it's size. I had been joking about her to have name like this, but thought that I never dare to insult her that way.

My doll is a 1/4 sized doll or MSD sized. So 1/4 came to be her pet name, a name that her family uses of her; Iia [e-e-i]. Number 1 and /-mark being the i-letters and number 4 translating to A.
So her whole official name would come to be Mercedes pronounced spanish way; c being soft s so there being the MSD in right order when pronounced. Family name coming from mine, valley translating to spanish to Valle, she is from an low aristoctatic family there coming "of valley" Mercedes de Valle.

    18. That..is amazingly clever. :o (clap)

    19. i guess it just depends
i don't even have enough money
      to even get my dolls
and one of them already has a name
      ^_^

    20. 7 months for me. ._.

But now I FINALLY figured out exactly what I wanted for her as a character when I got past that first doll glamor. xD
