It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How many dolls are enough?

Dec 27, 2019

    1. I’m trying to stay between 3-7 big main dolls, and infinite tinies, because, well, tiny. I don’t want anyone to get left out, and more than that just seems like a lot for me!

    2. I was going to say I'm trying to stay below 100, but I will probably not... I said the same thing when I had 20, 30, etc. so it's probably an illusion to think I'll stop at any point. I pity whoever inherits the mess that is my craft/hobby/doll room.

    3. I'm just going until things feel "right" to me. I'm looking at having 10 resin dolls total, not including my two pet dolls (whether or not they will stay is currently up in the air), and then that'll probably be more than enough resin for my household. I currently have 9 either incoming or in some stage of completion, so I've got plenty of projects on my hands!

My vinyl dolls, on the other hand, occupy a different niche in my brain and I consider them a separate collection on a personal level. I may end up accumulating more of them because I find them less energy intensive on my creative streak.

    4. Right now I have two floating heads and 14 full dolls, with all but one being 1/3 scale. One is kept in his box for reasons, and the other twelve are clustered together on a single book case shelf in my office/studio.

With all that said, I don’t have a maximum or goal number of dolls. Currently we’re tight on space so I’m not actively looking… but if I were to see a doll I want and the funds were there I would get it. Really it’s the boxes I going to be the biggest issue as they take up quite a bit of room.

    5. 21 with another on the way. I desperately need to downsize

    6. Personally, I'll stop when I have all of the sculpts or dolls from artists that I like. I've realized that limiting it by a number is just not realistic to limit myself to a certain number or size. I more focus on getting the dolls I am interested in and want, I'll stop when I have them or if I can't for financial or space reasons. Does that mean I might end up with thirty to a hundred different dolls, maybe, do I care though, not really. There is also the fact that I collect dolls that aren't BJDs and also plushies. I don't judge people that have an entire room filled with dolls but I do know that that more than likely will not be me.

    7. Hm... I have no limit for this. Maybe because I thought that one doll was enough for me and now... I have 6 dolls and 2 heads :kitty2

    8. 5 to 6 would be my limit, I think. More would take too much time, space and money

    9. I have to update less than 10 for space reasons but it might even be 0 for me , cause I don't want to have anything expensive to sell and I don't really want to bother with hobbies anymore, I have already sold some, shipped some to layaway arranged others to layaway and get ready to upload others for selling but I am already counting the ones which stay at 8 , I have to photo and sell out the spare parts of course but even with those 8 dolls I separated for staying I feel I want none ,as before I felt with music and sold every cd and now years later I am happy to put music out of my life I think one day I will be happy to have put dolls out of my life it needs just to understand that at the end of the day I am a mainstream soul which doesn't need anything creative in life and I am far happier with a pizza a beer and tv.

    10. For me 5 is a comfortable number, but I collect all sizes so 5 of each size...:|
I desperately wanted to be a minimalist girlie and keep the overall collection under two digits but I cant :sweat

    11. At the moment I have 17 full dolls, most of them SD-size, 7 anthros and some floating heads. To be honest, I already feel quite overwhelmed and I am thinking constantly about selling some of them. The lack of clothing and wigs are not the problem, I have really more than enough to choose from. And in my doll cabinet, there is still space for some more. But with the little time which is left for my hobbies beside a fulltime job, family life and the daily little (or big) problems, I can‘t care for every doll I have. So some of them are sitting in their closet for months (or now even years) before I do something with them again. So I would say for me 10 to 15 dolls are enough.

    12. For me as I get back into the hobby, the plan is around 5-6 dolls. I want to be able to comfortably display them and work on each of their details myself, from faceups to clothing. Five are for my general ideas I'd like to make real one day, and one for the "doll that is a must buy because I will never see anything like it again!!". That said who knows where this will end up...

    13. So, I don’t want to alarm you or anything, but there was a point at which my goal was only 10 of them. I had picked which characters were important enough to get shelled as dolls.

At last count, we are over 50 dolls in the house. Well over 50. I’ve given up on a population limit when companies keep coming out with dolls I want to write characters about. Earlier in the year, I thought I was “almost” done buying dolls. I had a very short list of bodies for my floating heads, and a couple full dolls, and then Dollzone had to come out with both a snake girl, and an Angel in the same month, and I had characters for both of them. Now I’m accepting that I can get “done” shelling all the characters I have on the list, but it’s unlikely I’ll ever be fully done bringing home dolls.

    14. @Chameleon

Sounds amazing, there is nothing wrong with that! If you have the space and means to have a large doll family, all is well! Most my characters stay in drawn form and I have nearly a thousand there- I just need to slow myself down by setting a limit or else I would probably buy too much on a whim haha. As is, I think the fact that I want the dolls to look somewhat coherent/mesh well is going to make it harder for me to buy a lot just because I prefer the smaller head/mature-ish MSDs and they are a bit harder to find ;U; (or so I hope..)

    15. There's no hard or fast number that's 'enough', it's definitely more of a feeling, or a vibe. Space becomes an issue at high numbers, but I've always enjoyed a maximalist aesthetic, and feel most at peace with organized clutter. I'm currently sitting at over 100, and feel that I'd like to downsize a bit just so that everyone has a bit of breathing room. I'd say 80-90 is probably ideal for me, give or take. And I'm saying that as someone who has mostly SD sized dolls. If everyone has a place to sit or stand and be seen and there are no gaps or open spaces...that is enough for me. Whatever that number is. :)

    16. Too many. I initially wanted 'only' 26 dolls. Then the limit was set at 50. Now I'm above 60 and I feel like that's a bit to many, but I don't know who else I'd be willing to part with to get back under 50.
Anyway, I'm at the limit in terms of space ^^'

    17. Well, don’t feel bad…it looks like we’re both in exactly the same place in our collections. I’m at 61, and combatting my lack of space now by trying to stop buying any more. Who knows how successful I’ll be?:sweat

    18. To be realistic, I guess I'll only stop when I've owned all the sculpts I'm interested in.
That's a lot, I'd say, but I'm highly positive that I won't keep all (not even most) of them in the end. ;)
Then again, who knows how many of the new releases will be of interest to me?
Space is an issue as well, of course. So basically there's no hard set limit or goal. At the moment.

    19. Thank you for comforting me! I need to stop buying, or at least I need to sell before buying again XD
It's just now I think they are a little to many for me. 50 was a good number. But like I said, I don't really know who I'd be ok to sell.

    20. Update, 0 for me cause I am not really a crafting/creative person or hobby person. I don't know if I really can reply in those threads as my opinion is somewhat irrelevant as I am on my way to be out of the hobby lol
