How Many Dolls Did You Buy Your First Year?

Um...Five? Mostly OT ones though...

 

Hmmm.... Four, I think. It just happened, it was much more than I had planned.

I got my first, and AOD Wang Zi, in September 2008
I got a DOI Luke head in April 2009 (got the body Halloween 2009)
then I got my IP Tatiana in mid August 2009

 

How many dolls did you purchase in your first year of collecting? Did you stay content with your first doll for a while, did you immediately start buying more, or do you still just have your one doll?

I am pretty sure the answer is none. My first (July 2004) was a gift and I didn't have income during my first year in the hobby :/ I didn't hit off with it for various reasons (partly that I had a rough, rough start with faceups) and actually almost quit the hobby XD; I ended up overcoming that by the time I actually had some disposable income, though.

But my next two dolls were close together, once I had some money (I think they were closer to two years out). Uh, in other words, it was only money that I didn't have two dolls the first year. I've always had to portray characters with the dolls (or I get tired of them), and for some reason, I've always thought of my characters in sets of 2 or 3. Bad, bad news for the wallet


Did you finish your first doll before buying more?

That doll still isn't finished, technically. I keep reshelling the characters I try in it . . . so it is the doll that is perpetually changing or something. Yeah, I don't necessarily finish dolls before buying the next, though I am trying to get better at this.

If you count the doll I just bought, and I think it fits into a 12 month period from when I bought the first doll, which was May 2012, then I've bought 8 dolls in 1 year!

I usually have pretty finished dolls. I currently only have one that's not finished but only because I'm waiting for a can of MSC.

 

Well, I bought my first in February. So far, I've paid for two, and a single head. By this Saturday, I'll have two at home, one on the way, and two-three heads on the way...

 

6 I think? I still have 3 of them (my RS Mei, LTF Ante and PP Ante)

I bought one doll in my first year and it took all my money to do so (she's an SD). She has multiple outfits, two wigs, tons of shoes and I still buy stuff for her every year. I immediately started looking for other dolls, but I knew I did not have the money to buy them so I waited and saved up. I have since bought two other dolls.

Similarly, Did you finish your first doll before buying more?

Yes. I always plan the buying of my dolls to got with at least 2 outfits, shoes, eyes, and wigs. I want to play with my doll when I get it. They MUST come fully equipped or they're boring to me. If I bought less stuff I'm sure I could have another 2-3 dolls now, but I wouldn't enjoy it as much as dressing up my current girls. Also, I require a face-up except for dollfie dreams who I do myself.

 

I still haven't gotten my first because I can't afford it, but once I do, it will probably be a LONG time before I get another, because I am in high school, don't have a steady job, and have to save for college.

 

I may be in trouble... I got my first in November and it's now 5 months later and I'm up to 9 bjd's so far, with another one on the way (but I plan to gift that one to my mom)
2 SD, 2 MSD, 4 tinies (16cm) and then one 12cm anthro.

How do I stop?? ...what's that? Buy them friends? Are you sure that's the only way? Well... okay

The tinies are especially addicting.

 

I'll have to estimate this My first doll was Soom Cuprit, so I officially joined the hobby in March 2008. Before she even got home, I purchased a Pipos Cheshire. I bought a Chrom head (and his fantasy parts), a Cass head (and her fantasy parts), Yrie's fantasy parts, a grey Galena, two Ai heads (plus one set of Ai hooves), a Brown Tan Chalco. I think I also got my Amber head and Heliot hooves during this time period.

So that would be 4 full dolls (three large, one tiny), 5 heads (three large, two tiny) and 5 sets of fantasy parts (three complete, two partial).

Phew! My first year was definitely my most active!

Nope, I consider it better to spend money on LE resin which will only get harder to find as time passes, rather than limiting myself to 'completing' dolls first. I have temporary eyes and wigs, so I can enjoy my dolls as I save up to buy them their 'own' parts.

April 27 will mark my first year of owning dolls, and in that time I have bought four, and received one in a contest, making my total five in the first year. It wasn't so much not being content with my first doll, as it was that I really fell in love with them and found reasons to have more


Did you finish your first doll before buying more?

Technically, yes. All my dolls have wigs, eyes, shoes, and clothes before I will purchase a new doll. However, I always seem to be finding new things for each one, they change along with my taste, so I don't know if I can truly call any of them "finished" (which is an idea I'm not especially fond of anyway)

 

I bought 3 doll in the first year i got into this hobby, and they all boy! i cant tell why but it did happen! now i have to think twice before i buy another doll~ ^ ^

I bought my first in March of 2012. Now I have, omg, Eight !!
All but two had previous owners...
I swear I am not "collecting" them!

 

I don't even remember how many. Too many I guess x)
But now I've only got two tho :P

 

i bought 3 even though i had only planned for one >_<....this year i've decided i will only buy the ones i currently have on lay away, i need to save up money just in case soom comes up with another MG/ID free choice event to get that york i need and possibly fantasy phonolus. every one else must wait until 2014 lol

 

I have to say, I had dollie fever and ended up with about 8 bodies an a bunch of floating heads!
I passed my first year mark back in February, I really need to downsize now!

 

I started collecting last summer. I want to say I am good with spending, but I am not. I have four now. I have not gone for any doll that is super "Pricey", which makes me feel better about the number of them I have for my first year. I love the big SD girls, but I cannot justify getting one for space reasons. To me, MSD size is perfect.

My first was a Zuzu Delf I bought second hand. She is still my favorite too. I adore how tiny she is. When I bought her, her previous owner was incredible, she was a limited and I got all her original clothes and wig. Then I got a great Wa-loli dress too. Seriously, she has only wone her limited dress once and she is perfect.
