How Many Dolls Did You Buy Your First Year?

I have four full dolls with me, two more on order (one is off-topic, though), and two floating heads (one yoSD size and one MSD size). It has not even been six months since my first doll arrived. There are lots more that I really want, but I may need to slow down my doll buying because I have other expenses coming up.

 

I bought 3 so far and I have until November for my 1 year mark. My boyfriend plans on getting me one and I plan on getting one in October. Does layaway count? I put a FL MNF on layaway at the beginning of September but I won't pay him off until December. If he doesn't count then I'll most likely only have 4 that I bought and 1 that my boyfriend bought me.

 

'Just' the one. And then the next year another two and sold the first two I brought home.

I must say that I've been kind of lucky in my purchases. Except for those first two, I've only bought dolls I loved the moment they arrived.

 

I purchased 5 BJDs my first year in the bjd hobby. Gawd, I was obsessed! Of those original five dolls, I still have two of the original group.

 

It depends upon how you define "buy" actually. My first MSD bodies were presents from a family member, though I picked them out. So was one of my SD Miro dolls. I did have to buy both heads for my Miro MSD's but I bought them on sale. I bought an SD head, a Magical Angel Kelly boy though he wasn't expensive at all because he had a chip on the back of his head that I had to fix. I also bought a used RS vampire and traded for a used RS Ju. I also bought a used blue Miro SD doll and I'm now in the middle of a lay-a-way for a used Minifee body for Kelly. All together that's 7 dolls since April, but only 3 were new and they were Miro dolls bought on sale. I don't actually have a huge amount of money tied up in them though it's much more than I'd usually spend on other kinds of dolls in the same time period.

I'm definitely going to get a RS Dai next year and maybe down the road a Souldoll Elden if I can find one I can afford because I kind of have a bit of a thing going for him but I doubt that I will probably buy much more after that. 7-10 dolls is enough for me I think. It will probably depend though on Miro. If they come out with other sculpts next year I just might be tempted into getting a rich purple doll if I can get them to make me one. :P (They might. They did my green after all.) As it stands I have the only two girl sculpts I really like so far. They'd have to release new faces I like to get me to go there but I would not mind a nice rich purple to go with my Avatar blue and my lovely bright green. Maybe a boy actually, a BF for Aira, my blue Wind. But the boy sculpts that they have now they just don't tempt me.

No way around it I did go into collecting BJD's with a vengeance but that's normal for me. I go a little crazy when I first start collecting a new doll till I get a set of them I like and consider pretty complete. Once I do though the collecting slows down to a crawl and I just start making things for them instead of buying new ones all the time. With BJD's I really can't get that much more ambitious. Even the cheaper ones are too expensive for me to have many more than I do now. The shelf I keep them on is almost full. When it is I will stop most likely. I don't have much room for more anyway.

 

If I count my Off Topic doll tomorrow would be one year... but I don't count her ... But she was sort of my jump off doll to get me back into things after mom died... Technically I bought an "outfit" first and was looking for a doll to wear it... when I found the LE doll it had been meant for... the doll had come out a year before the outfit O_o and the dealer still has some of the LE dolls left! I jumped in both feet because he embodies a genre in general that I love ^^. That was in February... and I 'have' been shopping since! LOL

How many dolls did you purchase in your first year of collecting? Did you stay content with your first doll for a while, did you immediately start buying more, or do you still just have your one doll?
Content? With him as he was yes, very much... but I knew he would eventually be one of a hoard ><. Having got back into DoA I was slayed by one members doll she had in her signature... one message was all it took for me to fall desperately in love with the dolls company (Iplehouse) Sadly poor Dexter/Arvid is still waiting . By April I had a pair of girls to hang out with my first boy ^^. A special event had me picking up a spare body for my ... Dexter/Arvid. I have another girl picked out but snagged a spare of her head mold off the marketplace ^^. I also lucked out and found the giant centaur I wanted ! He is on layaway from the marketplace and should be home by my one year anniversary lol. I plan on having my Dexter/Arvid home by then too.... soooo grand total (projected for the year) - 5 plus a head and body...

Similarly, Did you finish your first doll before buying more? Since my first was fullset ... yes lol... but his is the scary wardrobe now lol.... I do so love Souldolls pirate type wear . What has changed is my overall 'wish' list... What I like seems to be expanding lol... Soul Doll only happened to be the company with a doll with the right 'image' at the right time for me ^^. IH is my fave tho. I didn't take long to pick out my girls to bring home though ^^, just a couple of months.

I was just getting into bjds at the time and my tastes have changed drastically. I was content with the four of them for a very long time, but then I got into buying floating heads, ahaha, bad idea. orz'
My first doll was a fullset, so he was complete when I got him.

 

I got my first doll on Valentines day this year and right now she's still alone however, I have a doll I'm waiting impatiently to arrive and will be ordering some more dolls next month. So all in all I could have anything up to seven or eight dolls by the time February rolls around.

 

I have bought 4 dolls in my first year, but it was still not enough for me ^^'

 

I have been collecting bjd's for 2 years this April.
In my first year I went a little crazy for Pongs & Pikis.
I and ended up with 8 and 4 Iplehouse EID's.
in the following year I have been really good and only bought 10 dolls so far.
I feel like I'm at dollohollics anonymous!

and I thought I'd been reserved in buying this year!
Also I too only have boys!

 

This year I will receive my first six Bjds at home , and I'm planning for next year too ^^ !

 

..... Like seven? I am still getting dolls now, and it is still kind of my first year. The year for me will end in December when I first got my first doll. Oh, and I just got a shipping notice for two more dolls, they are pet dolls. So that would make nine dolls?

 

well... after browsing the thread a bit more I feel much better ^^. It would seem 4-8 dolls is more common than I would have imagined! Only one ore 2 is much more uncommon for a first year total. And many of you who have the highest numbers also are buying 'smaller' dolls (therefore you can get more than someone paying double/triple for a single doll :P) As for me I am sort of in the middle right now... so the rest of ya.... don't feel so bad as the count goes up! You are definitely not alone in this lol.

Two. A Real Missing Link head with a Volks DD body for it to go on, and a Dollshe Hound. The RML/DD was adorable, but she was too small to be Chulyen's girlfriend. My sister took a shine to her pretty much right away. They both still live with me, and I can't see either of them going away any time soon.

I'm conservative with my doll purchasing. I tend to get maybe one or two dolls a year at best, so finishing them off is no problem. I feel like I bond more when I can concentrate on a few at a time, polishing and crafting their image and character. They evolve over time, of course, so what was "perfect" last year might not be this year. But that part is fun, too.

 

This is my first year collecting and so far I have 8, I am awaiting for two more to arrive and a head with no body x-x and I still want to get a couple more but I dont think it will happen this year. I love more my second doll that my first one. I wasnt thinking to much when I purchased them. I guess I just went BJD crazy.

 

I only ever bought one--Leokitsune's RML/DD. *points upthread* I've had her for 7 or 8 years now. She may wind up being my only doll, but I'm okay with that.

How many dolls did you purchase in your first year of collecting? Two full dolls and one head. I was content with my first doll, but when I saw the re-release of Elfdoll Catsy, I wanted to get her as well ... sort of as a companion for my first doll.

Did you finish your first doll before buying more? Yes and no. She had eyes and clothing and a wig before I ordered my second doll, but she evolved into a TOTALLY different character in the end.

 

I bought four dolls on my first year in the hobby. I still have all of them though I'm thinking of selling one because I don't play with him as much as I used to anymore.
