1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How Many Dolls Did You Buy Your First Year?

Aug 21, 2011

    1. I have 4 & 1 head in the first year....(I wasnt mean to be that much.....)
My 1st one is from DOD, when ordered 1 month, I am thinking that he should be bored & ordered another one from DOD again. (Sigh)
Afterwards, I've heard the news of the new model from Elfdoll & addicted (3rd). There first 3 of them are done within 3 month.....
Then, half a year later, Volks got another new model & addicted (4th). Finally the head (5th) is sweep from JP Auction.... (The price is too good~~~)
There are all happened in Year 2005. How crazy of me....
Believe me, I'm intended to have 2 dolls at the very beginning.

    2. I bought 5 dolls during my first year. The second was bought 3 months after the first one - she was a rare find on the MP, so I just couldn't let her go. The third one arrived by Christmas, and then there were two dolls ordered almost simultaneously somewhere in March (my first doll was bought in May).
Out of the five, three remain now. One was sold because my tastes have changed quite a bit and the moment I needed money, she had to go. The other one I really wanted for a very long time, but when I unpacked the box, something just broke within me and I just couldn't enjoy her anymore (possibly an almost 6 months wait for a doll that isn't even limited had something to do with it).
All the remaining dolls have received a full treatment and I consider them "complete". Occasionally, I still buy clothes and shoes for them, and change their face-ups should those become damaged. But that's about it.
I haven't bought a single doll for almost a year - there are some companies that still interest me, but the initial desire to "get this doll and that doll and the one over there" is definitely gone now.

    3. I've been in the hobby for around 10 months now and have three dolls. I dare say I might end up with one more before my one year anniversary.

I didn't finish the first before the second came along, nor finish the first or second before the third came along. I sort of bought them all fairly close together and have been working on them ever since. I'm only now coming close to finishing them.

    4. Looking back over my years in the hobby, I've noticed that I started out averaging about two dolls a year. I bought my very first one around mid-year, and then got my second one in December of that same year. Over time, I've backed off a tiny bit. Somehow I still manage to average two new resin heads a year, but now it's more a case of "sell x doll and buy z doll to replace it." I guess you could say that my hobby is a self-sustaining one!

Generally speaking, I like to have all of the necessary items (eyes, wigs, clothes) to make the doll properly reflect it's character before I move on to the next one. Most of my dolls are based on pre-existing characters, so it's fairly important to me. :)

    5. I only bought one! But I also wasn't a member of DoA when I got my first and there were only like 3 companies or so that were available internationally. Although there was e-bay!! I also had dial-up so browsing dolls wasn't easy.

    6. I'd say...8

    7. I became interested in ABJD last 2010 year, but it took me a long time to buy the first one. I bought one in February 2011. After a month of waiting I ordered the second one. They both are MSD format. Now I'm on my way to order the third one. And it is SD. I also have two little BJDs Hujoo Baby Suve and Resinsoul Yu. I'm not not sure if they can be considered as a serious BJD dolls, but they are so cute.

    8. For my first year I only bought one doll. >.< I would of bought more but lack of funds back then.

    9. How many dolls did you purchase in your first year of collecting?
Counting by a full year, i bought and paid for 10 full dolls. 9 brand new SD size dolls and 1 second-hand yo-sd. But out of the 10 dolls, only 9 arrived (the last one being dollshe saint with nowhere in sight). I think this is what is termed as the beginners' trend where the buying curve is very steep. Now into my second year, i have bought more dolls but im still at 10 SD dolls (dollshe is still not here yet!) cos i have sold a few of them in the past year. Im more certain of the type of dolls i want and hence, buying new dolls have slowed and i will like to keep within a number that i can manage.

Did you finish your first doll before buying more?
Yes if u defined finished as complete head and body with faceups. I do send them out for repaints but i guess they are considered as finished. :)

    10. I think i bought 4 dolls in my first year. One was an msd, two were SD sized and one puki. I started the hobby in 2007 and now have a total of 10 full dolls and 3 heads. It's been over a year and a half now I think since I last bought a doll. Doing good in resisting impulse buys .

    11. I bought my first two (one off topic and Iplehouse's Tatiana) almost simultaneously because I couldn't decide between them. Then I got Iplehouse's Tania about 6months later. The about 6 months after that I ordered a fourth doll, but didn't get her for 6 months so I bought my 5th before I relieved the 4th. At this point I'm still waiting for the head for 4th and thinking about getting a tiny as my 6th.

    12. I bought 5 and a head. My first was bought fully finished.

    13. How many dolls did you purchase in your first year of collecting? Did you stay content with your first doll for a while, did you immediately start buying more, or do you still just have your one doll?
I bought two in my first year. I had always planned to have two girls originally. They were 8 months apart.

Similarly, Did you finish your first doll before buying more?
Yes, she was finished by the time my second got here. I wouldn't start on a new one before the old one was finished. It takes up far too much work in my brain. ;)

    14. So far I've only gotten one, but that may be because I don't have a job right now. ._. I don't see myself ever getting more than 2-3 dolls a year though.

    15. Oh hey, October '11 will mark one year for me also, but the doll arrived on Christmas 2010.
Coming up on my 1 year anniversary, I am just finishing up on my second doll. I have a one doll per year limit. I didn't immediately start buying more, but I decided my 2011 doll would be a frankendolly project to put together a bit at a time.

My first doll came with a faceup and eyes, and a wig. And I had already made clothes for her during the waiting period.

    16. Well this is my first year of collecting these dolls and I already have 2 SD dolls (Souldoll Agnetha full set and Dolkot Bera) 2 MSD dolls (Luts KD Ani and Planetdoll Roseanne) and 2 Yo-sd dolls ( 2 littlefee custom Ante's white skin & normal skin) These dolls are just amazing to me, I want them all! I think I will have to wait until next year for my Minifee Rheia :)

    17. I bought or I got two full dolls and one a head. They were my Christmas presents. I bought the head my own money.

    18. Oh my word you too?! :D I got into the hobby not too long after my Birthday in October of 2010 ^_^. It was rough year but certainly worth it. I had already bought 5 dolls in my first year but sadly 2 out of the 5 got sold since I'm not sure if I like tiny dolls or not. I would say I was content with my first doll for a while but figured she needed a friend to be with her while I was away at work. So I bought a YOSD about a month later.
My first doll, I will have to say is not 100% complete :'(. I still haven't gotten her original outfit or wings. I did get her wig but at this time it needs to be replaced or something XD and her dark blue eyes are TOO dark and almost look black so definitely need to be replaced as well. My 2nd girl is pretty much complete just need to buy more clothes for her :0. My 3rd girl coming along slowly and I would say is half way complete ^_^. Thanks for bring up this topic! :D It's interesting!

    19. How many dolls did you purchase in your first year of collecting?
Come December I'll have had my first doll for 2 years. In the first year I bought all the dolls that I currently own which stunningly are 11 dolls. In my defense (apart from having no self-control - wait, that's not a valid defense! ^^) I bought lots of them on 50% off sales and hybridized two which saved me a lot of money. All my dolls are either minis or tinies, so that accounts for the number as well.

Similarly, Did you finish your first doll before buying more?
My first doll came with eyes, wig and a face-up so she was what you'd call complete. However, I've realized that a doll is never really "finished". There's always something that one of them seems to need. New fancy eyes, a new face-up, more clothes... Even though I didn't buy a single doll during the last year, I spent a lot of money on them.
