How Many Dolls Did You Buy Your First Year?

Aug 21, 2011

    1. Hi, I;m on my eight month of loving BJDs and I currently have 4 1/3 dolls, 1 1/3 that I have sold and 1 1/4 on it's way. I plan to get the next one January of 2012 :) It's so addicting! I closed my bank account just to buy dolls

    2. I bought 3 my first year and ended up selling two of them when I decided to focus on SD size. Nearing the end of my second year I have 8 and wouldn't part with any of them. I'm not buying dolls at the moment and focusing on "finishing" the ones I have. Some need better eyes or wigs or shoes or a new faceup. I have stacks of fabric with plans for more outfits.

    3. I got three during my first year LOL At first I do honestly think I'll be fine with just one... but then after 7 months... I placed another order for my second and third Orz

I bought my first with set of clothes, wig and default faceup, and the company sent me a random pair of eyes as part of the included package^_^ so yea... I kind of have it finished before I bought more for him!
because I was quite inexperienced with BJD, so I think it's better to get them all paid and done by the company for my first LOL

    4. It's been about six months since my one year, and I still happily only have my first doll. :]
I think the reason I can't get bored with Rowen is because she is not based on any preconceived character. I came up with her story later, and it's still evolving and growing. As a result I can always change whatever I want about her without worry of staying true to a character. So, technically, she'll never be finished! Which I find a fun idea.

However I think eventually I might get one more doll...I've always wanted a DZ Floy. <3 But I doubt I'll get anymore than that. One, of course, is the expense and another is the time. I hardly have enough time for little Rowen now! It would be impossible for me to keep up with more than two. XD

    5. I remember when i was a uni student, which is around five years ago, i purchased my first doll (Volks DP13 SD Liz) from yahoo japan auction.
And then in the same year in December i purchased my second doll (SD Michelle) from yahoo japan again.
So, together in the first year of collection I purchased two dolls, up until now I still have them. And im not plan to sell them in the future. :)

    6. My first year I bought just two dolls, primarily because I like to take the time and save up so that I can get things like clothes, a wig and eyes with them if I don't already have anything on hand. As far as "finished" - well, I have three that are presentable. :XD: *ignores the half-made wig and the empty-eyed, blank heads on the shelf* That said, I think 2012 is going to be the year I finally do something with the poor sods that I haven't so much glanced at for several months, since I think I'm about "done" with dolls I must have for the moment.

    7. I have one on order, will be putting 2 more on layaway next week & getting another. I might order a 5th before Christmas.
I've been waiting & planning for a while now, tho. Always better to thoroughly research first, I feel. :D

    8. My first was in September 2010. Then I ordered two in December. Then came another in April. Sold one in July. Bought two this past August. However, I only have 3 at home because the others are still in production.

    9. I can say I most likely bought at 100 dolls my first year. I also sold those 100 to buy more. I didn't by my first blank doll until I found Dollstown as by then found someone who would do face ups and such and they were fine with removing factory ones. My first long term doll has so far only been one. I have had some last as long as 6 months but he has been with me over 3 years so he was one of my first DT kids. I do hope I have finally figured out what I want in collection and hope more and more stay longer.

    10. How many dolls did you purchase in your first year of collecting? Only one.:sweat I didn't buy my second until nearly three years later.

Did you finish your first doll before buying more? No, she's still not finished due to my horrendous faceup skills. :c

    11. I actually ended up buying all four of my girls my first year. I didn't plan on doing it that way (I was only going to get one!), but...it just worked out that way.

Each of my dolls were "finished", so to speak, before the next one arrived.

    12. How many dolls did you purchase in your first year of collecting?

I only bought one doll but ended up with two by the end of the year as my partner decided to get me a second one as a present.

Did you finish your first doll before buying more?

Nope, the majority of my guys still need finishing, to be honest I'm only really satisfied with about three of them and the rest still need work. I've now learned from experience to focus on them one at a time, in the past I would worry and try to get them done as quickly as possible rather than focusing on how I want each of them to be in the end

    13. Well, my first year as a BJDer is drawing to a close, and I have two dolls at home plus a floating head, two dolls on the way, and one that I'm pretty sure I'm getting for Christmas from my boyfriend. :)

I'm pretty certain I won't be buying anymore this year, because it's going to take me a while to save up.

So far, yes I have finished each doll before buying a new one, because I know that I'll get distracted by "NEW DOLLEH!!11" and I'll get confused if I don't finish them in order lol

So in conclusion: My first year will result in five dolls and one floating head :D

    14. I just passed my one year mark on collecting. :) (1/6 Obistus aside - none of which I still have)... and in this year, I have bought... eleven. Two were sold to be re-shelled, one sold to a friend, and one the plans fell through and the day I got her, she went up in the MP. Along with those, I have one on layaway. And two floating heads. And another head on layaway. Currently. And about seven or eight more planned.

    15. I bought 2 dolls in my first year in the hobby x3
My first doll in April 2009 and the second in October 2009!

    16. I'm new to the hobby (two months or so) and I have bougth 3 BJD's and 2 heads!!!! One is at home, but I'm waiting the other ones for December, and January maybe.

      I'm crazy, I know... LOL

    17. I bought two dolls in my first year of collecting, they were bought six months apart from each other. My first doll was 'finished' technically. He was a full set, though is still evolving from it even to this day.

    18. I had my first doll for nearly a year before I got my second doll.

First doll arrived July 11th of '08, second arrived July 2nd of '09. 8D

Then the third arrived August 17th of '09. The fourth arrived January 7th of '10. The fifth arrived May 27th '10... Sixth arrived the first week of June '10.

Then I got a floating head January... I think 18th of this year? XD And then I brought home my seventh the week before my birthday (Which makes for a third doll arrival in July! <3 Three years in a row I got dollies in July - I like that tradition!)... And I'm waiting on dolls 9 & 10. They should be around in the next couple months. 8D If all goes according to plan, I'll bring home 11 in the next couple weeks too. XD! But then I have to stop for at least a little while.... And bring home 12 in time for my birthday again I think! 8D

    19. In my first year of collecting I bought oh...four I believe. If heads count as well it would be 6.
-My beautiful Soul-kid <3 -A Resinsoul Ai that has since been rehomed -A MNF chloe -An AOD Yu Luo! -A Soulkid head (rehomed) -And a MNF lishe head
I think I know what I prefer now, and am hoping that I won't have to get any that I dislike in any way.
      But...you never know!

    20. It took me about a year to find the doll that really appealed to me. (looking at new and used dolls.). Then the day came. But even waiting it out a few days, I bought doll. It wasn't until another year later when I saw other dolls that soon caught my attention. In a span of about 4 years I aquired 5 more dolls to add to my first one. The dolls are very inspirational and can capture ones heart.
