How many of the same molds will you get?

Jul 6, 2011

    1. I like the creativity option of being able to experiment. I love to look through photography of all the BJDs out there to see how different they can look, through the imagination and skill of their people.

      :fangirl:

I have identical twins. And I have repeated some of my favorite heads. Currently I am on a head collecting focus. To be honest, if the price is exceptional, I would probably try almost any, and not mind duplicating what I already have.

I have Tiah as twins, one is still a floating head. I have Robel [DIM] as a twin, one still a floating head. I want to get bodies for them so I can photograph them together. A different body would be OK, as even identical twins can develop variation due to different habits. I'd like for the Robel boys to be like the Prince and the Pauper story in modern times. One a preppy guy, and the other with maybe dreds and tattoos.

I recently purchased 2 Dollmore elf Elly Banji with plans for a boy and a girl. I could see letting them be twins, or just the same species of elves. It will a lot of fun to play with options for them.

I have 2 of an off-topic doll and I love them. Candy and Cotton ~ :D
You can guess how I have them customized, maybe?

Two of Luts Nanuri event heads. I might attempt my first mod on one of them, and see where that leads.

I don't plan ahead so much as I follow the lead of what crosses my path, and how my muse ^^ might guide me once I'm in the creative zone. I do have plans and start out in a direction, but I like to be adventuresome. I have unoa Marion head with 2 faceplates, one the sleeping version. I would LOVE to have,,,

...all the faceplates I could get [cheap >_<] of her open eyes and customize her into many moods. Even the closed eyes could be showing
good or bad dreams with eyebrow and lip changes. I am a portrait artist, and new to bjd so I have that honey moon period insanity of total infatuation with everything, pretty much.
I want to paint 2 dimensional artwork of them, and this allows me to try them out in all sorts of lighting and poses for drawing them.

It is so much easier for me to draw them if I can have a 3-dimensional model to work from. They are very patient models, I'm sure.

So, when counting the wide eye or neutral face plus a sleeping or other type of variation counts, I love that. I bought Elfdoll elf Kathlen with 2 faceplates. With faceplates, all the better! In my wish list is the other Elfdoll elf with the same body, Hana. And I would like blanks of this head's face plates. But I don't pay as much for the duplicates like this, as I would a sculpt I don't have.

    2. I have three Hounds and one Husky, which is a very similar sculpt. Sometimes I feel that if I had all the money in the world, I would have all the Hounds in the world. Just one look at those faces fills me with irrational happiness, and my desire for them is as irrational. Every time I see a Hound on the MP, I want it, and the only thought that stops me from bidding is realization that other Hound-lovers need to have a chance at their dream too.

I think its fascinating that a work of sculpture can speak to one on such a profound level. It's always interesting to hear about that one sculpt you can't get enough of - everybody has different favorites.

    3. That is a great idea. Hand your imagination some wings and you soar.

    4. I've ended up with two Luts Regen, simply because I couldn't resist his LE version :aheartbea. I'm also tempted to get a second body for my Trond and perhaps even Borol, once he arrives, since they come with 2 heads. I doubt I could bring myself to ever get any sculpt more than twice unless there were some significant differences between them besides makeup. Although this is mainly because I'd run out of space, time, and money for that many XD

    5. I love to have both normal and sleeping versions of the same mold if they exist, but I don't consider that as having duplicates, because they're heads for the same character.

I love variety, so I thought it was a waste to duplicate molds, but now I want to have a pair of bluefairy olive twins, because I love that mold and as you all know, twins are super cute!! But I don't want them to be exactly the same, so they will be boy and girl and different colour-skinned, even if it makes no sense that boy and girl twins have the same face, since this only can be true if they have the same gender... But hey, they're dolls, they can be whatever I want :D

    6. Two at the max if I really like the sculpt. But as many as I can get hold of if it's a Hound. Sadly, I haven't even found one yet!

    7. I plan to have at least four Els. More if I can find characters for them. I love the mould and they're so versatile, they can portray almost any type of character or look!
I wouldn't want lots of identical dolls though- I can't see the point. I currently have 2 Els and they both look completely different.

    8. I had 4 Soom Beryl some time ago, then I got two Soom Vesuvia (pearl violet and ns painted to white), now I'm awaiting for two delf Lishe additionally to two minifee Lishe girls. But I'm too lazy for shooting them together ((

    9. Having double up of one sculpt isn't my style, unless it's a dreaming or sleeping head of some kind. I'm not one for identical twins either, as I prefer more diversity. But who knows; I might change my mind in the future?

    10. This thread is dangerous, as it got me to thinking. I now have a sixth Chiwoo head on the way.

    11. nope, not me. I really don't like having two of the same mold, even if we're talking bodies. i can only just get by having both Beyla heads, but at least one body has hooves, and one head has a horn. My collection is eclectic, I tend to have one of each type. I accidentally ended up with 2 SD boys, so one will have to go.

    12. 3, maybe 4 (or 5 but that would be really pushing it)
I love the VOLKS F-01 headmold and got one for my first BJD, my next will be her twin (FCS F-01 on suwarikko body in sunlight) and after that an F-01 YoSD
if I have some extra cash and room and find them for really good prices I'd love to have an SD13 and SD16 Megu too

*EDIT: I have 7 now and would like a few more F-01s (YoSD SwD Megu, SDM Megu and an F-03 YoSD and/or SDM if VOLKS ever decides to release them) so yeah, can never have too many of the same sculpt I guess.
I'm also clearly an F-01/Megu collector at this point so getting different sculpts is more the challenge for me

    13. I plan to get another F60 Chloe as a girl twin for my boy. But originally... I planned for a MNF Chloe and a LTF Chloe... I just love the sculpt ;A; I'm trying to limit myself to just two.... but who knows what my wallet and heart will decide in the future. XD;;

    14. I've got 7 Euclases... :sweat Here's the breakdown:
      1 x OE NS Euclase
2 x Bronze Euclase (1 modded to OE, one Meditation)
2 x Meditation GS Euclase (1 modded to OE)
2 x GS OE Euclase (1 blank, one with non-default faceup)

I still really want to get a GS OE Euclase with the Soom default faceup. And I would also buy more Euclases if Soom releases them in different skintones (cream white or blue please!). I also love my modded Euclases very much. :) His sculpt is so versatile since he has both a sleeping and an open-eyed head (and the sleeping head has EARS).

But then again, I know someone on this forum who has around 30 Euclases. *Joins the Crazy Euclase Lady club*

    15. KittyFields - You've got a nice set of Euclases. :)

I have to admit that my 15 dolls include a total of 9 Els. :blush

      1 tan El
      2 modded dreaming Els
      1 modded El
      1 Elf El '06
2 tan MNF Els (both the open and sleepy eye versions)
      1 MNF El
      1 modded El-SS

    16. After Pullips, I can't see myself ever owning two of the same, and certainlly not in the same size. I ended up selling all of my Pullips but one because I couldn't 'bond' with the same face over and over. It was like having twins, but they were all supposed to be different characters.
But then I got to thinking...if fairyland ever released their Luna in MSD(+) sizes... I guess you never know!

    17. I have 2 Delf OE Shiwoos, 2 Vampire Shiwoos, 2 OE El, 1 elf El, 2 Dreaming Els but one's modded to more opened eyed, 1 elf Yder, 1 OE Yder, 1 DES, 1 DHS, 1 Luwen, 1 dreaming Luwen, 1 OE CDF Cory, 1 Sleeping Cory, 1 Moon, 1 Elf Moon (Juri A), 1 LTF Shiwoo, 1 Multihead Shiwoo, 1 LTF elf Shiwoo, 1 PKF Shiwoo, 1 LTF elf El, 1 LTF El, 1 MNF Shiwoo, and 1 Chicline El.

    18. ^^;;; j-just one for me as plain and boring as it sounds. I do love some molds enough to get two, I'm sure, but I'm mostly content with customizing one of each sculpt I love. There are too many dolls I adore to stick to just one face to have multiple times of...

    19. I would never buy more than one of the same sculpt.
This is just because I can change the look of my doll whenever I feel like it with just a change of an outfit and wig.
No matter what style the doll has, I tend to prefer the same kind of faceup, so I don't feel the need to change the faceup.
Besides, there are too many beautiful dolls out there for me to waste on buying two of the same. :D
      Just a personal preference though.

    20. I'm updating my last answer from 2011 because now I have more even Shiros! ^^

Now, I technically have 3 each of Volks Isao and Shiro... for Isao, I have 2 of the SD13 version and one of the Yo-SD version, which is just a chibi version without cheekbones... and for Shiro, I have 2 of the SD13 version and one of the SD17 version, which is basically the same sculpt with a more grown-up jawline. Shiro is just my favorite face in dolldom. :aheartbea I also have two of DD-Anne Lotus Near, because I had to have twin imps. I also have two of Iplehouse Soo Ri, although I keep one of them with his Gentle head on so they look like cousins instead of twins.

Actually, NONE of those guys looks like anyone else in the house. They're all so totally different. Uniqueness is a non-issue. I love multiple sculpts and I love multiple bodies! Shelf space is my only constraint when it comes to collecting an army of anybody.
