Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. how many unfinished dolls at one time?

Jul 22, 2015

    1. I currently have 21 unfinished dolls, in various states of completion.
5 full dolls waiting on eyes and wig.
      floating heads:
3 with face-ups but undecided if they should stay or go.
      3 needing face-ups
1o with face-ups still trying to decide about body, eyes, and wig.

    2. I only have five dolls of nine that needs something done to them. As of right now, I am making pretty good progress; just dyed two of them, bought some string to re-string five of them, about to face-up two out of the five that needs it, and only one really needs seuding to the joints.

      @_@ Still a lot though.

Oh, and I just bought a DZ body so I can switch my heads around so everyone will have a body now (though I am eyeing some heads for future purchase xD).

So five, technically six incomplete dolls.

    3. Depends on what you call a finished doll (for me, I'll consider that this doll has a wig, eyes, make-up, body-blushing, and several clothes), but in my case I don't want to have more than one unfinished doll. Even if I have enough money I don't want to buy a new doll if the last one I have lack eyes or clothes (since I can do the rest myself and it doesn't take too much time and money). I don't bond with unfinished dolls, so I'd rather have only one "in progress".

    4. Depends? I never consider my dolls to be "complete" so to speak so they're all unfinished at every given time? u-u; I'd like them to have at least a pair of eyes and a wig in general though, and clothes to wear of course but those I can sew myself if they have nothing to their name.

    5. I don't like to consider my dolls "complete" because I'm always wanting to change something- it's rare to find that perfect hair/eye combo that looks the best on any given doll, so I'm constantly trying new eyes and wigs. It's a never ending cycle for me :( lol

    6. Only my floating heads are unfinished (no face ups, eyes, wigs) but my full dolls have to be finished within the first week of their arrival or else I get very uncomfortable. Right now all my dolls are completed, and never had more than 1 unfinished doll.

    7. All but one of my own dolls is in need of something. But I guess that's normal when you predominantly work on others most of the time. You end up spending less time on your own dolls. And serious kudos to those that CAN keep up with their own dolls too!

    8. I've been taking a break from my dolls, went on vacation, and now it is simply too hot to do anything. It's bothering me and at the same time, kind of comforting to know I can continue keeping myself busy for hours with my unfinished dolls... There's one I've unstrung and it will be a huge project for me to do the seams, faceup, and bodyblushing plus put him back together (poor guy)! Two unoa kits; one boy in need of hand blushing; a floating head. At least I managed to complete a hand blushing for my Or-Doll/Volks hybrid; just need to put the hands back on. I underestimated the care every single one of them needs. Good thing they are all patient and don't complain they have to wait every now and then for a couple of weeks, till I feel the creative itch again.

    9. I've got plenty of floating heads that have no face ups yet. My main bugbear is my Venitu. I choose the wrong resin colour for him and consequently I have difficulties in finding who he is. The face up, done by myself, isn't brilliant either as I am no face up artist and it would need lots of time spent on it. I love him but I would have preferred a milder and less moody sculpt. I have bought an Eloy head and I have been wondering if, ultimately, this new head will take over the body. It's unbelievable how the wrong resin colour can have an impact on a doll's original personality. The oriental colour has now lost most of its red pigment, making it paler than a Fairyland NS colour and it has led to a change of wig style and colour among other things. He will need a lot of work before I can find who he is. Thanksfully his body will never be headless.

    10. Two at once for me is the most I have had unfinished. I like to make sure they have a face up, wig, eyes, cloths and shoes before I consider them finished even though I may change something in the future. I have one now blank and another that needs a redo face up. I will not be doing anything else bjdwise until these are done.

    11. Depends on your definition of "incomplete".

For me a complete doll has a body, a faceup, eyes, wig, and at least one complete outfit with shoes if they need shoes.

In my incomplete pile I have two blank floating heads, a tiny doll, and an OT doll I was gifted for my birthday. So by my own standards, I currently have FOUR dolls that are incomplete right now. This however is not even counting two dolls that I eventually want to get around to blushing the fantasy parts of, or my girl on layaway that will have nothing but a body and faceup when she gets home.

    12. I don't think I want my dolls to be finished because I'd probably lose interest. I do like them to have eyes and clothes and a wig but I consider them all ongoing works. I'm still a novice at faceups so I would like for one to finish one that I liked enough that I'd want to keep it. For me it's not the destination, it's the journey and while there's some stops on the way, I'd like to just keep going.

    13. I had just gotten back into the hobby this year and somehow managed to make up for the missed years of collecting (so it feels like). just put base coat down on about half my floating heads and 2 dolls. goal is to base coat 2 more and design a body/shelf for the heads this weekend. it's easier for me to work in batches I think.

    14. I currently have 15 dolls and one is incomplete. My Largo has a faceup, but it is not suited for his character so I will need to have it redone at some point. My incoming doll is incomplete as well, but I'm hunting for an outfit currently and have a faceup artist in mind.

    15. My dolls are based on OCs, so to me they don't have a point where they are "finished"-- maybe "caught up to the current storyline" or something.

I try to do as much of my own designing and faceupping as I can, and I'm not very good, so I'm always in a constant state of trying to make them look "right"!

    16. Ahh... Four. Out of four. Tripp's face is done and her body mods are in the last stage but she needs blushing and spots on her body. X needs her helmet and buster finished and all the painting. Zero and Vile need... Lots. Tons of decently complicated modding, weapons and painting.

    17. All of mine are in need of something right now... I have eight right now with one more coming and another on layaway. Of those, five are off to the dolly spa getting faceups. They pretty much all need clothes, but since I like mine to be custom made for their characters, it takes time...

    18. I don't dont have any dolls yet. So I guess my checklist is...Get the doll lol!

    19. Some how i never quite grasped the concept of a "finished" doll.

    20. Almost all my dolls are unfinished, whether in terms of face ups or clothes or whatever. I've been in acquiring mode for about the last year and a half. At this point I'm mostly done there unless I happen to run across these Dollmore fashion BJD dolls I have a yen for at a price I can afford or some mature MSD heads I like better than the ones I have. A few of them are faced up but I have a ways to go with that. I don't view my dolls as something I have to have done by a certain date though. It's an ongoing thing for me. I'd rather take my time and do them right than not have them done the way I want. Right now the weather here is very hot and damp. It's not the best time to be sealing or painting things. I've worked on their clothes some but this is the worst time of the year for me in terms of hurting a lot and I don't do a lot craft-wise during the Summer...
