how many unfinished dolls at one time?

Jul 22, 2015

    1. I have 3 complete dolls and 3 doll heads in need of bodies right now :...( I was supposed to be saving up for bodies for my floaters, but I "accidentally" bought a new doll head instead :doh
4 of my dolls need faceups and everyone needs new wigs, eyes, and clothes. I'm struggling to find a body for my MDR Fang head in Dollshe Fresh right now, so it may be a while before that guy is finished :( I'm going to be ordering 2 F-Doll bodies soon (one NS, one NPS) so hopefully my collection so far is "finished" by the end of the year!

    2. It takes me forever to complete a doll so I have several who are in varying stages of "work in progress". For me a large part of the fun is the creative process of making the items and do the makeup. So for me it's not an issue that many of mine aren't anywhere close to being done because I know they will be compelted in time :)

And of course I do actually work on completing them ;). At the start of this year I had one doll who was completed whom I recently removed everything on to start over, give him an upgrade and make him look better. But now I have 4 dolls who have been completed this year (not counting the one I've decided to redo the makeup and everything for).

    3. I have 6 heads w/o bodies, & 3 dolls needing faceups LOL I also have 3 fantasy heads but they are just alternate heads so I wouldn't call them unfinished (except 2 of them need faceups) I also really need to restring my IH boys but I keep putting it off

    4. Out of the 10 dolls that I own, about three are almost completely complete... Sometimes, I don't know which direction to go or what I wanted to do with them is just impossible to find. It drives me crazy... especially when I add another to the collection lol

    5. My Nefer Kane Iracebeth has been here a year or two and I FINALLY gave her a face-up. I TRY to get them done ASAP. I hate having blank dolls around because I feel like I can't take pictures of them. I would much rather NOT have to do the face-up myself though. But I end up doing them anyway because money. But face-ups and stringing are my least favorite things. I just want to play with them out of the box!

Right now I don't have any one that needs a face-up thankfully. But I'm sure that will change soon enough...

I have 2 floating heads (and that one Bygg head that came with my Bygg that always swear I'm going to do something with and then never do). BUT the floating heads I have have been floating for like 5 years... they are IoS head, Mezz and Asyd that I bought the last time they were re-released from IoS!! Sadly I want really expensive bodies for them... But I should break down and get them cheapies.

    6. All of my dolls are unfinished save for one.
I just can't seem to find a proper style for them. :(

    7. As Fawne, nearly all of my dolls are unfinished. Save three. (I own 35 dolls :XD:)

    8. Since I don't buy my dolls based on pre-existing characters, my dolls are prone to change at any time so I kind of feel like they're all continuous works of progress.

But! Based on what I currently want, I have 4 that I want to do new faceups for. But pretty much all of them need some minor things done; some body blushing or maybe tattoos, different eyes and of course clothes. I think... I can say everyone has their proper wig now. Finally. (except my DDs, they're chameleons and wear whatever they want)

I'm desperately in need of more clothes, mostly because I need to figure out what style of clothing everyone wants to wear.

    9. Depends on what you call "complete". Most of my dolls are painted, and have wigs, shoes and clothes. Some of my dolls stand around in the same things year after year, while others get changed all the time. But those I consider all 'complete', even if they do get changed a lot.
But there are several that aren't complete.
      - I just got two blank new dolls that will need face ups and clothes.
      - one new msd needs sanding and body blush, and a costume
      - there's a bunch of small animals (5) that need costumes, and another arriving very soon
      - at least two older dolls need to get refreshed and get new face ups
      - at least 3 older msds still need special costumes

      So lots to do!

    10. Like a few people have said, I am one where I try and get a doll completed asap once their home. I usually already have all of their stuff before they arrive. I will do their faceup within a couple of weeks (usually sooner), or send them off to an artist within a couple of weeks. Now, even though they have everything from head to toe, I like to play with their style, so they might change a bit after their initial arrival. Like, I will think that a doll with certain wig might look even better in another wig, and that will change. Then I will change the eyes to match better with the new wig, and so on. I also am always changing their clothes because I like seeing different outfits on them, but not because I don't consider them complete.

    11. I finally got a day that wasn't crazy humid, so I jumped at the opportunity to seal all 5 of my heads for the first time. One of them I had to remove the spray completely due to all the lint specks, but I'm leaving her unfinished so I could try a different sealer than MSC. I'm very new to the bjd hobby, (only 6 months) and I don't have any experience with bjd faceups but I can't wait anymore to get my girls finished. I made clothes, wigs, and shoes for them, and 3 of them have bodies, and characters, I know I'm probably going too fast, but I'm sure I will bond with them more if I see them finished.

    12. I do not have any that need faceups at the moment, but a lot need clothes, shoes, new hair, a totally new look, or whatever. I am not sure a doll is ever finished for me either in most cases. There is always a new look I may try. Except for some of the large males that take sooooooooo long to dress. They have what they will have on forever.

    13. All of mine are incomplete/unfinished xD
I had two finished at one time, but I feel like redoing their personality, looks and style so right now everything's in pieces...

I would finish one at a time BUT I cannot stand the thought of ordering clothes/wigs/eyes/shoes for just one doll, and having to order again for the next and so on, always paying shipping and so on.
Now I try to get a general idea of what I want (it' easier when they are the same size and can share clothing, wigs and so on) for all of my current dolls and even for one I'm planning on getting soon, just so that I can order their things in one go instead of in little parts.

I'd like for my dolls to be finished with set eyes and character - things like hair style, hair color and clothing items can always be changed though, just like real people, so I'll never be done collecting..............

    14. I do not buy dolls with a certain character in mind. For me "complete" means - head, face up, eyes, body, at least one wig that fits, and some clothes. If they fit that criteria they are ready to display; but I do have ideas on clothes that I would like to make, and extra shoes, eyes, wigs etc. that I would like to buy. I really enjoy changing them, and so far I do not feel like I have to have a set look for any of them.

Currently I have 9 dolls on display, 3 floating heads and 1 head on order.

    15. I've been in a situation when almost all my dolls - 6 of 8 for that time - were "incomplete" for almost half a year, because of the change of tastes. I didn't want to sell them, and because the personalities for the dolls were in question I just stored the dolls, hoping to find some ideas. And I did! :dance
Now all the dolls I own are completed in my opinion, except the one expecting the new body to arrive - but I already have the proper clothes etc. for him to be dressed into, so it's a just a small wait for the body :)

    16. i agree with cmataki and consider dolls "complete" when they are faceupped have a wig, eyes and at least one set of clothes, basically if they can be displayed or photographed and look done. having the wrong wig or eyes temporarily doesn't bother me as long as the ones they are using are at least functional (in my case that means not bright pink, and unless it fits the character no animal or blind eyes) mostly what makes a doll incomplete for me is having the face wiped or only part done, having no wig or eyes, or being completely nude because i have nothing in the house that fits, not because i don't happen to have the right style yet or they are being used as a fit model. eyes, clothes and wigs are subject to change without notice anyway.

    17. I just celebrated my one year anniversary to getting in this hobby. At first I told myself I would complete a doll before getting another, because naked dolls bother me, but faceupless dolls bother me A LOT.

So I got my first doll and she came with a company faceup. Then I sold her and got another doll. Got a faceup for him soon after.

Then I became a revolving door owner in a desperate search of a crew I could call "solid". Going through pros and cons of companies, buying and selling and experiencing a lot. I'm allllmost settled on everyone now. I have I have 5 dolls and one floating head (soon to be 2) and only one of them has a faceup and one is getting one soon.

I actually JUST for the first time EVER completed an outfit for one of my boys and I FINALLY feel like I have a doll now. I'm so freaking happy. I love him soooooo much more as an actual doll. His wig and eyes are on order and I'm saving money for a faceup, but he will be done done soon and I could cry I'm so happy. I finally did it. Finally ;>_>

Any time I buy a doll I factor in the prices of everything else. No, this doll is not $400. He's like $550 if I want to do it right. Maybe more. So I bought all these expensive sculpts and now I have them all staring at me like "We know you just spent like 5 months of rent, but can we please not be naked aliens?" I'm sorry crew, I'm sorry Q_Q

    18. All of my dolls are unfinished. Then again I had a set amount of dolls I wanted and now all that's left to do is finish some face-ups, find some pair of eyes, two wigs and sew them all their own personal outfit. That's not so much work left, right? xD

Then again, are dolls ever finished??

    19. auntbear & cmataki - totally agree w/your ideas of complete. My dolls DO shell certain characters - but you know what? People change their outfits, hair styles & hair color ALL the TIME - so why in the world would I think I was 'changing' or 'reshelling' a doll because I changed outfits or wigs? Or even eyes? I've got tons of clothes I want to make, and a whole lot of cosplays that need finishing - but nearly ALL of my almost 40 dolls are COMPLETE - they are lounging about in wigs, eyes & clothing that their characters certainly would wear at one time or another.
Now, my Gintama cosplay is only half-done (ie I've only got 3 out of 12 costumes done); & several other group cosplays are planned w/o anything done yet (Bleach, really, I WILL do that, really). So massive sewing projects for me ahead - but the characters who COSPLAY are complete (for the most part - I DO have a few unfinished ie lacking faceups & some body parts) & sitting about in my (ok, THEIR) living room talking about how much their seamstress procrastinates (I presume LOL)

    20. Hmmm, as far as unfinished goes, it's mostly minor stuff. Everybody has their "default" eyes and wigs and everybody has a face-up as well as at least one outfit. I do, however, have 1 floating head that I may or may not get a body for (Dollshe Orijean bought on stock clearance sale after the sculpt was discontinued). Shae-Lin could be considered finished since he does have his eyes, wig(s) and tail but I'm not happy with the wig I made him and need to make him a new one out of the same coyote fur as his tail so they match. Gunari is the only doll that doesn't have any clothes but he's also a half-dragon and it's almost a shame to cover up his mods and blushing. And his pants will be a PITA to sew unless I don't mind having to take his feet off to get them on.

I do have a FL event arm that I need to silver and gold leaf (and possibly base dye grey) but I don't actually own the doll the arm is going to go on yet so I don't think that quite counts as unfinished since I haven't even bought the doll yet. I will be getting him with the default company face-up and his eyes are in my possession and I've ordered his wig.

I would like to add some "frost" to Khale's armour claw hands and if I trusted the steadiness of my hands, I'd put the scales on Jolen. But there always seems to be other, more pressing things that need my attention *sigh*.
