1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How much was your first doll?

Oct 4, 2016

    1. Over a decade ago, the first BJD I purchased was around $650, a Soom hooved girl whose name I have forgotten. She took 6 months to arrive. I sold her promptly. I don't like them when they take that long to arrive, and I learned that early on. The first BJD to arrive was $900 (also over a decade ago). He arrived within a couple of weeks (5 months before the first one I ordered) and I still adore him to this day.

    2. My first doll was a Ringdoll Lulu that I got as a Christmas gift from my mother direct from the company. The price was 658 I believe.

    3. Around $300. It was a Mystic Kids Francis SP. I got everything in his full set but his shoes.

    4. My first was just a head (a heavily modified Resinsoul Yao for 80), and I just recently bought a body from Resinsoul for about 120, so 200 total

    5. .....This is touchy for me, my first bjd was bought for me, by a family I no longer have contact with because......because. There were other things that happened at the time that add to the answer of price.

This person in 2011-2012 finally bought me a Volks sd13 girl that at the time was part of the official Volks Usa sites, standard line up. I am also sure that what this family member did in the aftermath is what contributed to my loathing of the model. As well of that particular doll. The doll was a model renewal Mimi on a sd13 girl body. I was not allowed to choose which doll I wanted. Because I had no access to earn my own money at the time. The doll's cost was at the end around $900ish. At least that is what I was told.
So, doll gets paid for. The doll was delivered on accident to the neighboring address and no signature was obtained as per requested. Said family member calls Volks and files for a return, that product was not received. They did not stop screaming until they were refunded the entire purchase price of the doll. A day or two later, neighbor gives said missing doll to said family member.
At the time of this entire debacle, I was taunted and berated for it. When said family member discovered that they had gotten over on the company and had essentially gotten the item for free, I hated the look on their face. They dropped the box in front of my feet and screamed in my face that such a thing would never happen again, never to ask them to entertain such a foolish thing again. That meant never speaking about it either. Even after I took the doll to my corner of the domicile, even after I checked she was unharmed. I couldn't look at her. She represented everything that was wrong. I quietly boxed her back up and kept her that way until the end of 2017 when I was realistically able to quietly buy a bjd myself, with my choice, and my income. Around that time I sold that Volks Mimi because I wanted someone to actually give her what I couldn't.

My first bjd cost both possibly $900ish and nothing, but more than anything that doll cost me my love for the hobby for years until I felt safe enough to try again.

I don't write this to garner sympathy. I write it to if anything, add to the collective experiences of those on this site.

    6. My first doll is a 'Mystic Kids - QingChen FOX - Full Set'. :kitty2
I've paid ca. 633,- USD (including shipping costs) and I'm still waiting for his arrival at my home. :chibi

    7. I forgot ^^U A minifee Lishe bought in 2007, probably around 400€ with make-up and shipping. And then clothes, new eyes, wigs...

    8. My first official bjd cost me almost $1200. I bought him with shoes and clothes, but the price of the doll alone was almost $1000 in any case. I lost my shirt on him too because I couldn't handle such a big doll and when I sold him I couldn't get close to what I paid. Someone else got a great deal.

    9. My first doll was a Dollmore Momo. Back then, dollmore kids were a bit cheaper than these days. I remember she was something like 150e+. For me that was huge amount of money. I had to convince my mother to buy it (I was underaged then and I didn't have my own bankcard). It took like almost a year to convince her and I was super nervous too, 'cause online shopping wasn't a thing back then ("What if this is a scam and you lose all your money!!" was a thought at those times. Especially if you bought from online shops that weren't in my own country).

    10. My doll was $300, not including shipping and other expenses:)

    11. Mine is second hand, but I bought her for a total of £250 (about $334)

    12. Mine was second hand, in pretty poor condition. About $100 on the doll itself and another ~$150 on maintenance, materials, etc.

    13. Mine was Secretdoll Person o4 and she was 225.00

    14. $375 doll chateau Clara, I don't have her anymore but she was so cute.

    15. $130 for my DC ant but depending on secondary markets I may have a different first doll!

That being said, regardless of who wins the race for true first the budget for the misc things I'll need to truly complete the doll (faceup supplies, eyes, ect) is another $150!

    16. Approximately $400 for my first BJD, a lady bee peakswood, with clothes, wig and make-up includes.

    17. Hey can I see some pictures of yui from aimerai I’m thinking of getting her should I

    18. The head was discontinued and I got it for 200$ from Dolkstation and his body was around 300$ new, It's sad because that same head is being sold for dirt cheap nowadays and I essentially sold that whole doll for the value of the body alone.

    19. They still sell it on bjd Alice collections the whole doll and a full set it’s 1/4

    20. Sorry what doll? My first doll was a migidoll Ryu head of a Dollfamily H body.
