1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How Old Are You (continued... 2)

Feb 16, 2018

    1. I love reading everyone's experiences, I wish I had been more confident at 26 when I bought my first BJD. I felt so embarrassed for being 26 and having a doll (even though I had also amassed and sold off a large Monster High collection at the time??? Maybe because they were "trendy" then I wasn't embarrassed about those). Now I'm 37 and getting back into the hobby! I love dolls and toys of all kinds but BJD are really special and captivate me.

    2. So many more people in their 20’s than I would have expected! And anyone who’s older…that’s so cool. Especially those of you in your 50’s and 60’s. I wanna be like you haha :)

I’m turning 25 this year. I saw a BJD at an anime convention as a young teenager, but didn’t really know what they were, and when I tried to figure it out I did NOT have much luck haha! I wasn’t very internet savvy then. I ran into DOA those years ago but didn’t know how to use it and getting into the hobby just seemed really intimidating and confusing. Not to mention price tags…until I got my own money, that was not happening (and I do not blame my parents for that at ALL. This is totally a luxury hobby and I really wouldn’t want them to buy me any).

14 year old me would’ve been so captivated to see the dolls I have now! ♥️At least I know she would be proud I’m still out here playing!

    3. About to turn 66 in October, and I work in a plumbing warehouse. Whenever the question of how I spend my free time comes up, I show people my Flicker, and they're like, "You made that!?" Which leads to at least 5 minutes of them showing me their projects. Everyone is a frustrated artist.
I even got to meet Brian Kaplan of the Mobile Makers Club. I would love to attend a meet-up of the "Makers" and Ball-Joint Doll Artists/collectors.

    4. I'll be 42 in a week (It's the answer to life, the universe and everything. I better know everything in a week or so!)

I first discovered BJDs about 20 years ago in my early 20's, though the way of Visual Kei J-rock and Alice in Nightmare. The doll that got me hooked was a AiN-modified Volks Mimi. I saved as many pictures of that doll as I could find vowing to myself that I am definitely going to get one for myself, one way or another. But my first BJD was bought in 2014 and it was a Blue Blood Doll Valentine. It wasn't because I was afraid to join the hobby or anything, it was because I was living from one rental place to another, from city to city. It wasn't until I had some stability that I was ready to bring one home.

Now, I am facing another move, but at least this is a place where I'll be staying for a long time. And when I do move in my own place (It's not much, but at least I can call it "mine"), I can finally display my dolls again. And actually work on the Mimi I finally bought so I can realise the dream I had when I was in my early 20's.

    5. 28 years old here. Bought my first doll when I was around 15 and didn't do much until now. My family's currently going through a lot of medical issues so bjds give me something to look forward to and think about other than hospitals and stuff.
Nice to see such a variety of ages in the hobby!

    7. I'm 28 right now, but I got my first bjd at about 21. :)

    8. 21! i've been collecting various types of dolls for years but i got my first bjd last year shortly after i turned 20 :3

    9. I‘m 22 and started collecting bjds in 2020. I first discovered them when i was like 15 on tumblr and they kept haunting me since then. I wanted one so bad and when i earned my own money i was finally able to get one :blush

    10. I will be 35 in August this year, when I got my first doll I was 18. I can not remember how I got into them though but its stayed with me, even when I took a step back to get other things in life in order I would find my self looking at doll sites :whee: I am so glad to be back.

    11. 21. Found out about bjd’s when i was 12 i believe, and recently acquired my first!

    12. I'm pleasantly surprised by the age spectrum here! I feel like everyone expects dolls to be a hobby for children, even though they are so expensive. I'm 25 myself and felt old, but now that I saw this thread maybe I'm not that old after all.

    13. I'm turning 27 in August; I've admired BJDs from afar for over 10 years but was too intimidated and/or not financially ready to commit to the hobby. I bought my first BJD last year, though. :love I hope to learn more about BJDs and the community moving forward!

    14. I'm 30, I love my bjd's. I got my first bjd when I was 16-ish. I fell out of it a few years ago when I had a falling out with my best friend who is also in the life. But now I'm slowly coming back because I missed the fun I had with my dolls.

    15. I’m 19, but got my first BJD in junior year of high school (so about 16). When I was finally able to make my own money I ended up using most of it on ordering a lot of dolls. I had been interested in the hobby since I was about 10 but never made enough money to save for an actual BJD.

    16. I'm in my 30s. I've been interested in BJDs, since I was 14-15, and rediscovered them recently. Luckily I have a job now with a steady income so I could afford.

    17. I’m 28, but in hobby since I was 15. I was very active and I bought most of my dolls at that time. Then I had a long break and now I’d like to come back again:))

    18. 35! I wasn't huge into dolls as a kid, but I did collect some. Then I gave them away only to rediscover my love of dolls last year/ (Typical story!). I started with OT fashion dolls, but then I saw bjds and art dolls and was hooked and my interests have been in that direction ever since.

    19. I am 31. I've always loved and collected dolls, but now that I have adult money, I can finally afford the hobby
