1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How old were you when you got into the doll hobby?

Jul 23, 2018

    1. I've been in love with dolls since I was thirteen or so, but I've only just now been able to purchase one. I'm twenty-five now. It'll be half a year until he gets here, which is a good opportunity to learn some of those skills I've admired for years!

    2. I was 16 or 17 when I first discovered them. Got my first bjd when I was 18 and I'm 30 now.

    3. I was 33-34 when I bought my first doll but I was interested in the hobby about 7 years before that. I'm more active now that I have dolls.

    4. I started this hobby about 2 years ago making me 26 before that I was collecting dolls from my childhood and favorite comic characters and reborns . Bjd are definitely my favorite though.

    5. I started to take an interest in BJDs when i was around probably 14-15 but i didn't realize they were BJDs or really any of the brands i just always liked dolls and thought they were so cool. I was remember being super into MH dolls and someone had turned a MH character theey had into an actual BJD doll and i was AMAZED by how big it was i didn't even know they made dolls that big!

It was more around the start of this year that i really got into them and learned more about them and actually started saving to get one!

    6. My mom used to collect dolls, so I’ve always had an interest, and she showed me bjds when I was around 11! But I only just got my first doll this year (I’m 17!)

    7. Found out about them when I was 15-16ish. Bought my first one at 20. :whee:

    8. I was 20 when I got interested in BJDs and bought my first doll.

    9. I officially got into BJDs late last year, when I was 24. I hated dolls when I was a kid, though... I only really got into them after I watched the Puppet Master series, so probably around 20-23?

I remember my little sister got really into BJDs around 8 years ago, and back then I just thought they were gross and saccharine. But that's probably mostly because she got a Volks Ken, who I still think is just the blandest thing ever (no offense). She has abandoned him now, and unfortunately he's just floating around the house unloved right now.

    10. I discovered BJDs at 19. I was 21 when I bought my first and I'm 30 now.

    11. I just joined so I’m 18 now XD

    12. I’ve been admiring bjds since I was 22, got my first at 23, and I’m turning 24 next week :blush

    13. i was like 15. i got into the hobby because i loved monster highs and i had lots of them. it took me like two years to get my first doll but ive been into this hobby for a while, and ive always been into dolls in general.

    14. I must have been about... 22 when I got interested in the BJD hobby, I can date it by the release of the first doll I seriously considered ordering which was Luts Woosoo in 2005, and I must have been lurking for at least a year before that.

    15. I think I was about 42 when I discovered BJD's. I wanted to sew clothes for something non-human but more cooperative than the cat. Classic porcelain childlike dolls creep me out a bit, and I didn't care for the aesthetics of American Girl dolls or dolls I saw in the toy section of stores. I was idly browsing eBay to see what else might be out there when I saw a BJD. She was so delicate and pretty! I'd never heard of them, and promptly started researching. I got my first one a few months later (directly from the manufacturer, not from eBay!).

    16. I started back in 2013 when I was around 16, still in high school and all. There are so many people out there that start wayyyyy early which I think is pretty cool too.

    17. Hmm... well, I had Barbies as a kid. One of my aunts collected porcelain dolls that I thought were seriously creepy (too many eyes when you walked in the room). Several years back I read an article about Marina Bychkova of Enchanted Dolls and was fascinated by her skill. However, I didn't actually discover the magnitude of BJDs until last year, ordered my own early this year, then had the good fortune to run across a second hand Soul Doll (Certificate of Authenticity and everything) named Mayu. My squeaky new YeonSoo arrives tomorrow!

      Oh yeah, I'm 46.

      ;)

    18. i first discovered bjds in my early 20's, probably 23 or 24, that's when i started actively going to manga conventions & watching the bjd displays there. i bought my very first bjd, at the age of 29. now i'm 37 & i have 3 dolls.

    19. 16 and im still in my first year of this new hobby XD

    20. I learned about ball-jointed dolls when I was 15 and got serious about actually getting one when I was 24. I didn't get my first one until I was 28, though, so I'll say I've been active in the hobby for only about two and a half years.
